Good Morning Wednesday
(87 Posts)Good Morning Everyone,
Its dark but looking dry and cold out there in Brackley this morning.
Anyway , my trip out yesterday saw some interesting things in the way people are shopping , there seems to a demand on artificial xmas trees plus xmas puds seem also to be in demand .
Today ,apart from watching cycling on TV later, I need to sort out my frost free fridge freezer as to water in base of fridge anyway have located the hole at back of the fridge part , so will use something once shelving has been removed , to plunge the whole and try and free up a blockage to allow water to drain out back of fridge freezer .
Take Care ,
Mick
PS
Glad to see some of the internees have broken out , looking forward to the return of the others , they include some of my favourite posters
I hope ann had a better night ,
Annapops many congratulations for your granddaughter. You must be so proud of her.
I have a granddaughter who has been accepted by BTUK, Ballet Theatre UK. She too did her audition remotely. The first meet up was cancelled last month so she is very excited that it will go ahead this Sunday.
I know Mawb2 has a grandson who dances, I think with the Birmingham Ballet School. Such talented grandchildren.

To make macaroon bars (makes 18-20):
• 1 large potato (100g after boiling)
• 400-500g icing sugar
• 2-3 drops vanilla extract
• 300g dark chocolate
• 100g dessicated coconut
Boil the potato until soft. Drain, measure out 100g, then mash until there are no lumps, and leave until cold.
Put the cold mashed potato, vanilla extract and 100g of icing sugar in a bowl. Mix well – the potato might seem very dry, but it will change into a very thick, sticky paste. Keep adding the icing sugar, 100g at a time, mixing well after each addition, until you have a stiff white fondant.
Line a tray with greaseproof paper, put the fondant in the tray, and press flat. Cover with cling film and leave in the freezer for an hour.
In the meantime, toast the coconut in the oven – spread thinly on a large baking sheet and cook in the oven at 150°C (300°F) for around 5 minutes until the coconut is just golden. Watch it carefully – it can burn very easily. Remove from the oven and allow to cool.
Remove the fondant from the freezer. Cut into bars (mine were finger length and just wider than finger width).
Melt the chocolate in a bowl above a pan of barely simmering water. Once the chocolate is melted and smooth, dip each piece of the sugar paste into the chocolate, then roll in the coconut. Transfer to a sheet of greasproof paper and allow to set.
Good morning Mick and the GM team, from east London where the sun has just come out... ?
I have work to do this afternoon on line, so I hope the sun stays out long enough for my walk this morning.
I have a pile of lovely birthday reading, but feel I need to finish my current book before I dive in. The trouble is that it’s Mary Trump’s Too much and Never Enough and I can only read about D Trump in short bursts.
Ginster and Sar, we too have been to that hotel in Thorpe Bay. We had a lovely weekend there, in a room with a little balcony overlooking the sea.
Kitty what a wonderful son, you must be so proud. That teapot will be treasured.
Annapops what a triumph for your DGD ... you’re not proud then ... (i’m kidding of course).
Good morning Doghouse 4, hello to Gilly and Bluesapphire and have a good day, all. ?
Gingster another vote for the seafront hotel beginning with R afternoon tea with a beautiful view (I can thoroughly recommend evening meals and lunches also)
Congratulations to your GD Annapops
Thank you Marydoll. What a great recipe. Definitely have to give it a try ?
Good morning from a grey but dry NE. The windows were covered in condensation when I peeped out.
Today is our 53rd wedding anniversary and we will be having our special lunch at home. We will open the vintage Champagne, no point in keeping it any longer or someone else might get the pleasure.
DD says to expect a bouquet.
Too cloudy to see Mars again.
Very early message from sister to say she was going to have an injection in her eye TMI at the crack of dawn.
Happy anniversary to the harrigrans

Congratulations to your GD Annapops
What a lovely message about your son Kitty. So glad that all came right in the end.
Welcome to our new farming poster - your ram seems to be doing his job!
Still sitting in bed with coffee, the cat and a gardening magazine. I must get moving!
Good morning all from a rainy day in Glasgow. No washing out today then!
What a lovely gesture and it’s message from your DS kitty.
You must have been bursting with pride when you heard of your GD’s achievements Annapops and Sar what talented GC you both have including our friend Maw whose GS is also a dancer. Watching the gracefulness of a ballet performance is mesmerising.
Whoopee, I have an outing today.....I am having my flu jab at 3.00pm and that’s about as exciting as my day will be I am rapidly losing track of time or day as each day rolls in to another.
Good morning to our remaining Doghouse2. Haste ye back.
Hope everyone has a pleasant day whatever you find to do and special thoughts to our missing friends, hoping you have a better day whatever is troubling you.
Good morning from a very wet North of Scotland. I had to wear my wellies to pop to the postbox. I need to wash my windows but every time I lift the bucket the heavens open. There have been some wonderful rainbows though. I am missing the tennis from last week so am reduced to doing useful things like swapping the clothes in the cupboard for winter ones. Because of the lockdown and doing so much gardening, I have worn the same handful of items all summer and not any of my nicer clothes. I started clearing the greenhouse this morning when it was 6 degrees and it has now gone up to 8 degrees! My local garden centre had sold out of spring bulbs last wee, which was so disappointing. As a family firm I always try to buy from them rather than online but needs must. Recommendations welcome.
annapops. Lovely news.
Enjoy the autumn colours everyone and have the best day you can.
Another lurker here who would like to join in! Greeting from a lovely sunny Yorkshire! After two gloomy days, the sun is shining, although I’m not sure for how long! I haven’t been out of the house for two days so I might take the opportunity to do some gardening jobs this morning. Or maybe go for a walk. DH is cross because he‘s wanted to take stuff to the tip and it’s closed on Wednesdays! I’m hoping to see the grandchildren after school too! I miss them!
Good morning everyone here and in the doghouse.
Congratulations annapops.
Good morning Mick and everyone from S Wales
Anyway, I have left over potatoes and this has prompted me to make chocolate macaroon bars today.
Well, who knew you could make fondant/marshmallow from potato? Do potatoes count as one of your 5 a day?
Congratulations to your DGD, Annapops.
You all sound as if you're having a busy day. We're puppy-sitting later then going for our flu jabs.
At least there's one thing to look forward to.
sheepandcattle welcome and what an interesting post.
Good morning Mick and all from dry and still Anglesey. I would like to second Marydoll’s thanks to Mick for this lovely gentle thread every morning.
Welcome to Bassgrammy and sheepandcows.
Well done to your granddaughter Annapops, you must be very proud.
Lovely to read about everybody’s family and the kind and pleasant gestures.
Our builders have gone quiet, must be morning tea. There is a portakabin in the garden whee they seem to spend more time than they do rendering the walls.
We bought 100 willow whips yesterday so will stick them all around the boundary to give us a windbreak. Will have to make sure they are far enough from the stock fence so that the livestock don’t eat the leaves when they grow.
Hope you all have a good day.
Good morning,
It’s a bright, sunny morning so far and not as cold as I thought - I put my thicker coat on to go and deliver a birthday card and came back sweltering! A big improvement on yesterday, which started out sunny but soon deteriorated into heavy rain. Typical, as I had put some washing out and had to quickly gather it back in again and dry it indoors.
Well done to your GD annapops. You must be thrilled for her.
Welcome to our two new posters today. This is a lovely thread, I think you will enjoy contributing.
Thoughts to those who are still not posting. ?
Take care everyone.
Sorry sheepandcattle, got your name wrong. Your post was really interesting and I look forward to more of the same.
Good morning everyone from dreich Scotland, Border country.
I'm expecting a roofer to give us a quote today for repairs. At least he'll be able to see where the rain is getting in.
How wonderful Annapops about your DGD! Good luck to her for the future.
I do admire those who follow their passion and not just good old common sense.
Can I used last night's leftover boiled tattie Marydoll? your recipe sounds scrummie.
Welcome to sheepandcattle and any other Newbies I have missed. If you get up late,(moi) everything takes longer including reading the GM thread.
Good Morning from Sunny Harrogate, I await a doctors telephone call, am hoping to find out if my breathing can be improved or is it as good as it gets!
What lovely news about your GD1, Annapops.
I have a wash on, so hope DH will hang it out before the rain starts. DH likes to hang it scientifically, I like to hang it so if it rains I can bring it in quickly!
Hope all are looking after themselves and keeping safe!
Another lurker, a very Good Morning Mick and everyone.
That system at the bad of the freezer is a night mare isnt it Mick?
Left us with an awful smell until we sorted it!
Sun out lovely.
Didnt get to see Mars last night as it was too cloudy here. Did anyone?
I love the Macaroon/potato recipe, Thank you Marydoll
Dog sitting here too. Lots of licks and hairy cuddles, they're such a joy. I'm glad I dont have to walk them everyday though, they have endless energy!

Gramamretto, I'm using last night's tatties. Just about to start making the sweeties.
I have to own up to not really following my own advice. I chuck the potato with some vanilla extract in my food processor and just keep adding icing sugar until I get a fondant consistency.
It's just, a bit of this and a bit of that. Always works!
Do be warned when toasting the coconut. I set the grill of my new cooker on fire recently!!!
