They say a picture paints a thousand words and there have been some lovely photos on GN recently. I am a visual person and, especially at this time, pictures cheer me up. Autumn scenes, people's gardens, cake baking, craftwork, pets, clothes we fancy buying etc. Even stock images of Boris, royalty etc.
What is the general feeling? Are they superfluous or do they add another dimension? Are we "allowed" to just drop them into a non photographic thread?

Try not to be sad cornergran. Think of those sparkly photos as wonderful memories. The fairies will be back next year to sparkle their magic dust.

All is not rosy in my garden today, this wasn’t quite what I had in mind when I filled the bird feeders! There’s a shortage of green finches today too ?

These are from Longleat last Christmas. Felt quite sad when I came across them. We went by coach, a truly fun and stress free day and had planned to do the same in a couple of weeks. Too many coach restrictions for this year. Oh well, next year will come smile.

Evocative photos. All with interesting back stories.

Help for Heroes did a lovely ‘Fork Handles’ Christmas card this year - it sold out so fast I didn’t manage to get any.
Shakespeare’s ‘Blasted Heath’, Ellianne, or ‘Hound of the Baskervilles’??

Very funny Greyduster! Four Candles = Fork Handles grin

Brilliant greyduster?!!

Duh!! I'm so slow on the uptake I didn't get it first time.

Well you bright spark, that's made my day. Thank you smile

A murky Monday morning on a misty moor.

Lovely photos on a special theme today. Thank you.

Lovely memories there seacliff

My lovely Nans' old candlesticks, the only thing I have from her.

MiniMoon Sun 29-Nov-20 20:19:18

I got these out this afternoon. I found them while looking for the outdoor fairy lights, which seem to have disappeared.

Beautiful words Ellianne, without hope we really are doomed! I love candles but it wasn’t them that made me smile today, it was this window display as we walked around our little town. Did my old boy picked up on the hefty Christmas hint that I dropped? I live in hope!

I bought this little roundabout candle in Norway a few years ago. The photo doesn't show it very well, but the figures turn with the rising flame and dance on the wall and on the table.

Advent Sunday, so candles very appropriate Elliane especially on a dark dreary teatime.?

cornergran Sun 29-Nov-20 16:12:50

Love your outside the box greyd smile.

cornergran Sun 29-Nov-20 16:11:53

A couple of displays with candles from the Bishops Palace at Wells, two years ago now.

Some of my Christmas candles. And one “thinking outside the box”!

Alygran Sun 29-Nov-20 10:37:00

Ellianne what a lovely picture and thought.

Lisagran Sun 29-Nov-20 10:27:35

Candlelit display at a National Trust house last year

FannyCornforth Sun 29-Nov-20 10:17:09

Amen to that Ellianne x

Its Advent Sunday. Let the light shine away the darkness and always have hope that things will get better.
I can't post a photo of my favourite candle until tonight but here's one my DD made earlier from foraging in the woods.

Ellianne Where have all those apples gone?
Fermenting nicely, we hope!

There are some lovely photos on here, talented photographers.

I like your garden collage, seacliff, very cheering on a grey, damp, miserable day here.

OK important little announcement here.

Let's try and see how it might work. Tomorrow is advent Sunday. Any photos of candles welcome ...... you can think out of the box. Maybe someone can up with another suggestion for Monday 1st and so on each day until 24th December. Preferably Christmas themes like the trees, reindeer, robins, mistletoe, shop windows etc. Best to give people a day or two's notice to get out there or to dig out old photos.

About 10 miles east of Exeter Nansnanny. I think a lot of the apples go for Devon scrumpy and fruit juice.
