The more tenuous and obscure the better!
My aunty went out with the bloke who designed * both*
A) the Cadbury's Chocolate Orange packaging, and
B) Buzby, the British Telecom mascot

When I worked for the then GPO in Liverpool as soon as I finished work I would run down to the Cavern and have drinks (coca cola) and chat with The Beatles when they had finished playing, reminded Paul McCartney of this when he was married to Linda when they came to visit family and met him again one New Year at the local pub on The Prom opposite Liverpool.
Met and became friends with all the crowd from Brookside when I was selling apartments on Liverpool docklands,a lot of them rented there whilst they where filming the series I did a couple of walk on-off scenes over the years it was on TV for just seconds nothing major.

I once helped with a Guiding event attended by Princess Margaret. The instructions beforehand stated that she had to have her own allocated toilet and if she did use it no one was allowed in for half an hour afterwards! (I suspect the instructions are the same for all members of the Royal Family)

MrsDally Sat 21-Nov-20 18:36:09

My DD was on Blockbusters (and she got to say "Can I have a P please Bob") and I once worked with someone who went out with George Best!

I was going to present the queen with a bouquet after she opened the Royal Welsh Show, only she was unwell!

Grannynannywanny Sat 21-Nov-20 18:57:00

dolphindaisy I have a relative who worked in the BBC many years ago. The week before Princess Anne was due to visit the toilet pan and wash hand basin were removed from the ground floor staff toilet. The area was painted and fitted with new toilet and sink( despite a very recent refurbishment) Then the door was locked and nobody was allowed to use it till after the Royal visit. Princess Anne came and went but didn’t need to “go!”

In the 80s I was on the beach with my family in Salcombe and Jill from Crossroads was sunbatheing just behind where we were sitting.

Callistemon Sat 21-Nov-20 19:49:47

Jill from Crossroads

I had to spend an evening entertaining Sandy from Crossroads when he was a guest of honour at our Rag Ball. He didn't want to be there and he was very hard going. Not the best evening I've ever spent!

Callistemon Sat 21-Nov-20 19:52:21

Oh dear, I just googled Sandy (Roger Tonge) and he became ill and died in 1981.
The evening wasn't that bad.

Kate1949 Sat 21-Nov-20 19:52:43

I used to see the Crossroads cast regularly when I worked in Birmingham City Centre.

I remember the shaky sets
And Amy Turtle!

Brief Encounter was supposed to be on TV this afternoon, but they kept the tennis on instead. That reminded me that some relation of a friend of my mother’s had been Station Master at Carnforth station., where it was filmed in 1945.

Geezer Butler from Black Sabbath had one of my cats kittens. Don't think Ozzy Osborne ate it.......?

FC this is my third post in the thread and my best shot at my tenuous claim to fame ... I have had my hand on a Stradivarius violin (in its case) worth £10 million pounds. I can’t play the violin.

I looked after the Strad for 10 mins, whilst a world famous violinist gave a master class to the children’s orchestra in east London, where I was the head of the organisation.

More a “blast from the past - yuk!” than a claim to fame but we stopped at the same lay-by as Jimmy Saville before he was “found out “ This was during his Lands End to John o Groats walk in about 1969 or 1970 He was horrible and my sister+I held hands as he kissed us! Thank god our parents were there!

Daughter (5yrs) brought a schoolfriend home for tea (early 80s) who boasted "Chris Waddle is my uncle" , quick as a flash daughter replied "well, Arthur ????? is my grandad" . My Dad was ever so chuffed to be considered famous.
Chas Chandlers wife and her sister looked around our house when it was for sale....I aasn't there and she didn't buy it.

I flagged down a passing helicopter to get a lift ashore. One of the obliging pilots was Prince Andrew.

In 1807 my 4 x great grandparents were married by Patrick Bronte, father of Emily, Anne and Jane Bronte.

That is so amazing Chestnut - I have been to Howarth and visited the church where they lived and where your 4 x grandparents were married! smile

I'm afraid he married them when he was a young curate down in Essex, although 30 years later he also buried my 3 x great grandmother in Haworth. And she was from a completely different family!

My friend was brought up in the same compound in Allahabad as Harry Webb, later Cliff Richard. Another friend taught Paul McCartney’s niece. I taught Nicky Duran Duran Rhodes’ niece, Mickey UB40 Virtue’s sister, and the nephew of the man who provided Tony the Tiger’s GRRRR!
I know someone who went out with Ann Widdecombe at university. Julian Lloyd Webber sat behind me at a concert. Paul McGrath held a taxi door open for me. I won lunch with Nigel Slater.

My aunty (the same one as in the op) sold a cat to Sir Roy Strong.
As I'm the arty farty one in the family she took me to his house to meet him.
He was just as lovely as you would expect.
