Hello All
I'm often awake in the small hours,
for a variety of reasons which I'm sure that many are familiar with.
So I'm starting this thread for anyone in the same position.
We can chat, share our 3am worries, whatever.

Just got into a freezing cold bed! The wind is blowing a gale outside.
Have sent a long email off to my SIL - she likes to know how her brother (my DH) is doing with his treatment in lockdown.
Actually, it’s all going ahead and hasn’t been affected by lockdown at all. We are back to Hospital tomorrow, starting the second half of a year’s course of treatment. We understand it’s going to be a blood test and if all ok, he’ll get his next lot of 21 tablets to take at home.

Allowed to pick up DGS from Nursery afterwards and take him home. Every cloud?

Lucky you! My bottom is definitely becoming fatter. And I admire your charity walk. Solo - that's dedication.

I have to say, this is making me a lot more cheerful. There was a post a while ago about being up in the middle of the night. Then, the thought of other Grans pottering made me smile. But chatting is better.

Hello, although I do have insomnia as well, I'm here because of the time difference! There are 8 hours between us...
I work a night shift; it's 6:41 pm here and all is quiet, so I take time to pop in and check the threads. I don't get a chance to chase all the heated discussions during your day, but will add my two cents well into the discussion, when no-one else is up.

For insomnia I usually listen to podcasts, the more boring the better. We have one on CBC called Quirks and Quarks, which is a science podcast, and I also listen to BBC History Extra podcast. I can set the timer for 15 or 30 minutes and generally don't hear the end of it! Although I admit to knowing a bit more about deep-sea squid discoveries, and 'the princes in the tower'.

Morning all! I haven't even started to get ready for bed yet as I put it off each night. Can't seem to get into bed before 4.15-30 by the time I've let the dog out. I happen to be a news junkie as well - it's a nuisance. I dread it each time as it hurts so much to lie down, despite having the head part raised. I have about 6 different rheumatic diseases, including fibromyalgia,which doesn't help, & an accident to my neck in March has left me with terrible pains in my head. This thread is great - nice to know some of you might be up, even if you've been lucky enough to get some sleep first!

Just popped in to say Hi!!
I'm not usually insomniac but I was woken abruptly by my DH when he fell out of bed.
I have been listening to Private Passions, a sort of radio 3 version of desert island discs. Harry Enfield. A podcast - not live.

Hello everyone.I was annoyed with myself for falling asleep on the sofa at 7pm last night. It was only for half an hour but I knew it would ruin my night's sleep and I was right. As usual I slept for a couple of hours but then woke up wide awake. It took me until lunchtime yesterday to summon up any reasonable energy and I know that feeling of scratchy eyes that someone mentioned.I will read for a bit and then just try and enjoy the comfort of the bed.I hope some of you will be able to drop off if only for a little while.

We had a family trauma last August. Since then I find it all replaying in my head when I go to bed. Some nights I’m fine. Other nights I either can’t get to sleep or, like tonight, wake up after a few hours and can’t drop off again.
I hope that, eventually, everything will be resolved and I will get back to sleeping well again.
In the meantime, hello to all you night owls.

Hi. I have slept a while, but will find it hard to doze off again. I have an imaginary black door which I try to visualise, the purpose of which is to block out all the night time worries. It doesn't always work though. I'll have a go.

I had forgotten all about it. I think it is better than Desert Island Discs which is so disappointing these days.

Not a good night due to pain from sciatica. GP has upped my medication and hopefully it will be ready to collect this morning.

I am not a night owl. I just live pretty much diametrically across the globe from the UK so most of my posts – and there aren't many of them these days – pop up during your night.

Morning Night Owls. A decent night for me so I wasn’t with you in the early hours. There’s a bit of a pattern of two or here nights sleep and hen one awake so I’m sure I’ll be back soon. Rest when you can.

I nearly popped in, I went to bed at 10.30, but couldn’t get off to sleep, despite having had a long walk earlier. At midnight I got up and read a bit. Fortunately by 1am I was tired again and slept till 6.30.
Hope those with little sleep manage to have a nap later.

Was it the thought of being able to communicate if I couldn’t sleep?
I slept through till 6.10 this morning and only woke then because DH brought a cup of tea and reminded me to do the COVID test Ipsos MORI sent.

Ive just woken upblush. After my last post I made tea & toast then must have finally got to sleep. Waking so late always feels like a hangover without the benefit of alcohol

Marmight I don’t want surgery again because when had surgery in the past I had bad reaction to morphine. My blood pressure was so dangerously low and they could not use an alternative.
On leaving hospital after THR I was on pain killers but even that was just for a limited time. My body appears to reject medicines by giving a bad reaction. Therefore the pain was so bad I was wishing myself dead. I just don’t want to repeat that. I am due to get the flu jab but even dreading that as I had a bad reaction last year that lasted over four weeks.

I am also sorry about that Redhead
I know too well the pain you must be feeling.
I don’t think morphine is used routinely, I certainly didn’t have any and for this last op only had Paracetamol and 3 days of Ibuprofen for the inflammation.
I do hope you can be helped in other ways.

So many of you not able to sleep because of pain. It must be so draining for you. I count my blessings that my health is very good, and I really feel for you all.
I had a hip replacement in 2018. The first few weeks were quite painful, and lying on my back was really uncomfortable. I also found that going downstairs and sleeping in my recliner helped a lot. It was a real bargain, from EBay, and I’m so glad I bought it.
I made an excellent recovery, and am now pain free and able to walk quite long distances. Redhead 56, I’m so sorry to hear of your predicament. I wonder if hypnotism could help? I don’t suppose it would, post-op, in the long term.
I went back to bed at 5.30, nodded off right away, and was woken at 10am by my 3 year old Aussie GD buzzing on Messenger for her bedtime story!

Have any of you experienced a neck collar at night? I was told to use one by a muscular skeleton man who just said get a small & soft one. The size/depth seems to be trial & error - I'm on my second one & find sleeping even more difficult. If money was no object I'd just try them all.

Am feeling sorry for those of you who have problems with sleep. I rarely have much problem sleeping but am a night owl because I don't like going to bed early. When I am up, I don't want to go to bed, and when I am cosy in bed in the morning, I don't want to get up!! When I am on my own this is not a problem, but when I am with others, I try to adapt to a more acceptable routine. As a granny in my 70s, I am a good baby sitter as staying up very late gives the parents quite a bit of freedom! However, I naturally haven't been able to do baby sitting recently because of present circumstances.

Hello Night Owls! ? Can anyone tell me which heading/title this thread comes under when not in the daily active forum?
I looked under Health, but it wasn’t there.

I hope we all get a few hours of good sleep tonight. I have my new prescription, but I’m not feeling drowsy yet! ? As long as the pills take away the pain for a couple of hours, I will be so grateful.

I am reading ‘Olive Again’ by Elizabeth Strout. I am thoroughly enjoying it. I think it’s probably best to read the first book, ‘Olive Kitteridge’ before dipping into this new novel. However, a panel on a Radio 4 book programme, disagree with my opinion! ?☺️
