Good Morning Everyone,
Its a clear blue sky over Brackley this morning and looks like a warm day.
Anyway , my break in Harrogate , it was nice weekend overall .
But on Saturday on arrival at the hotel , I could not get my room immediately, due to my boking.com error as I had not confirmed the dates .
So I used my mobile and rang Gwenisgreat1 so we could meet up , she gave me directions to her house not far from the hotel , on finding it we introduced ourselves and had coffee with her husband and family dog .
I then went back to the hotel , got my room key, and went out to try and get something to eat , the first place a seafood restaurant, was fully booked , I did my pub crawl had a pizza in one but experienced track & Trace before retiring later .
The rail journey north with changes at Brum and Leeds , so following proceedings as to seating and social distancing .
Sunday , I caught the bus to Ripon had a look at the cathedral , spent an hour in the City , before bus back to Harrogate , again bus was sterilised before passengers could board it , as I got off it at Harrogate a cleaner came onto to deep clean before it went onto Leeds , I caught a bus to Knaresborough , which was busy gridlock on roads and streets , spent about an hour here but it was to touristy , returned to Harrogate , had a beer , then walked down to the mains street near Bettys, to see how it changed from when there last year , I slowly made my way back to the hotel , but by the Royal Hall /Concrescence centre I sat , I saw large liquid oxygen cylinders plus large ventilators outside as its now the Yorkshire Nightingale Hospital which sent out a clear message as to Covid 19 .
Returned yesterday home , today housework plus bus to Buckingham and Bicester .
Take care ,
Mick

Good morning Auntyflo and all x

Good morning from an overcast NE.
DH has already left for his first appointment of the day, second is at lunchtime. He has had next to no sleep, being up every hour during the night.
DS and GDs visited yesterday afternoon and we had a few hours in the garden, they brought my birthday present from May. DIL is so thoughtful, she buys the most wonderful gifts.
Family holiday to Harris is still set to go ahead.
I am still disgusted at the thought of Mr gillybob's suffering, it really is not good enough.
DH slipped off the radar during lockdown, letters from Oncologist never arrived (not sent) and treatment was delayed.

Marydoll Tue 04-Aug-20 09:02:05

Good morning all, it's pouring here in Glasgow.
A very gentle day for me.
DD has unexpectedly arrived to keep an eye on me and will work from home in our dining room.
I think she just wants to save electricity, have the heating on and eat our food! ?
Hope Mr Gillybob has a bearable day.
Wishing you all a pleasant day.

Puzzler61 Tue 04-Aug-20 09:06:49

Ahh it’s lovely that you’ll have your DD’s company today Marydoll,
Now, no biscuit or tablet making just because she’s there. Just sit with your feet up and have nice chats in between her work, please ??

Urmstongran Tue 04-Aug-20 09:07:30

Rest up Marydoll and get well soon. x

Susan56 Tue 04-Aug-20 09:08:24

Good morning from Shropshire.Well the sunshine lasted about an hour yesterday and it’s raining already today?‍♀️

Going to my mum’s today with DD1 and family then DGD coming back to stay for a few days.

I meant to say a couple of days ago,our baby grandson finally has an appointment to go into hospital for the tests he needs. We are relieved he will be having the tests but concerned at the same time.

So sorry and furious that Mr gilly is having to wait until tomorrow to have his catheter removed.

You have six months to initiate a complaint gilly. My DD got nowhere complaining to the department and in the end wrote an email to the Chief Executive of the health board which got an immediate response and action.

Marydoll, hope the treatment went well yesterday?

Dragonfly and Blue Sapphire, hope you are both feeling better?

Thinking of all with worries and illness?

Grammaretto Tue 04-Aug-20 09:11:14

Good morning Mick and all from the Scottish Borders where it is not only wet but feels like Autumn already.
Your Harrogate adventure sounded eventful and I am glad you had a change of scene. Mick

Awful to hear of Mr Gillybob's distress yet I doubt a complaint will make much difference. It sounds as though the hospital is stretched to the limits if nurses are turning on the patients. Good luck for tomorrow.

I think the return to normal function without the staff to match is proving impossible. Yes a letter to the MP might be read out in parliament.

Yoga on zoom this morning and maybe some housework later. I saw someone up a ladder at next door's and asked what the problem was. "We're just cleaning the windows" duh!
Have as best a day you can everyone.
Thinking of Marydoll, Dragonfly, Blue Sapphire, nortsat and all those in pain and struggling.

BladeAnnie Tue 04-Aug-20 09:11:50

Good morning all from an overcast mid-Notts. I have an appointment by telephone this afternoon but other than that no real plans for the day. I slept really well but still feel extraordinarily tired - that's just life sometimes though!! Gillybob please put in a formal complaint about how your hubby has been (or rather not been) treated - absolutely shameful. Hope everyone has the best day possible and please stay safe x

gillgran Tue 04-Aug-20 09:12:38

Good Morning to you all from another sunny, warm day in Cambs.,

Good to hear about your trip away, Mick.

Gillybob, thinking of you during this difficult time.
NHS can be very good, but, unfortunately you, (& some of us others), have experienced the inefficient side. no matter how much money is poured into it, it must be run efficiently.

Finally got my hair cut yesterday.

Our replacement guttering still not quite finished, we thought it would take 2 - 3 days, but they started last Wednesday....! hoping this isn't going to up the estimated cost by too much.

Take Care Folks

Nannytopsy Tue 04-Aug-20 09:23:21

Good morning mick and all his followers. Glad you had a good trip away Mick - when’s the next one?
Our blue sky has grown some light cloud in the last few minutes but still warm.
So sorry to hear about the Gillybobs problems. ?for tomorrow.
There are peas and beans to pick and more lettuce to sow, so I should get moving.
I hope the day is kind to everyone.

Grandmafrench Tue 04-Aug-20 09:28:22

Good Morning everyone. Well, you go to the top of the class for effort and motivation, Mick. The times we live in are certainly going to put the brakes on lots of plans and ideas, so really well done you, for getting up, getting out and getting on with a weekend in pastures new - and that you had all planned and organised. So pleased it worked out and you’ve had a much-needed and enjoyable change of scene.

Won’t it be simply fantastic when we can just do stuff - without too much thought and jumping through hoops for security arrangements again? This time last year we went off to the mountains. It was very hot and our area was packed with heat-seeking tourists, so we went off somewhere quiet ... and new. Wonderful. In the autumn, we went to Corsica for a few days, took the dogs, drove and walked through wild forests, stopped in the silence of a Sunday afternoon in a simple little roadside resto., where we were able to eat some wild boar ? and all home grown produce and watch the soaring ? birds and a stream rushing past close to where we sat. Just the thought of doing spontaneous things now is simply too much.....so we hang on, do our bit, take care, wash those masks, try to smile and hope we’ll all come out the other side unscathed. Fingers and toes firmly crossed!!

Yesterday! What a disgusting display of “customer care” you had to experience, gilly. People on this thread were not just sad for what your DH was put through, they were united in outrage at the dismissive way you were dealt with. You might as well have just dropped in off the street on the offchance, eh? When you go back tomorrow, do hope you will catch a glance at name badges, in the hope of identifying the creature who gave you the grief. No need for meaningful looks or any conversation if you do. Let them think you’ve forgotten all about it, so that once DH is safely through this, you can let those in authority know, with all the dates, times, names, detail etc., just what their wretched staff get up to whilst masquerading as belonging to a caring profession! Any help with the letters required....please know you only have to ask ??

puzzler - lots of heat and healing sunbeams being sent to the UK from here, should you have need. Brook and Grandmabatty, persistent rain and small children can certainly pose an indoor problem. We used to organise ‘camps’ - made by using tables and chairs and endless blankets, cushions, toys, etc., Maps were drawn to navigate foreign parts (upstairs). Sometimes laundry baskets were sailing boats and usually picnic food was brought to the tent. Lots of muddles and mayhem but it kept their imaginations running! Picnic and cuddles on the couch with a good children’s film could be arranged when they were running out of energy and often baking and cooking - especially involving salt dough figures and shapes to bake in the oven and take home to hang up! (Have a recipe if stuck). Some kids love housework too. Ours were magic with dusters and a vacuum cleaner. We never sent them up chimneys, but there’s a thought! ?. And when they’ve had a brilliant time and you sit in the wreckage wishing you had a magic wand to clear it all away - well your Very Best Gran badge will still be shining brightly, even if you’re not!!

Do hope that Tuesday goes well. Hope you are feeling stronger, Mary and Cherry and that you have less pain lovebeigecardigans. To anyone with problems, pain, sadness - sending you ???? and kind thoughts from ??Take care, keep safe. Hugs x

Nortsat Tue 04-Aug-20 09:40:06

Good morning Mick (glad your break away was so successful) and the GM team, from sunny east London.
Thank you everyone for your good wishes regarding my tests. All went smoothly and I am now waiting for the results. Hoping some adjustments to my meds will improve matters a bit.

Gosh Gilly, what a horrible time you both had yesterday. Your poor DH must be feeling really low, bless him. What disgraceful behaviour you received from the Sister.
It’s hard to keep swimming against the tide. ? for you both.

After my medical appointments, we walked to the nearby park and had coffee and a pastry, sitting in the sunshine. It was nice to be outside now that shielding has ended. It was our first time out for 21 weeks ☕️.
I'd like to treat my partner to a nice dinner out, to thank him for his kindness during our 21 week lockdown. I just don’t know whether I am confident enough to eat out yet?

Wishing Maryd a comfortable day. Thinking of Bluesapphire, Cherry and Dragonfly.
Have a good day all and ?to those who need them. ?

Nannatwiglet Tue 04-Aug-20 10:10:50

Good morning from West Yorkshire...grey & dull, but mustn’t complain after the last few days of sun&warmth.

Sorry to hear Gillybob has had such an ordeal with her DH at hospital. It is so unnecessary...and she must complain!

May I suggest finding out about PALS...the Patient Advice &Liaison support at the hospital concerned. The nhs.uk website has details about this confidential support and information service.

Good luck!-and hope Mr Gillybob gets better soon!

ann678tifney Tue 04-Aug-20 10:11:33

Morning from a very dull and damp NE. Sorry to hear about all your problems Gillybob, it seems to be never ending. My DH having problems with leg ulcers again, and had an appointment with the nurse to dress them this morning. Got there no appointment!!! after much discussion with the receptionist and saying I wasn't leaving until they dressed them, it turns out the receptionist who made the appointment put the wrong name on the nurses list ... I couldn't believe it, but at least we got seen, and now its twice weekly appointments for the next few weeks, thats if they can fit us in!!! Hopefully Gillybob your DH gets sorted out tomorrow fingers crossed and hopefully Marydoll you start to feel a bit better xx

Mapleleaf Tue 04-Aug-20 10:37:26

Good morning,

A rather grey, cool and drizzly morning today in South Yorkshire. It's supposed to start warming up from tomorrow afternoon, but I suppose time will tell.

So sorry to read that, yet again, that Mrgillybob is not receiving the care he should expect at the hospital, gilly. As other posters say, strongly worded letters to the Chief Executive of the NHS Trust that hospital is part of and also to your local MP are advised. It's simply not good enough that Covid is being used as an excuse for other areas of treatment to be neglected, particularly now that cases of Covid are not as severe as they were at the peak.

Hope you manage to have a restful day, marydoll and start to feel better very soon.

Mick your trip to Harrogate seems to have been a great success, despite the initial hiccup on arrival at the hotel. Glad you enjoyed yourself.

Well, I'm glad I got the grass cut yesterday, as the weather at the moment is not conducive to using electric appliances! Trouble is, with this rain and then the warmer weather to follow, it will just grow again! ?

Indoor jobs today and a trip to the supermarket later.

To all of our GM'ers unable to post at the moment, I do hope you are still reading the thread and that today is a better one for you. ?

EllanVannin Tue 04-Aug-20 11:00:37

Good Morning All x
Dull miserable and rainy, whether it'll pick up later like it did yesterday I'll wait and see.

A visit to the butcher later to see what I can be tempted with for the next couple of days. Stir-fry is what I've been fancying, so steak or chicken---or both for a change.

I'd like to go to Asda, but don't feel confident enough at the moment as it would mean getting a taxi and I wouldn't like to be seen spraying the inside of it grin and wiping everywhere. Perhaps if the weather bucked up then I'd wear less and be able to wash clothes on my return, as germs live on clothing. What am I like ? I'm not ready for " outings ".

Glad that Mick managed to go to Ripon cathedral, so beautiful and how nice to meet a gransnetter too.

I don't envisage doing much today but will phone D to see how things are with her flock and to find out how their day out went last week.

Thoughts to those not feeling too clever as well as disgust shown to those who are supposed to care for MrGillybob.
Things don't seem to have changed much as I locked horns with staff back in 1994 over a similar matter with late H.

Have a good day everyone and remain safe.xx

Gwenisgreat1 Tue 04-Aug-20 11:08:57

Good Morning all from drab, wet Harrogate

Think you had the best wether, Mick. I was nice to meet you. Glad you enjoyed your trip to Ripon. When I first lived in Harrogate, I was going to work in Ripon, so psyched myself up for the drive to the city. I laughed all the way there - the busy traffic was coming to Harrogate!! Nevertheless, Ripon is a delightful City (if a bit small). The cathedral, I believe, has a display of paper angels - hope to get to see them soon.

Georgesgran Tue 04-Aug-20 11:13:45

Good morning from a very wet, miserable Durham. I’ve given in and put the heating on!!

Still annoyed about Gilly’s treatment yesterday - slightly concerned my DH’s due at the Urology Dept, possibly in the same hospital on Monday!

Got to say the Cancer Care Unit there has been exemplary - chemo weekly and nothing cancelled or delayed. Only hiccup was DH very poorly one day and I couldn’t get an ambulance. Solved it by meeting DD2 there and borrowed her wheelchair to get him in for the appointment. Where there’s a will?

Hope everyone has the best day they can. X

Taichinan Tue 04-Aug-20 11:23:12

Good morning everyone! And welcome back to Michael after your travels. I wish I had half of your get-up-and-go! Puzzler no. We have had a lovely sunny few days here on the Angus coast, but today the rain is taking over in earnest. Shame really as I had been going to have a garden reunion with my Great Niece and her family who have just returned from LA where they spend most of the year. Never mind, another day. Today is Hair Day! I will be so glad to have slightly shorter hair again because this whispy white stuff tickles my neck!! Today is also exam results day in Scotland, and my poor GD1 is very disappointed. I think she is going to be one of those people who don't blossom until later in life. Both my DSs were like that, and both have done well, with DS2 having picked up a first class honours degree with part-time study along the way! (If his old school teachers knew they would be speechless!). Anyway, off I go to the hairdresser's. Happy days to everyone, and lots of ? to those who are poorly and in pain. ?

Grandmabatty Tue 04-Aug-20 11:32:47

grandmafrench the weather has deteriorated even further now. Pouring and windy so definitely no outdoor activities. He's only 18 months so some activities are beyond him yet. I have a recipe for salt dough, thanks but he would eat it! At the moment he's napping. The wee scone fell and face planted the floor so now has a fat lip. Poor wee man. This afternoon will be lots of stories and playing with cars and trucks.

mrswoo Tue 04-Aug-20 11:50:40

Good morning from a dreary wet Newcastle. We were going for a drive out to the coast but have decided to cancel and go tomorrow when it will have stopped raining. Hopefully.
Just had a Zoom Slimming World "meeting". Next week we will be back " in real life" face to face. Slight panic has set in as during lockdown we have texted our weight to our consultant. I think most of us have weighed ourselves first thing in the morning - next weeks weigh-in we will have to be fully clothed! There could be a bit of a difference in our weight from what we had been claiming.
Marydoll please take it easy until you start to feel a bit better.

Gillybob I am so angry on your behalf at the dreadful way you and MrGB have been treated. Fingers crossed for tomorrow's appointment -

Mick your trip to Harrogate sounded really successful. Harrogate is lovely isn't it.

Have a good day everyone, wherever you are and whatever you do
