microwave accident

new microwave I think Alexa!

Alexa I know how frightening that can be! We had a new microwave a few years ago and put the correct item in it and it, quite literally, blew up. Big explosion noise, smoke etc! C***y's were brilliant about exchanging it and didn't even ask us if we'd put the wrong thing in there - though that did make me wonder if it had been from a dodgy batch!!

Alexa for your own safety I would get rid of that microwave asap.

You put a TIN in the microwave? Even an open tin will cause arcing and flames. You are very lucky it wasn't worse. Those who are blaming the microwave haven't read the instruction books for theirs.

Alexa at least a new one will not be costing you hundreds of pounds.

My comment was aimed at those whose instant assumption was that it was a fault in the microwave.

Microwaves don't like metal containers - my cousin bought several new microwaves for her MiL, who had a habit of using an ordinary saucepan in them, before the old lady progressed to other odd behaviour and went into care.

I think Alexa said she mistook it for her cup of tea. I am pretty she knows about tins in microwaves

To be honest for some reason I’m having a week of being very irritable.

I remember reading about a man who put a Christmas pudding into a microwave for a long time, misreading the instructions.
That caught fire too.

I did put a plate with a silver rim into the microwave once and it started arcing but I turned it off immediately.

SIL installed a new combi-oven here, it has metallic stands for the micro-wave, special metal seemingly.
Unfortunately, as it was metal I left it in when using the oven and the plastic feet melted onto the bottom.
It took days to scrape off, and smelt a bit funny for a while.

I have a combi-microwave - did away with a normal oven to save room. When I am using the convector programme I can and do use metal containers. When I am using the microwave programme need to ensure nothing metal goes in there.
I use this to make bread, bake cakes, patry and buns, as well as things like shepherds pie etc.

Elegran I was not one of the three replies who did not pick up the thread correctly. I was well aware why the microwave went on fire- it was a mistake thinking the dog food was Alexa's mug of coffee.

Oh goodness ladymuck crime of the century anyway she didn’t say it was on the same counter but even if it was the food and the drink are both inside receptacles not on the counter holding hands
I once blew up the microwave with a jacket potato really really scary a Big Bang and blue flashes and flames a quick switch off and I stopped shaking

Ladymuck. I have opened tins of dog food and cat food on work surfaces for over 30 years and I’m still here. I can honestly say that I have never put a can in the microwave.

Ladymuck. And anyway it wasn’t food, it was a cup of tea. You can be a bit too fussy you know. We’re pretty laid back in my house and don’t worry about minor little things like where the tin of dog food should be placed before opening it, very silly.
