1000 words. Photos on GN.

They say a picture paints a thousand words and there have been some lovely photos on GN recently. I am a visual person and, especially at this time, pictures cheer me up. Autumn scenes, people's gardens, cake baking, craftwork, pets, clothes we fancy buying etc. Even stock images of Boris, royalty etc.
What is the general feeling? Are they superfluous or do they add another dimension? Are we "allowed" to just drop them into a non photographic thread?

Greyduster Tue 03-Nov-20 12:38:57

Yes, I did, Alishka. Wonderful. I think they’re doing another one. PW is a consummate fly angler. It’s a joy to see him cast a line, and BM is just a joy! The episode with the fortune telling chicken in the caravan had me rolling on the floor! The reservoir is Ladybower in the Peak District. A place to rebalance yourself, even if the fish aren’t playing.

Alishka Tue 03-Nov-20 12:25:19

Greyduster,WOW, what a stunning place! Btw, did you watch the Mortimer and Whitehead series Gone Fishing on bbc2? The wholeseries on iplayer. It's an absolute not-to-be-missed gem and a tribute to their 30+ year friendship.smile

Greyduster Tue 03-Nov-20 09:49:29

Good to hear that they’ll take the chairs back (they’re nice though, and the wallpaper would look great in my dining room!) but there’s nothing worse than furniture that dominates a room.
Not too bad a day for a walk then, Corner?
I have missed an entire year’s fishing this year for one reason and another. This is where I usually fish, often have the place to myself. I’ve missed it.

You gave a great sense of style Ellianne, I love things like that but I’m not very good at choosing or trusting my own instincts with colours etc so end up going for the safe aka boring option! I couldn’t risk chairs on line as I’m short and so many leave my wee legs dangling!

Beautiful beach photo corner ?

Ellianne Tue 03-Nov-20 09:35:42

Lovely photo cornergran.

Ellianne Tue 03-Nov-20 09:34:48

Thanks Puzzler. I won't buy online again. They were from a big company beginning with N* who have stores nationwide. But not one shop in the whole country to go and see the chairs!!
The company is being very good about returning them straightaway this week.

cornergran Tue 03-Nov-20 09:34:34

Yesterday’s very windy beach.

If the chairs are uncomfortable of course return them Ellianne, nothing worse. Love your style, the wallpaper is fabulous. You’ll get there with chairs.

Puzzler61 Tue 03-Nov-20 09:30:46

It’s so difficult even when you see furniture in a large showroom to image them in our smaller rooms. And even harden if you buy online.
Exquisite chairs Ellianne - both the shape and the colours of the fabric feeding into the shades of the wallpaper.
I don’t suppose the chairs have different styles or sizes?

Ellianne Tue 03-Nov-20 09:15:06

So this is the wallpaper and this is the chairs. I actually like the fabric of the chairs and the look goes well together. BUT the chairs are huge, far too wide, and wouldn't look out of place in a hotel lounge. Not good in my cosy snug. They are also very uncomfortable. sad

That advert brought a tear... and everyone’s beautiful images brought a smile. I think for most of us there’s not much between our tears and smiles these days!
No this isn’t the Lake District, it’s a riverside car park in Yorkshire. Fortunately there were no cars left there overnight! A local park this afternoon was calm and peaceful, though wet underfoot

Beautiful advert from Amazon. But they can certainly afford it. This pandemic has seen massive profit increases for them. Jeff Bezos’s Net Worth Has Increased by $24 Billion During the Covid-19 Pandemic. And that was in April. Goodness knows how much he's worth now.

Lisagran Mon 02-Nov-20 13:02:14

They’re flowering now, Bellanonna. I think I probably potted them up earlier than usual - they usually flower at Christmas. Very welcome now though!

Greyduster Mon 02-Nov-20 12:56:50

I’m not a fan of big budget adverts either but nice one, Amazon?. Thank you Ellianne.

Ellianne Mon 02-Nov-20 12:42:10

Not sure if videos work here, this stole my heart. I'm not usually a fan of adverts, and have reservations about Amazon, but this is art with a message.

Bellanonna Mon 02-Nov-20 11:48:35

Do you mean very early as in now, Lisagran (wow!) or earlier in the year?
Greyduster, lucky you!

Greyduster Mon 02-Nov-20 10:40:55

Into my heart an air that kills
From yon far country blows:
What are those blue remembered hills,
What spires, what farms are those?

That is the land of lost content,
I see it shining plain,
The happy highways where I went
And cannot come again. (Well, not for a while anyway!☹️)

Lisagran Mon 02-Nov-20 10:31:33

VERY early Paperwhite narcissi flowering! Lovely scent!

Wow very spooky Namsnanny...think I would be printing off and framing one...really atmospheric

Namsnanny Mon 02-Nov-20 00:10:01

moon Spooky moonlight walk in the woods Wooooooo!!!!

GrandmasueUK Sun 01-Nov-20 16:34:38

It certainly is a lovely area. I think people are surprised that I don’t live in the industrial north, so much countryside all around.

farview Sun 01-Nov-20 16:23:15

Yes Ellianne...get opinions ?
Grandmasue UK...we are lucky aren't we...its a beautiful area...

Ellianne Sun 01-Nov-20 14:55:06

Ellianne

It's for the snug Puzzler accompanied by some very wacky chairs. A bit "out there" as my son would say!

Disaster! They're going back!
Dare I post a photo?

GrandmasueUK Sun 01-Nov-20 14:11:29

farview

My 'go to' place..5mins from my house..Rivington Pike...

There is a possibility that my house is on your photo farview as I can see the pike from here, although it’s a bit grey here today. We used to go up the pike every Good Friday to the fair there.

Ellianne Sun 01-Nov-20 13:57:37

Somehow that lampost in the street reminds me of the original Mary Poppins film farview.
