I know how much we all hate the thought of a home. Is there any where upmarket nearby where you could book yourself in for respite care? That would give you a chance to try it out before you decide and give you longer to sort out your options.

ann. Not sure if this will help. If you have a Morrisons within 10 miles they have a telephone ordering system for older or disabled people. Its 0345 611 6111, option 5 once connected. It can be quire a wait in a queue but once through a pleasant person (usually!) takes your order, it is usually delivered to the doorstep the next day. Payment is by contactless card on delivery. Used to be free, now there is an optional £1.50 charge. Good for basics and within reason anything sold in the store. Hope your granddaughter's test is negative, I do know what a worying wait it can be.

Can add nothing to other people's thoughts galen so apologies for repetition. If the surgery doesn't respond please do try 111, it should work. There are many options other than a home, don't consign yourself to one unnecessarily. Independent living with extra care availability works for some. While understanding you not wanting to burden your daughter I know if I were her I'd be pretty cross if I found out you were keeping such news from me. But then I'm a grumpy whatsit

Galen - so sorry to hear that this last fall seems to have undermined your confidence.
As Kittysays, a good care home might not be as bad as you think. I was involved with caring for my Mum in her last active years, and I'm glad of that as we made up for lost time. Even so she was always anxious about her aches and pains, paying bills, finances etc.
Then she had a stroke. We offered her to stay with us but she said no. Eventually we found a lovely care home where she became a different person, free from all anxiety.

Galen that's excellent news about your test result and the gp visit. I urge you to let your daughter know though. Annsixty I hope your dgd is okay. ?.

Hello everybody, thanks for asking. I have an appointment to see my doctor tomorrow. x

There is much gloom, uncertainty and poorliness now and so I’m putting something on the side for all visitors here to enjoy.
It’s not to eat (it’s nearly time for tea) but it is all the smells of Christmas in a candle, and some fresh flowers.
I hope soop will be back before we need new flowers.

galen, it must be Christmas - a negative test and a gp visit. Topsy's idea of respite care is a good one. Didn't you do that once before? And, please tell your daughter - she will worry less knowing you are safe!!

Ann, using Morrison's is a good idea of Corner's. Also some Co-ops offer similar service. I hope your dgd just has a flipping bad cough!

Urms hope you are ok and that your husband is more comfortable, doodle.

Next time round would someone remind me not to have 5 children, 4 in laws and 9 grandchildren - the wrapping is horrendous!!

Galen I have just ready about your fall, I’m so sorry. You must be quite shocked.
Charleygirl I managed to have a long chat with a charming and lovely lady from the pain management team today. It appears she left notes for the doctors for recommendations over the weekend, none of which were auctioned, she has visited DH twice today, upped his meds and sorted out the nursing team with getting him some additional help too. It turns out he could have had his pain relief meds every 2 hours if only they had asked him.
Galen I echo what Kitty said. My son told me in no uncertain terms that he was a grown man with family of his own and he wanted to know what was going on. He didn’t need protecting and was more worried if he thought I was hiding things than he would be if he knew I was telling him everything. Good your COVID result is negative and the GP is coming

Thanks puzzler he is a bit more comfortable tonight now his meds have been upped.

If anyone wants to use the Morrison’s doorstep service an email has popped up to say it’s unavailable on 24th and starts again on 27th. Orders can be phoned through on 26th.

Poor soop - so much to catch up with. On the positive side, she’s had all that empty time to get ready for Christmas and will be able to sit and catch up with the kitchen! McSporran can keep her supplied with tea and mince pies ?

Yes corner I am more hopeful.
Urms many of us have been kitcheners for several years. Dear soop has trained us all well.
Everyone is welcome. We have no nastiness, no politics, no unkindness, just genuine caring and support for everyone in the kitchen. Plus some wonderful humour, cakes, cats, dogs, children, sunsets and just being here for each other.
soop is a wonderful lady (married to the wonderful MacSporron) but with a slightly norty streak ?. Can’t wait till she’s back.

Doodle I take back all I said about the pain team! He is better off staying an extra day or two in hospital to get it properly sorted. Before he is discharged please ask for a plan B if God forbid anything should go wrong over the holiday period.

Galen have you thought of employing somebody maybe at HCA level, to live in? A lot depends on what you need help with and when to keep costs down. If you only need help during the day and can cope during the night- that would be infinitely cheaper. There is nothing like one's own home- I cherish mine.

Amazon apparently came before 7.30 am today- I was asleep and did not hear the doorbell. I was up 15 minutes later and he rang and then delivered before 8 am. I did not think they started quite so early- I was so grateful he returned, having rung me to make sure I was up/at home.

I have another package coming from Amazon today- why they could not be delivered together is beyond me. They are so efficient in every other way. Moan over.

I have all the delivery people well trained, I have a porch which I leave unlocked during the day.
They all, including the Royal Mail parcel lady, leave them there then close the door ,ring the doorbell and walk away, we wave through the window.
Little bit cross yesterday as the pharmacy who deliver my prescription came and left a card, they had been taken back to the shop as I didn’t answer the door.
I was yards from the door and certainly would have heard the bell or a loud knock.

Moan over, Good morning all.
Still waiting for my GD’s results, she is a bit worse this morning, almost certainly has a throat infection.

The sun is shining and I am waiting for a call from physio at the hospital where I had my op.
Will be discharged I presume.
