Good Morning Everyone,
I have woken to yet a dark and dry morning , and maybe some fog .
Today , I plan I small shop and hopefully get another delivery from Parsley Box .
Feeling a little better , but its avoiding meeting others at close quarters, which I try to avoid ,and my other problem is I have panicked just lately , say in a que ,and experiencing cold conditions outside to to return to my nice warmed flat which feels cosy with the heating on.
I will also be at home for Christmas , I normally go to sister and brother in law in Shropshire .
With current situation , they had planned to go to my niece in Canada, but due to lockdowns over there its off, but we could get together but coronavirus rules state no stopovers , although with my brother it would 4 .
Add to the fact you cannot go to the pub and have a social drink unless you have a meal which restricts it again.
Take Care ,
Mick

Good morning from North Yorkshire. It’s grey but dry so far. I may put some washing on.
I have a meeting with our new coordinator at the charity where I am a trustee. I have things to hand over so zoom isn’t appropriate this time.
After that I must wrap the remaining few presents including those that should be with me today.
Kitty you must be so fed up with the leaky roof.
Have a good day everyone and stay safe.

Good morning all from a dark and cloudy Glasgow.

Grandmattie, I'm glad to hear things are settling down. I can empathise how difficult it is not to offer too much advice to our adult children. We often walk on eggshells with DS1, who takes any advice as a personal criticism of his parenting skills. I have learned to choose my battles.

I got carried away yesterday and ran amok with a steam cleaner, as for the first time in weeks, I felt reasonably well. As usual I overdid it and feel pretty rubbish today. However, my range cooker and toilets are sparking!!! ?

I can't remember who warned me on here about Morrisons, online deliveries, it may have been, Gwenisgreat, but you were correct. I couldn't find the "no substitutions" box, so yesterday ended up with a joint of lamb at £10, when I only ordered a small lamb shank to make soup!
I wasn't too happy until I looked at what I had been charged. Only £1.81!!!

Today, I have a few presents to wrap (if I can find them) and I'm done! I just have to brave the cupboard in DH'S man cave.
For the first time in 43 years, I'm way ahead of the game! I have at last had the patience to pace myself. Believe that and you believe anything. ?

I had a small package to post to DS2 with some tree decorations for him and his fiancée for their new home. He only lives twenty minutes away, but we are both in Level 4 in two different areas and consequently not allowed to travel.
I have tried to get into my lovely, future DIL's good books by buying, ethically sourced, recycled, Fair Trade ones. She once (correctly) lectured me about a coral necklace I had bought at a vintage stall in Rome. I was quite naive about coral. ?

I was delighted to read on GN that I could pay for the postage online, as I can't safely go to the post office.
My plan was to give it to our very obliging postman to post for me, but I missed him, so I decided to jump in my car, (too exhausted to walk,) and post it.
I was astonished to see how busy the traffic was, busier than normal, despite us being in lockdown. Where were all those people going or coming from???
We are going into Level 3 on Friday, but still can't cross county lines, so if I wanted to go into Glasgow, I still couldn't!

Wishing everyone a pleasant day and I will come back later to read all the news.

Good morning from a cold but so far dry day in N Hants. Hoping it stays that way as I’m walking with a friend this morning. That will be followed by not very much.
So good to know things are settling down GrandMattie, it seems your little granddaughter has been on a very long journey so no wonder she was struggling. Hope Iris and her family find it gets easier day by day.
Urms are you allowed out yet and if so will you be able to see family? Your Covid warrior would probably love to see you, even at a distance. Thank goodness she’s feeling better.
Wishing everyone a good day.

Good Morning from a dry but chilly and cloudy Black Country.

I was awake at 4am and couldn't seem to get back to sleep. The next thing I know it is 8am!

Popping over to Mums have a walk together along the Staffordshire railway walk. and post a parcel to my DS and family. Saves me driving 35 miles when I cannot even go inside.

So sorry about your Hall Kitty it must be so frustrating. I really hope someone can find out what the cause is.

Chilli for dinner tonight, we are trying to live off the freezer for the run up to Christmas. There are 3 lamb shoulders in there!

Wishing you all a good day

Beauregard Wed 09-Dec-20 08:34:14

Good morning all from Derbyshire. Dry and cloudy here at the moment.

Christmas finally got a kick start here yesterday with the decs going up inside. I think we'll leave the outside tree this year due to problems with moving the half barrel it's in to its Christmas position to enable us to put the lights on it, so a wreath on the door will have to suffice. Present buying is coming along too, but still a fair way to go with that. I ought to write some cards soon.

Today DH wants to go a walk, which we will do, but I really need to spend some time sourcing a couple of oasis bases for the wreaths I'm going to make for my brothers funeral next week. Either a visit to The Range or see if I can get them on A....n prime.

Hope today is a good day for us all.

Stilllearning Wed 09-Dec-20 08:34:20

Another good morning from S Lanarkshire. I did most of my wrapping yesterday, a job I loathe because I don't have an artistic bone in my body so when I'm finished I have parcels, no creative touches which can make them so pretty. Unlike your window Ashcombe which was lovely.
I also spent a very very frustrating age on the phone to various young French people trying to sort out a mess of my own making re vouchers I had ordered for three of my daughters/sons in law. I became extremely cantankerous but did apologise before I ended the call(s). The last young man was lovely and said his mum was the same with technology which was probably a lie but succeeded in making me feel better. This living online has been so hard when it's not your forte, I feel so stupid and envy those who have been able to move with the times.
An outdoor visit to a poorly friend later if the rain stays away, good wishes to everyone.

Susan56 Wed 09-Dec-20 08:41:26

Good morning from a dry and bright Shropshire.

We need to pop into town this morning for a couple of things and then to the garden centre to return an outside clock. It has broken after only four months? We have only been into town a handful of times since March, last time we felt like we had been on a mini break!

So pleased that things are beginning to settle down for Iris and family☺️

So disappointing the roof is still leaking kitty.Well that’s the politest word I could come up with, you must be so fed up with it all?

Have a good day all and stay safe??

Greyduster Wed 09-Dec-20 08:47:57

Good morning, Michael and all GNs. It’s dry and reasonably bright in South Yorkshire. Mick I hope you’re feeling better, but I think we are all going to have to grit our teeth and bear this Christmas stoically. I thought we might be able to see our son during the Christmas Truce, but it seems not. My ear is still giving me gip and four days of ear drops are making it worse so I will stop using them. The doctor can’t speak to me until tomorrow, but I hope she’ll consent to look at it. I have to go out to pick up my new driving glasses today and do a few errands but then it will be a quiet day with maybe a short walk. Have the best day you can folks.

GrannySomerset Wed 09-Dec-20 08:55:06

Sharing the general sense of gloom after the excitement of yesterday and the vaccination. Struggling to find any reason to start the day and need to give myself a good shake. Ought to feel grateful about life rather than resentful so perhaps a walk will reset me. Wishing all Good Morningers have the best day possible.

Anniebach Wed 09-Dec-20 08:55:27

Good morning Auntyflo and all x

Gingster Wed 09-Dec-20 09:04:08

Good morning all from a very wet Esssex.

Sorry your roof is still leaking Kitty. So frustrating! Our conservatory roof is the same. Difficult to find where it’s coming through.

Felt very uncomfortable yesterday with itchy skin and non stop sneezing! Scratchy eyes too. I must be allergic to something! I took an anti histamine in the end and it has calmed down .

DH’s ear dressing came off in the night so he phoned the surgery at 9 o’clock. and got through almost immediately. The nurse saw him at 11.40 and he was home by 12 with ear redressed. First class treatment from the NHS. Bravo!

I’m having my hair done this afternoon, at hairdressers house. I always used to have cut, colour and blow dry and was there for 3 hours. Since the virus I e let the colour grow out and I’m quite white now. Everyone seems to like it (are they being kind) ? I’m still not sure but it saves me money and time. ?.

Wishing you all a pleasant day ??

Grandmafrench Wed 09-Dec-20 09:06:22

Good Morning everyone from a brilliantly sunny and blue......and extremely windy South of France, where bed linen is dancing around on the washing line and another load is about to join it.

Feel more human and positive today with my new haircut. I wear a full face mask which dips low under my eyes to try to minimise fogged up glasses. My hairdresser unhooks my ‘ear pieces’ and just tapes the edge of my mask to my face. Nothing then interferes with her cutting or shampooing. She was telling me a story when she’d finished and I was admiring her handiwork. With no warning, she ripped off the tape on one side as she talked and because I have quite a downy face, I yelled in surprise. For some reason....and possibly because you’re a nasty person, I told her.....this struck her as really funny. We both started laughing and she couldn’t stop! Tears were rolling down into her mask and she kept apologising and then getting hysterical. She was trying to tell me that most of her clients made a lot more fuss than me and I said, well of course - they’re French! The sole person at the other end of the salon then joined in with the laughter at that, before I had to brace myself for the tape removal on the other side of my face.

It actually hurt but was very funny and only proved, I think, how desperately we need something like that to allow us to just roar with laughter at something daft, to let go and revel in shared humour with others during these hard times. That human contact that we miss so much.

I shall hope that everyone gets their silly, mad moment today and a chance to release all the tensions and worries that dog our days.

And WHERE did that US (?) tv channel manage to find a 91 year old British gentleman to interview in London about his “inoculation” ? If you’ve not seen it.....do search. The elderly gent could have been lifted straight out of a 1940’s black and white film. The piece is only missing Piccadilly Circus as a backdrop! So, there must be Americans everywhere who will now think that Britain is filled with such old eccentrics and that we all sound and behave just the same.

This particular old eccentric is now going to plough through some work. It’s definitely going to be one of those days because I’ve already shouted ‘Morning love’ to my Son on my iPad when he phoned. Well, without glasses I can’t see the number and a very surprised Pool man told me that he’d like to return our serviced pump today. He roared (you see, we’re all at it!) after I’d apologised and explained. ‘Good Morning, Mummy’, he said.

Enough of this idle chat. Keep going with the decorations, GMers, stay positive, find those smiles - I need to give mine a little rest - and above everything, please stay safe and well.

Sending hugs and hope , Grammaretto ?

?‍♀️ Bye for now ?? ??

Nortsat Wed 09-Dec-20 09:20:39

Good morning Mick and the GM team from east London where it is grey and damp.
It was jolly cold yesterday and I returned from my walk feeling really chilled. I have cancelled a ‘soup and hot toddy’ lunch in a friends garden tomorrow. I just couldn’t manage it.

Today I am going to check out Hermes Parcel Drop which has sprung up in our local Off Licence. If. I can send my parcels from there and save my poor partner queuing up in the PO for me, I will be relieved.

So a day of parcel wrapping today. I put the decorations up yesterday and all went well but my ‘bridge of lights’ didn’t light up. It was an Ikea purchase some 20 years ago and has done good service. I ordered a replacement on Am***n and was advised that it would be delivered between 11th and 21st of January 2021...

Thinking of all of those, who are facing challenges.
Mattie pleased to hear that things are settling down for Iris, bless her.
GrannySomerset I hope you have a nice walk and that it helps to raise your spirits.
Marydoll I am sure you will make something delicious with the lamb, which will be even more delicious as it cost £1.81.
Thinking of gilly ... I wish we knew if all is well with her and her family.
Have a pleasant day all. ?

Bellasnana Wed 09-Dec-20 09:22:37

Good morning from Malta where it is a bright day but there’s a chilly wind blowing.

I have just returned from picking up my car from the garage where it was having minor surgery. I took a taxi there and had the most delightful driver, a young man from Amsterdam. I was quite sad when we arrived as I was enjoying our chat so much!

Had a doorstep visit from a lovely friend yesterday. She is very good at crafts and had made me a Christmas card. I will share it with you all as it gave me a laugh.

I’m feeling quite perky today which makes me wonder what disaster is waiting around the corner to take the wind out of my sails.

Thinking of you all and hoping for a good day for you.☀️

CherryCezzy Wed 09-Dec-20 09:24:02

Good morning everyone from a cloudy Gower. Hope the cloud hasn't and won't reach you Lins.

My WP is having the stitches in his hand taken out later this morning. Imo it still looks yukky but it is better than it was.
Beauregard I'm glad I'm not the only one who still has presents to buy and cards to write. We still haven't decorated our tree either ?. I do have a card that I must write and post today though or else my nephew2 won't even have a birthday card this year! Nephew1's birthday tomorrow but I sent his with my great nephews' cards when they had their birthdays last month.

Harrigran I hope your telephone consultation goes well today and kitty I really hope you get that leak in the hall sorted out soon. I'm not sure but I think we might have a very small issue with our roof as there is a dark patch developing on the landing ceiling. It's so high up it's hard to check, we'll have to "get a man in" to check it out.

My thoughts are still with you Grammaretto x

gillybob I don't know if you are still reading but if you are please let one of your GN friends know how you are. We do miss you.

Stay safe and warm everyone, find at least one ? today and be kind to yourselves ❤️

Gelisajams Wed 09-Dec-20 09:25:54

Good morning from Morecambe Bay where it has stopped raining for 5 minutes. I really do need webbed feet to live here. Strangely we frequently get most hours of sunshine on dry days in summer. It’s a funny part of the country for weather.
I made a pair of shorts for DGD yesterday. Today I will tackle the matching dress. It’s been cut out waiting for a few weeks.
We still have some Christmas presents to sort out. I much prefer looking for inspiration in shops than searching websites. Everything we had thought of yesterday was either sold out or not available in the size or colour we wanted. It was all in stock last week when we were still at the planning stage.
I need to get find a way to get in touch with a good friend. She’s feeling very down as something quite serious in her life has upset her. She told me by text and said she’s not feeling very chatty and is throwing herself into her work so she doesn’t have to think. I have sent messages saying I’m thinking of her and tried phoning, but she has ignored me for over a month now. I’m getting increasingly concerned and don’t know what to do. She lives 100 miles away. If we were not in tier 3 I’d just go round to the house with a bunch of flowers.
Take care and stay safe everyone ?

Grandmabatty Wed 09-Dec-20 09:35:08

Good morning All. Threatening clouds and rain outside in Polmont. I'm having a quiet morning as I get dgs for the afternoon. He hasn't seen any of the decorations so it'll be interesting how long they last! Mick it's a very different Christmas ahead for many. Hopefully it will have changed by next year. Grandmattie good to hear that things are settling down for your dgd. Ashcombe the torbay sole was lovely. I have another piece for today. And my apologies for not commenting on the beautiful window from yesterday. Marydoll we are moving to tier 2, goodness knows why. However my son lives in a tier 3 and so do my aunt and uncle. I'm still not sure what Christmas will bring for family. Kittylester how annoying and depressing! Particularly when you hoped it was fixed. Grandmafrench ouch! So a facial treatment as well as a haircut! Not what you were expecting at all. You made me laugh though. I'm still waiting on the doctor's surgery rescheduling my appointment. I'm assuming she is still off work. It must be hard for them to juggle everyone so I'm not going to be cross just yet. See you tomorrow.

GrannyOwl5 Wed 09-Dec-20 09:45:12

Good morning everyone from north Kent where it is raining. Hoping it will improve later today as planning on having a walk along the seafront to blow away the cobwebs.

Nothing very interesting planned apart from tidying around after putting up the Christmas deccs yesterday; feels like it was only a couple of weeks ago that they were going up in the attic after last Christmas. Will probably do some washing later this morning after a gallop round with the hoover - I am always astonished at the exciting life I lead!

Hope you all have a good Wednesday. Stay safe

BlueSapphire Wed 09-Dec-20 09:52:03

Hello and good morning to everyone from a grey and damp Northampton. Just glad that I don't have to go out.

Posted all my cards yesterday, and then visited the hairdressers for a cut and blowdry. Have decided to embrace the grey and think that if I don't like it I can always go back to colour and highlights. Doesn't look too bad though.

Got DS's partner a voucher for the hairdressers/beauty salon for Christmas and also a posh expensive candle. I also visited the cashpoint for the first time since lockdown! The money I had in my purse then has lasted me till now. I had also forgotten my PIN because I hadn't used my card since March so asked the bank last week for a new one. Glad to say it worked. I only really use cash to pay the window cleaner, but I do like to have a little in the house. I also need some to give my paper boy his Christmas tip.

Expecting a couple of parcels today, and Sainsbury's is delivering this afternoon. Could not get a delivery slot for next week so have ordered extra this week to keep me going.

Hoping today treats us well. Stay safe everyone.

Annapops Wed 09-Dec-20 10:03:27

Good morning from a brighter County Durham.
The rain yesterday was relentless, however it did not stop DD 1 with little GD 2 decorating our local picnic area tree. We brought baubles from home this year (normally I would be creating environmently friendly ones with all GC involved but due to covid....!).
Whilst busy a lovely lady approached with a bagful of crocheted decorations she had intended for a fairy glen elsewhere. "I can easily make more," she stated as she handed Angel's, santas and snowmen over to a delighted GD.
Such kindness brought such happiness to us all as that rain continued to lash down.
Take a look as I share our tree with you. I hope it brings some cheer to your day as it did for us and hopefully others who pass by it during the days to come.

Annapops Wed 09-Dec-20 10:09:43

Our tree, with love to you all. X

Blossoming Wed 09-Dec-20 10:43:59

Good morning all, another damp day here. No exciting plans for the day, apart from doing all the floors with my new rubber broom grin I also have some cards to write and presents to address as they can’t be dropped off this year. We always spend Christmas Day just the 2 of us at home, but usually get to see most of our extended family in the weeks before and after.

Stay safe and warm all.

Taichinan Wed 09-Dec-20 10:53:34

Good morning from a very still, brightish, clearish Angus. We too are about to move back down to Level 2 on Friday, but as we can't travel into different Levels it makes little difference - we're surrounded by Level 3 or the North Sea! And I still can't get to M&S so I think I shall sulk!
I took my itchy skin to the Pharmacist yesterday and came away with creams and antihistamine tablets. They seemed to be doing the trick and I lay in bed reading and happily anticipating sleep. BUT - the minute I turned over ready to drop off, back it came with ferocity. I ended up taking some Neurofen again. I shall persevere for the prescribed week though as cures aren't usually instant! ?+?
I've enjoyed reading everyone's posts as usual. Grandmattie I'm so glad little Iris is doing better now. It's going to be such a long haul for her but children are amazingly resilient. Times will get better.
Grammaretto I was so pleased to read yesterday that you are going to spend Christmas with your DD, especially as your DS is now back in NZ. Have you any plans to go there for a visit?
Ashcombe I am sure you will find that you do still have "it"! All those walks on the Downs will have seen to that.
So sorry your leaky ceiling saga continues Kitty. Flat roofs (and conservatory ones) are notorious when it comes to difficult-to-trace leaks, and I know from bitter experience how fedupifying it can be. But New Year, New Solution ?
I have no plans for today other than to achieve something, which will be a step in the Christmas direction!
Please enjoy your day everyone and let's all smile through. ???

Gwenisgreat1 Wed 09-Dec-20 10:55:09

Good Morning all from dry Harrogate.
Yesterday after a very bad night, I was like death warmed up!!
Today I have finally plucked up courage to have my hair cut!! So it should be a new me this pm.
Christmases just wont be the same, hope you all manage to find a way of enjoying the season, can be a very lonely time. That's our car off the road again, the mechanic says it is not used enough - DH seems to think it's an ornament in the drive, he thought he was saving money - instead it will cost plenty.
The new TV I bought from JL last month ceased towork and I was less than impressed with JL reaction. Yesterday I was all set to ask for a refund, but decided to ask a competitor if they had a similar model. Instead the competitor talked me though getting the TV working!!!! I know where we will buy the next TV!!

Hope today brings a bit of cheer to all

Pantglas2 Wed 09-Dec-20 11:04:20

A later good morning all from a dry grey north Wales- I’ve been up and about for hours, in case you thought I’d been lolling abed ? ?

Your tale of facial fuzz removal was hilarious ?grandma French and a freebie as well! Hope your ceiling gets fixed Kitty and those lamb shoulders in the freezer NannyJan? You’ll be needing my help in scoffing those, I’ll trot along with some Spanish garlic and Welsh rosemary ?

Stay safe for Santa ? x
