I can’t bear “Cry me a river “

Nannarose Tue 24-Nov-20 22:24:56

Loving this!
I dislike 'Wonderful Tonight' because it's all about the writer, describing the daft woman who dotes on him. I was astonished when it was played at the funeral of a friend - who I thought of as an independent- minded woman. Maybe we all hear different meanings in songs!
And of course Delilah (she made me do it)
And I don't like Imagine either (how hard did you have to try to imagine no possessions John?)
Jolene (although I love lots of Dolly Parton's songs) - why do you want such a weak-minded man?
I used to think 3 Little Birds rather trite, but it is one of my GCs' favourites, and now, as I think of the little birds singing, I can see how it could be a song of hope.

Come on Eileen for me too - just awful. Don’t like ABBA or anything by Cliff Richard.

Grandmafrench Tue 24-Nov-20 22:37:19

Spot on, Georgesgran. Come on Eileen and I can feel my teeth grinding together! Then there's that appalling screechy noise made by the Jackson 5 to the discordant Crazy Horses! OMG ?
And Paul MacCartney straining to shout "Back in the USSR". And the nauseating "Honey, I miss you (?) - Bobby Goldsboro. And what about René and Renata? ........awful songs are endless.

Mistletoe and Wine. Totally sickly.
Shania Twain - Man! I feel Like a Woman. I turn off the radio.
You'll Never Walk Alone. Total drivel.
Anything, absolutely anything by Gilbert O'Sullivan - if anyone can remember him!

I just don’t like Over the Rainbow, it’s dreary, maudlin, and I just have to switch it off,
Come on Eileen , Hey Jude, that goes on and on ,
Let it be. Another dirge by Paul McCartney,

Kate1949 Tue 24-Nov-20 23:02:18

Goodness. I love most of the songs you all hate grin Hey Jude is my favourite song of all time.

BlueSky Tue 24-Nov-20 23:37:03

Same here Kate love the Paul McCartney ones and ABBA’s. Can’t stand most country music.

Power ballads have me switching off. They start innocently enough, then the voice gets louder and shoutier until they are in a frenzy. Makes me totally stressed.

Also get annoyed by anything that repeats to much. Police are bad at this ......message in a bottle......message in a bottle......message in a bottle......message in a bottle......message in a bottle......message in a bottle......message in a bottle......message in a bottle.
Switch off!

Anything that Elton John sings. He has a truly miserable voice.
But so many of the songs listed on this thread are favourites of mine; especially Bill Withers Lovely Day. smile

FannyCornforth Wed 25-Nov-20 04:18:19

Chewbacca I couldn't agree more re Elton John. The most overrated act ever.
His only decent song is 'Philadephia Freedom'.

FannyCornforth Wed 25-Nov-20 04:21:32

Grandmafrench your mention of 'Back in the USSR' has reminded me of my favourite album title:
Half Man Half Biscuit's 'Back in the DHSS' grin

Crazy Horses was the Osmonds not the Jackson 5. ?

LadyBella
'You'll never walk alone'. Total drivel'

Each to their own and all that, but that's just wrong.
It's not exactly Crazy Frog hmm

suzette1613 Wed 25-Nov-20 06:32:10

Most things by John Lennon, he had such a sneery voice.
Anything by Wings too.
Can’t stand ‘Amazing Grace’ or ‘The Old Rugged Cross’ either, l have threatened to haunt anyone if they are played at my funeral.

Calendargirl Wed 25-Nov-20 06:51:29

Well, I like lots of these!

Lucca yes I remember the Crispin (Crispian?) St Peter one, I fancied him, had his name scrawled in felt pen, along with other favourites, on the inside lid of my P.E. case, when I was about 14.

NotAGran55 Wed 25-Nov-20 06:53:25

Elton John has given me the rage ever since his 1975 Wembley Stadium gig which I left early along with 10s of thousands of others .

He did apologise decades later for his arrogant behaviour at that time but he still rattles my cage . In my view Bernie is the talent in the duo .

Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep gets me running to the OFF radio button and always has .

PollyDolly Wed 25-Nov-20 06:59:22

Two Little Boys by Rolph Harris........more so since he was convicted!

DanniRae Wed 25-Nov-20 07:33:50

I really like a lot of these songs - weird how we are all so different.
I dislike Lady Marmalade and It's Raining Men. When I used to go to dances and It's Raining Men came on everyone headed for the dance floor. Me I headed for the bar!
I love all Christmas music and come 1 December will be getting all my Christmassy cd's out smile

Lucca Wed 25-Nov-20 08:44:15

Almost forgot.... cant bear anything sung by Tom Jones

henetha Wed 25-Nov-20 09:56:41

Stand by your Man by Tammy Wynette..I hate the lyrics.
And Lady Marmalade is really unpleasant.

JackyB Wed 25-Nov-20 10:04:53

Some of the ones mentioned are my favourites and others I agree with. That Hawaiian bloke singing Over The Rainbow makes me want to scream - can't he get the words right? He gets them wrong every time. And Bryan Adams "To love a woman"(or something like that) - not sure if it's the corny 3/4 time or the sickly lyrics but it makes me want to puke.

Parsley3 Wed 25-Nov-20 10:12:11

Hallelujah- nonsensical lyrics
It’s a Wonderful World - too cheesy
Anything by Adele - too whiney

TwoWolves Wed 25-Nov-20 10:13:21

Ha, this is fun. So many of my loved songs set other people's teeth on edge. But that Umbrella song by Rhianna (was it?) is my all time most hated plus anything at all by screamy Beyonce.

Favourites of all time are Daydream Believer and One Day Like This (Elbow).

Westcoaster Wed 25-Nov-20 10:58:45

I absolutely hate McArthur Park, it makes me want to scream until it's over.

lovebeigecardigans1955 Wed 25-Nov-20 11:37:53

Nights in White Satin by the Moody Blues - please tell me I'm not the only one.
Mack the Knife
Fairytale of New York
The Lady is a Tramp
Frankie by Sister Sledge in the most persistent earworm so it's the Off button whenever I hear the opening bars.
