It’s going to be very strange this year isn’t it.
I normally have all the children ( & their partners) over, but that won’t be happening now as there’s about 12 of us!
I love Christmas, but actually dreading this one.
How about you?

Phoebes Mon 12-Oct-20 13:57:57

No plans! Pointless making any as everything changes from day to day. Daughter, son-in-law and grand baby have already cancelled their visit from NY twice. Miss them terribly!

Not everyone celebrates Christmas, you know.

Lucca Mon 12-Oct-20 14:38:58

SAggi... neighbours interfering ? Don’t understand. I’m guessing your plans may change according to restrictions ? Or dud you mean you will ignore them?

Isn’t it early October ?
Does everyone have it all rigidly planned every year ?
I am allergic to it personally.

My family does
So many politics
So many tears when certain inlaws don’t get the day envisioned.

Far more stress than fun

Hideous! With The DS and family I have in UK I always made it totally clear that I expect nothing and will go with the flow. I’ve Spent some Christmases with them at theirs, some at mine, at least three not with them (going abroad etc.)
I can’t understand the rigid one year with one family next with the other all planned wrapped up etc by November, sorry but I don’t find that idea fun at all !

I’ve booked my Christmas delivery slot from Waitrose today. So with that and my Cook order I’ve actually kept all my options open. If it were safe and allowed to have Christmas with dd, then that can happen as Waitrose and Cook orders can be cancelled at very short notice. However, getting delivery slots at the last minute would probably be almost impossible. It suits my personality to have all bases covered and all choices available.

I'm in high hopes of several Christmas Days - one with DS and DDiL and GS and GD, and at some point DD, SiL and GS. I am determined that we will have a happy day with the usual food, games and fun, and think ourselves lucky that we can do so. There is usually a Christmas meal with friends too - so that can go ahead with the 'allowed' number present. Attitude is everything.

Very relaxed about it all. As I always wait to hear what the children and their families have decided to do. If they want to spend it with me (and the rules are still six people max) it will be first come first served, unless the number allowed goes up to 12.

Gwenisgreat1 Mon 12-Oct-20 15:51:22

Assuming the limit is still 6, my DD1 normally has a huge xmas dinner, I would imagine she would have 3 in laws and I would have DD2 and gs, but who know what will happen between now and then?

linspot

My family live a long way away, so I will be spending Christmas with my cat! However, I have suggested on our neighbourhood Internet group that we have an evening when we all stand in our gardens and sing carols and Christmas songs (hopefully the same song at the same time!). I think it would bring us all together and be quite a moving experience. From the responses I have had it seems a popular idea so far

What a lovely idea linspot, it will be especially nice for those who are alone, I hope lots of communities do the same.
Special thoughts and admiration to those of you who will be alone but are determined to make the best of it.
Those of us who have our other half to share the day are very lucky.
I am a bit disappointed that one or two still have that ‘no virus will interrupt my pleasure‘ attitude. Never mind the lives you put at risk along your merry way.

I am hoping that my Christmas will be as normal. My younger DS and 2 DGC are my support bubble so can see them as normal. The DGC rotate one year with Mum and one with Dad so they will be at mine for Boxing Day. My other son and partner always come to me so there will be four of us on Christmas Day.
Of course, if we go into lockdown, things will change. Cases are quite low here so hopefully no lockdown.

I thought I'd order some wine in case we can't get a Christmas grocery slot.

The website says:
Due to Welsh Covid-19 regulations, this product is only available in deliveries before 10pm
So not only will pubs be shut at 10pm, we're not supposed to have a glass of vino at home after 10pm!

GeeGee12 Mon 12-Oct-20 16:25:17

Will be different for us as daughter broken up with husband so have that to contend with as well as everything else that is going on. We will all of us have to plan accordingly and make the best we can of it. Hope we can still get chocolate I will be happy then lol xxx

Madammim1 Mon 12-Oct-20 16:26:07

We normally take it in turns with my dparents but my ddad has really bad copd and my dmum is my too good healthwise they have already shut themselves away again so as I won't be hosting dinner for them I'm working nights on Christmas Eve them having a couple of hours sleep before making a dinner of some sorts but doing a nice tea for my partners daughter .
I'll be doing the Santa run early Christmas Eve for my children and grandchildren and if my daughter has her baby early I'll be doing a facetime to the hospital to her and the new baby

grannylyn65 Mon 12-Oct-20 16:30:15

Me and no 1 son

Caro57 Mon 12-Oct-20 16:43:46

Will take it as it comes. DD probably at home with DGCs as hubby on nights in police so won’t be here. It’s not easy for anyone

Tedd1 Mon 12-Oct-20 16:47:43

Oh dear, I’ve stopped in the middle of this discussion and ordered some frozen food for next week. Thanks for the suggestion as I hate cooking every day!

I live in Colorado and no doubt our Christmas will be like any other as we only have son and family over. New Year's Eve we also have our neighbors over and that will go ahead as planned. I am not in fear of catching Covid. Even homeschool the grandsons.

But, this whole situation has impacted my overall mood about holidays. Since Corona measures began, and stores and fun venues were closed, there has been this undercurrent that has minimized joy. Do I look forward to Christmas this year? No.....will I enjoy it once it is here....I think so.

biba70 Mon 12-Oct-20 17:06:19

No plans, no idea- as we probably will not be able to be with family. Probably go to Hôtel with spa, for first time ever.

Or do a family Christmas for 1 or 2 families who have none.

annodomini Mon 12-Oct-20 17:16:36

If things are relaxed around Christmas, I will go to stay with my son (one) and his family. They live in an area which, at present, is safer than we are here. As for my VERY BIG birthday which is in just over three weeks, it looks as if I may have to celebrate on my own - celebrate still being alive, assuming I will be! I do so love fireworks! sad

Desdemona Mon 12-Oct-20 17:26:46

I hate Christmas, always have.

CBBL Mon 12-Oct-20 17:38:49

We expect to be over 700 miles away from family this year. We are moving to the north of Scotland, for Hubby's health. It's normally just the two of us anyway, as we have no living children of our own. We used to get a visit from my Niece, who now lives in London - so that was a long drive for her to our current home in Lincolnshire. We may, however, make new friends when we move - who knows!

Elizabeth1 Mon 12-Oct-20 17:40:29

Going for a real Christmas tree this year but will need to wait and see what the regulations are before we organise family gatherings I’m getting excited I do love a real tree covered in decorations and little lights smile

Hollyhock1 Mon 12-Oct-20 17:58:34

For the first time in 30yrs of marriage, hubby & I will be on our own over Christmas. Our 3 adult children/partners/grandchildren take it in turns between us and the 3 sets of other in laws and this year it's not our turn. We normally have my mum & dad for the day every year, but this year I'll be delivering their meal to them as they won't leave their house. TBH I'm looking forward to the break from catering for 13!! To just eat a nice meal, relax and watch TV in the evening sounds like bliss.

Susieq62 Mon 12-Oct-20 18:01:15

We have booked a cottage in Northumberland fir other half, my daughter and me. We booked it last Boxing Day as we love going there.
Other half has 3 sons with partners plus 2 grandchildren. They never ask us what our plans are for Christmas as they always look after their mum. Consequently we do our own thing. We go out for dinner on Christmas Eve, have sandwiches on the beach on Christmas Day after a long walk , open presents in the afternoon, eat later and will have steak plus gratin dauphinois etc. It suits us as we don’t do convention and we are a very small family.

Happysexagenarian Mon 12-Oct-20 19:06:18

No plans for Christmas other than eat, watch TV, walk the dog, sleep, repeat. Just the 2 of us. When my 70th birthday plans had to be cancelled in the summer I hoped we might (all 18 of us) get together for Christmas, but it's not to be. No point planning or complaining about it, it's nobody's fault just the way life is right now. I'll be happy if we are all well enough to enjoy Christmas in our own homes, and God willing we'll still be around to maybe share next Christmas with the family.
