What is your favourite proverb?

So many to choose from, but one of mine is;

My Mum's favourite was ' Don't get mad- get even'.

A calming one from my Father: 'Nothing matters very much; most things don't matter at all'.
Another favourite 'Other people's opinion of you is none of your business'. That one is a most liberating thought.

Mum’s favourite-don’t criticise others until you’ve tried it yourself.
She and my Dad thought along the same lines as he used to say, “Take the plank out of your own eye before you point out the speck in your brother’s eye.”

Oh, geekesse, I haven’t heard that for many, many years. It was my father’s favourite!
I especially like “a good wife is worth more than rubies”.

My mum's was " rogues never prosper ". If only she lived in this century !
Dad's was the procrastination one.

Always proverbs in our house along with the superstitions.

sodapop, nearly right. Julian of Norwich said “all will be well, all will be well, all manner of things will be well”.
My grandmother would say, “who pays his debts enriches himself”. A bit gnomish...

Be careful what you wish for
Or as St. Teresa of Avila said:
'There are more tears shed over answered prayers than unanswered prayers'

Ramblingrose22 Thu 03-Sept-20 10:32:20

"Discretion is the better part of valour".

Can't say I always follow this but I still like the proverb.

Quaver22 Thu 03-Sept-20 10:36:52

My daughter once had a boyfriend whose first language was Welsh. He used to get a bit confused with English sayings. He once told her”Count your chickens lucky!”

Newatthis Thu 03-Sept-20 10:40:50
