What is your favourite proverb?

So many to choose from, but one of mine is;

‘The road to hell is paved with good intentions’.

Don't judge a book by its cover.

Be good and let who will be clever.

A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.

Don't listen to your gut, it only delivers feaces , or pooh if you prefer.

I've always liked Proverbs 31: a good wife gets up early and tells the servants what to do. If only!!

Don't risk the ship for a halfpenny worth of tar and a stitch in time saves nine.
Have unfortunate experiences as a result of not practising these two!

On the same lines

Never put off for tomorrow what you can do today,
Tomorrow never comes no matter what you say.

Saggi Thu 03-Sept-20 13:44:21

My dads favourite, and something I’ve always lived by and passed to my kids...” be careful who you tread on , on your way up the ladder, because you may meet them on your way down”

maddyone Thu 03-Sept-20 13:44:34

All that glitters is not gold.

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Revenge is a dish that is eaten cold

One from the writer, James Thurber - You might as well fall flat on your face as lean over backwards too far.

Helennonotion Thu 03-Sept-20 14:23:47

Some days you're a pigeon, some days you're a statue.

We are what our histories make us.

United we stand, divided we fall.

‘Life is what happens while you are making plans’. John Lennon

A good soldier never looks behind. As good is a nod or a wink to a blind donkey. A man on a galloping horse wouldn’t see that ( spoken by my mother if I complained about a stained garment). Och, the things you see when you havna got your gun with ye. Are these strictly proverbs? I love them anyway.

Bamm Thu 03-Sept-20 15:07:39

I love that Sark, very wise. ( Dont judge a man until you have walked a mile in his shoes).

Bamm Thu 03-Sept-20 15:14:31

Sorry, Never, not Don't !

Live and let live. Don’t judge a book by its cover, what goes around comes around, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger

Delila Thu 03-Sept-20 16:07:58

I've always remembered this piece of graffiti on a wall, not a proverb exactly...

"The meek don't want it".
