Amazon paypal- beware

She was lucky- she got every penny back- folk she knew got zilch but I do not think they worked as hard as my friend because like most of us she could not afford to lose that amount of money- around £812.

It sounds as if your friend was scammed by the gift card system. This is a well known way for scammers to get your money.

My apologies that is all of the info I was given. Maybe forget about it if Amazon and Paypal are not linked.

I've said this many times but it's worth repeating.
If you are worried at all about buying on Amazon take your card off after your purchase. Yes, I know that you will have to put it on next time you buy but you will know your money is safe.

Blossoming apologies if I added to any confusion. Having read the OP I was pretty certain that I paid on Amazon via my PayPal account, but I was wrong.

PayPal is a safe payment method and offers good protection.
However there are many scams, PayPal always use your name, the scammers use “ dear customer”

The safest online payment method is Apple Pay, the information is encrypted so the retailer never has access to the actual card details

No bank, PayPal etc etc will ever ask for your log in details

I've had my entire Bank account cleaned out some years ago, cash was being drawn at an ATM in Rio de Janeiro (I was in London). I did get all the money back but what an awful feeling to be robbed in this way. Apparently my card had been cloned right here in London.

You can’t link your PayPal account on your Amazon account. I really don’t understand how a scam involving both together could happen, do you have any details?

I use PayPal but have set up another level of security which, I hope, will prevent fraudulent activity. Before I can proceed with making a payment, I get sent a text message, with a 5 digit passcode that is active for just 5 minutes. It's only by quoting that that the transaction can proceed. But I dare say even that could be compromised by those who do.

fevertree I am not sure- when she emailed me she linked the two together . She noticed quickly because she has been going OTT with buying from Amazon.

I never use PayPal. I have my credit card registered on Amazon. DH wishes I hadn't!!! I get worried if we dont have a nice delivery everyday.

This happened to us recently only it was someone buying goods on eBay using our PayPal account. Fortunately we got the money back.

Charleygirl do you mean there is a risk in paying for an Amazon purchase using PayPal? They are two separate companies. Or do you mean do not link a PayPal account to an Amazon account?
