I might start with the luxury of several weeks at a health resort, on a stunning Greek Island. Personal trainers etc to really get me in the right mindset.
Then a first class ticket to Australia to see my son. We'd have a touring holiday together.

What would you buy/do?
(184 Posts)When someone wins a large amount of money on the Lottery, Camelot advises them to take time to get over the shock. They've also discovered that people who have always struggled or been careful with money (which is most of us) find it difficult to spend more than they're used to...almost a sense of guilt. So Camelot advise them to buy themselves something (not gifts for others) that they would never have dreamed of buying in the past. This is to get them used to the idea that they can spend money on themselves and not just on others.
If you won the lottery and followed this advice what would you buy/do? Remember it can't be gifts for others. It has to be for you or you and your partner.
I did win the lottery twice this week when I buy only one Lotto ticket per draw - couldn't believe it - but my total of £32.60 is not going to buy many trees.
A personal trainer to bully incentivise me into getting as fit as I can be, very necessary due to lockdown. And, because I hate to see grass fields when they're not used for grazing or food, a plain, boring old field or ten to replant with trees and plants to keep bees and encourage wildlife.
After reading through some of these threads I have decided on my project.
I’m going to build 6 small but beautiful bungalows in a way that all will have privacy, parking and the use of a swimming pool and tennis court. I need six for the sisters and friends and the last one for the carers to live in when we need a bit of help.
Then I will buy another small unit in NSW so I can spend a few months every year with my DD and travel there first class.
I would get someone in to finish all the DIY stuff we've started but not quite completed. When the house and garden were all finished, I'd get in a housekeeper to make sure it stayed looking nice. Finally, I'd enjoy days out, visiting family, travelling, etc., without any anxiety about all the little jobs I've got to do at home! It would be bliss.
I'm still dreaming ?

A holiday home, one that is right on the beach, where you just step off the veranda, walk across the soft, golden sand and into a warm sea.
But, I would need a "Beam me up Scotty" type of machine to bet me there!
That's all for now.
A cottage in the Lake District with beautiful views and fantastic walking trails.
I would have 2 or 3 weeks at Jason Vale (The Juicemaster’s) Retreat in Portugal doing the juicing, swimming and yoga.
Then would hire a crewed timber framed Turkish gulet type boat and sail right around Corsica, Sardinia and all the Lavezzi islands with an entire day to snorkel extensively and adventurously in every single bay - taking a small handful of close friends...for around 3 months...
Can’t wait to read all the other good ideas here ?
Firstly, Worldwide private health insurance. Secondly, time at a health facility to help me lose the 2 stone in weight I want to get rid of.
I'd buy a rural property with some land and follow my dream...set up a 'doggy hospice' for those animals in kennels and rescue centres who are near the end of their lives.
If I can mention DH’s very specific dream - to buy a bungalow backing onto the Romney Hythe & Dymchurch Railway.
Any GNners got one for sale?
Poppyred
I would buy land and build a house to my own specifications. There would be a wrap around porch on the two levels like the ones in the southern states of the USA.
My own dream exactly and I have doodled it so many times over the decades. Plus downland views from the back of this house! To take advantage of those porches,
I might glass-in part of one porch so I could still enjoy the views in the winter.
Illte, this is my mother's wish, but only if someone else is doing the washing and ironing.
I would have the painting and decorating done that the house needs, pay off part or all of the mortgage and buy us a summer home in Spain.
If it was a very big win, I would also give the zoo money to build a big wooded enclosure for their karakals and support the local cat and dogs' home, plus schools for children in the poorest areas of the world.
A toy boy!
Only kidding, wouldn't change DH for the world. Perhaps a stay at a fitness farm to lose my lockdown weight
I would like a house with a sea view with a indoor swimming pool . Would like to travel using trains .
A little house next to a river with mooring rights.....
Well I won £30 on last nights lottery so I’m getting there !!
Still it’s not going to pay for the Victorian style cedar green house I’ve been lusting over for years.
A house in the country with orchards, big patio area with top-of-the-range BBQ, chickens, apiary, a huge kitchen garden and equally large herb garden (culinary, healing and (I'm a Wiccan) magical). A bit of woodland with traditional trees, a large wild-flower meadow. I would love a large pasture with stables for horses, goats and maybe donkeys. I'm a cat person and have always had a dream of breeding cameo kittens, but would also love a couple of dogs. A gym and swimming pool. Inside a ginormous luxury kitchen with range, breakfast bar, island, dishwasher, one of those taps which can provide boiling water, music room, a study/library/office with wall-to-wall bookcases and a games room with pingpong table, maybe pool table and a huge table where we can set up massive jigsaws (3,000 to 6,000 pieces). and at least 3 bedrooms, the master with en-suite loo, shower and wash/handbasin and lots of wardrobe space. The bathroom should have a lovely jacuzzi type fitting and a super large walk-in shower room. Heated towel rails. Lounge with surround-sound Bose, separate woofers, tweeters etc, large TV screen, and comfortable chairs for all the family and a table where we can eat our family meals if we so wish while we watch TV. Then luxury staff quarters for the cook, cleaner, gardener and driver. Finally, a small Wiccan meditation room/altar room where I can practise my magick, study, store my equipment and perform rituals.
Would like to have a village shop/post office and real ale pub with regular quiz nights, dominoes, cards, beer garden and good pub grub.
The other thing I would want to do is see the places and people I don't see as much as I'd like - my French and German friends, my ex-boss in Cape Town and my adopted Brazilian sister and other friends in Rio. And would also wish to go on walking holidays in UK, Europe and world wide.
OK, I don't think it's likely, but we can dream, can't we?
A full set of teeth and a very expensive haircut. ? it’s nice when you think about it and actually don’t want anything much.
A huge house near the sea in Cornwall.
I love where we live in the heart of the countryside of the Welsh Marches and we're currently in the throes of planning an orangery/utility room in place of a disgusting old lean-to. It's going to cost quite a lot & we'll have to do it in stages - a lottery win would mean doing it all at once, marvellous! And I'd have a pool put somewhere in a palatial pool house and I'd buy somewhere to retreat to on the Devon coast. Like Mollygo, we'd use a helicopter which our son can fly for us as he's a helicopter pilot by profession. Very handy! Just need to get the right numbers now...
Crazygranny, why not apply to The Cinnamon Trust?
A home in Cornwall or Devon with a heated swimming pool. I would employ a driver so i never had to worry about motorways amd narrow country lanes. I would also buy a small flat in London or the outskirts so if i wanted to go to a show, museum, event of some kind or The Savoy i could travel with ease. The family of course could also use these.
