Really light hearted (superficial and daft) even) thread

On another post, someone suggested that it would be a good idea for posters to have avatars so that it would be easier to recognise each other.

In mind of that, I thought that perhaps we could describe ourselves a little, so that we can have a mental image?

You could start with a well known person who you have been told that you look a bit like; or a person who you would like to look like; or just give three adjectives.

So, to get the ball rolling, MrC thinks that I look like Boy George in his younger days (I know, aren't I the lucky one, blush)

I would love to look like Helena Bonham Carter, but I'd settle for Kirstie Alsop (they are sort of idealised versions of me).

I hope that we have some fun with this thread.
Do with it what you want!
Like I said, it's just a bit daftsmile

My father & I are two peas in a pod. When I was younger I would get called George Melly, but then I also get called Indy, Crocodile Dundee and even Toht! As in Major Toht, the gestapo officer in Raiders of the Lost Ark portrayed by Ronald Lacey. It's because I wear hats, fedora hats.

Kikibobby Mon 16-Nov-20 10:47:19

I'll take it! Thank you X

Marydoll Mon 16-Nov-20 10:48:33

Spangler, I knew you reminded me of someone! George Melly!!

Have recently been in touch with an old friend I haven’t seen for nearly forty years. She says that I am a dead ringer for Beth Rigby, a political reporter on Sky. Had to look her up. Ha, ha, not now I don’t! The wizened old hag looking at me from the mirror is nothing like her!
Anyone remember Peggy Mount? She puts me in mind of me.

My mum looks like the Queen ??. I was told when I was young I looked like Jodi foster. My late partner was a dead ringer for Brad Garrett (the policeman brother in everyone loves Raymond ).

Neilspurgeon0 Mon 16-Nov-20 10:55:02

Dustin Hoffmann (but scruffier)

Kate1949 Mon 16-Nov-20 10:59:08

When I was young I was always being told that I looked like Susan Hanson (Miss Diane from Crossroads). I was quite miffed. I saw myself as far more gorgeous than her grin. I don't think I look like anyone famous now, although my sister says I remind her of Lindsey Duncan, the actress. I am envious of those io you who are being told you look like people like Joanna Lumley. Anita Harris looks amazing now too.

Annaram1 Mon 16-Nov-20 10:59:20

I look like Elizabeth Taylor (I wish)

handbaghoarder Mon 16-Nov-20 10:59:43

My two grandsons live in Bangkok and get UK TV. They always thought I was Alison Steadman. I wish. My oldest granddaughter says Im like Patricia Hodge in Miranda, in looks and ways apparently ?? I probably weigh more than the two of them added together now and certainly dont have their bank balances ?

Chicklette Mon 16-Nov-20 10:59:53

I’m definitely like my Mum, though probably chubbier than she ever got. My darling SIL says I look like Wendolene from Wallace and Grommit! Other than that I can’t think of any famous people who look like me. When I was young people insisted I looked like Maria Schneider from Last Tango in Paris, which was nice as she was gorgeous.

Ladyleftfieldlover Mon 16-Nov-20 11:00:30

When I was younger people said I looked like Melanie, the American folk singer. Maybe. Now at 67, I am told I do not look my age, probably 10 years younger. I have inherited my mother's good skin and my father's brown eyes. I used to be really skinny and a size 8. Three children put paid to that and I am size 16 now. I colour my hair brown/blonde/red but there are hints of grey there.

Very happy to be the image of my lovely Mum but Audrey Hepburn would be a close second choice!!

Penelope33 Mon 16-Nov-20 11:06:54

When I used to read to 3 year olds in our local library, they agreed that I looked like the evil fairy. images.app.goo.gl/YE4Y1BvWvTgPbJms8

Ladyleftfieldlover, my friend also repeatedly says:

'People say I look so young!'

- and I just think to myself that they'd never actually say:

'You look really old for your age' - now would they?

LauraNorder Mon 16-Nov-20 11:17:39

We did have a similar thread a long time ago. I was told I looked like Cilla back in 60’s until she had a nose job. Later I was often told I look like Patricia Hodge. I remember when I posted this that at least half a dozen others said the same, I must have sisters on gransnet. Handbaghoarder you’re one.

BlueSky Mon 16-Nov-20 11:19:01

Great lighthearted thread. Love some of the hilarious replies! One of my cousins looks like the Queen but she’s upset if you mention it as she’s 10 years younger than HM! grin

Maggiemaybe Mon 16-Nov-20 11:23:10

We’ve some right glamour pusses on here. smile My closest brush to that was when DGS2 used to be convinced that I was the dancing pineapple in the Agadoo video.

Grandelly54 Mon 16-Nov-20 11:28:34

Christmas cards-tell me if I'm being unreasonable. Every year I send Christmas cards to family and friends, probably about 80 odd. This year I decided not to send cards as the postage is getting very expensive, even second class. I've been letting people know so as not to offend anyone, but one of my closest friends seems to have taken it personally, I explained my reasons one being to donate the money to a local homeless charity, but she's upset now and hasbtwxt me saying it has been keeping her awake and that if that's the case we won't do presents either. Is it me being stingy?

GreyKnitter Mon 16-Nov-20 11:29:04

Several years ago now my mums friend said I looked like Virginia Wade - I’m def nowhere near as sporty I have to say. I couldn’t see it. Whenever we go abroad my husband is always asked if he’s related to Jack Nicholson. Again I really can’t see it but the holiday isn’t considered a success unless he’s been asked at least once!

kittylester Mon 16-Nov-20 11:31:08

grandelly. You would be better starting a fresh thread.

Welcome if you are new.

Blossoming Mon 16-Nov-20 11:34:15

I’m the image of my mother, but I’ve never been told that I look like anybody famous.

Nona4ever Mon 16-Nov-20 11:34:16

Right now?
Worzel Gummidge.

Evil Fairy from Sleeping Beauty nominated by my little three year olds to whom I used to read stories in our local library:

schnackie Mon 16-Nov-20 11:38:16

No one famous, but when I was young I was frequently asked if I was so-and-so, some acquaintance of theirs, and I got to the point where I would just say "No, but I apparently have a very common face."
