1000 words. Photos on GN.

They say a picture paints a thousand words and there have been some lovely photos on GN recently. I am a visual person and, especially at this time, pictures cheer me up. Autumn scenes, people's gardens, cake baking, craftwork, pets, clothes we fancy buying etc. Even stock images of Boris, royalty etc.
What is the general feeling? Are they superfluous or do they add another dimension? Are we "allowed" to just drop them into a non photographic thread?

My 'go to' place..5mins from my house..Rivington Pike...

Callistemon Mon 19-Oct-20 15:06:27

That's definitely a far view, lovely.

farview Mon 19-Oct-20 15:13:38

Callistemen it's a tough climb to the pike..but yes..the view is absolutely stunning..

Presumably why you chose your username, farview, beautiful.

I'm enjoying all the lovely views.

Beautiful seaside photos and done other lovely views too. The only disadvantage of living where I do is the distance from the sea! But it’s not all bad, had a wander by this rocky outcrop this morning. My heart was in my mouth watching these two chaps taking selfies etc!

What lovely pictures Lisagran! Must have been a real treat to see seals there. Only been to Wales once, but was so impressed with the beautiful coastline, especially the Gower Peninsula.

Double rainbow on my daily walk with my grand-daughter last week.Every was staring at it in wonder....

We now have seven cruise ships including the Queen Mary 2 and the Azura bobbing around in Torbay. You can just see their lights in my photo (if your eyes are good!). Quite an eerie presence, and you have to wonder when or how the cruise industry will re start.

I emptied this pot out and the soil turned into a heart.

There are some wonderful images here. My contribution is a recent trips to Bourton on the Water and a Warwickshire butterfly farm.

An interesting gnarled tree along a local path, and my attempt at ink and watercolour. Not genius, but fun.

Love all your beautiful photos. What grand scenery!

MellowYellow - I love your 'heart' photo.
CanadianGran - I think your ink and watercolour picture is charming.
Thank you both! x

It's these simple every day photos that are the most remarkable, not the glossy glitz and bling. It is so important to preserve memories and views in pictures, and I can almost smell and taste some of the images on here! Thank you all.
Off to find some more subjects to snap today!

Ellianne Tue 20-Oct-20 09:02:31

The paintings and art work bring a new dimension too. Thank you for great ideas

grannyqueenie Tue 20-Oct-20 09:34:50

Really enjoying this thread and the creativity and imagination of everyone.! Even this strange time and worrying time there is beauty all around if we can just open our eyes to see it. It’s present in the mundane as well as the spectacular, as mellowyellow’s heart illustrates so well. Thanks everyone for sharing photos!
Here are some fungi, large and small.

Lisagran Tue 20-Oct-20 09:41:31

Lovely fungi, grannyqueenie! I saw an unusual one in the woods in the Spring -

Ellianne Tue 20-Oct-20 10:57:27

My fungi. I only stopped to take a picture to warn our daughter whose dog eats anything.

Scribbles Tue 20-Oct-20 16:03:58

Here's Freddie Mercury, forever struttin' his stuff in Montreux, Switzerland.
A bit closer to home, the Thames flood barrier taken from the Emirates air-line and a reminder of spring in a peaceful suburban street.

Greyduster Tue 20-Oct-20 16:10:33

My neighbour has a shaggy inkcap in his garden so I asked if I could photograph it. I told him you can eat them. I think he thinks I’m quite mad!

Ellianne Tue 20-Oct-20 16:13:38

I've just read its called a Lawyer's Wig too Greyduster.

Greyduster Tue 20-Oct-20 16:14:18

This bracket fungus chose just the right place to grow on this old man of the woods!

Callistemon Tue 20-Oct-20 16:14:52

I need you here, Greyduster* - which fungus is poisonous and which not.
In the meantime I'll err on the side of caution.
