Morning Mick, morning All. Sky clearing in our corner of Somerset, hope for a walk today. Spent a good bit of the night catching up with tv courtesy of the iPad. Some air will do me good I think.

Please take it easy today marydoll, do you need some medical advice? More fabulous sewing grandMattie, I’m sure Iris will be delighted. You’re not the only one preferring a cash machine inside a bank ashcombe, seems sensible to us. Good luck with the car insurance Bellasnanna, tedious isn’t it? Please stop thinking of yourself as a wimp, you certainly are not. Kitchen envy here jaxjacky.

Really must try and stir or we’ll go nowhere. Take care everyone, hope there’s something to make you smile today.

Nortsat Thu 17-Dec-20 08:36:48

Good morning Mick and the GM team from east London where it’s relatively mild.

Lovely bespoke fashion trousers GM.
Lovely tree Lins, can you get a photo of your antique Nativity ornament to show us tomorrow? I would love to see it. 1/9 was probably a lot of money then.
V stylish kitchen Jax.
Ginster thanks for the reminder about Portrait Artist of the Year, I have a couple of episodes to catch up on. I really enjoy the programme.

We are having a new boiler fitted today, so the house is in uproar and my partner is flying around acting as ‘plumbers mate’!

Hope we all have a good day. We still don’t seem to have heard from MellowYellow and I often think of gilly. ?

Pittcity Thu 17-Dec-20 08:36:48

Good morning from sunny Colchester. Dry, mild and still today.
DS is home from the Navy for Christmas this afternoon, so the beds need changing and the larder needs stocking.
Jay's online quiz with the family this evening.

Grammaretto Thu 17-Dec-20 08:39:21

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. It's not cold but still not light. I don't think it will get light today so I must remember to take vitamin D.
I'm looking forward to the Star of Bethlehem next week marking the shortest day.
I'll be going for a walk and coffee (in a cafe as there is no socialising inside houses)
This pandemic is real. Since FiL died with covid at the weekend I have heard of 2 more deaths amongst my own acquaintances.
Your sewing skills are terrific grandMattie . Was that pre new specs?
How lovely to have a new kitchen in time for Christmas Jax I am not jealous at all
I wish my ceiling could have been repaired.
Have as good a day as you can everyone.

Hello and good morning from a bright Northampton. We are promised a dry sunny day, but it feels chilly at the moment. Have just discovered that the paper boy has delivered the wrong paper- I expect one of the neighbours has mine, but I don't like to ring them at this time of the morning in case they are having a lie-in. Will wait till about nine, and then try.

Will try and make a start on the wrapping today; didn't get any done yesterday, I'm afraid the Agatha Christie book called, as I was getting near the end of it, and I wanted to find out 'who dunnit'. As usual it was the last person I expected. I have now reached the end of DD's stock of Christie, so need to find something else. I said I would get the next books on the list, but she is insisting on getting them herself.

Lovely Christmas tree, Lins, and a very smart kitchen Jax. My cats have not bothered with the tree at all luckily. I did have visions of them climbing it and pulling it over!

Take care and stay safe everyone.

brook2704 Thu 17-Dec-20 08:43:14

Good morning everyone from Inverness, a bit late for me posting but I didn’t wake up until gone 8am - really unusual for me! Anyhow it’s just light now and looks like it’s dry with a light grey sky so it could do anything later
I had a really good day yesterday, we were out for tea celebrating DGD birthday it was lovely with the little ones very well behaved which makes all the difference!
Today I’m looking forward meeting my friend and we’re going for a festive lunch at a local hotel - makes a change from our usual coffee and cake at the garden centre! I’m going to get dressed up a bit with something sparkly ....
Thinking of everyone today facing worries and struggles, hope you both have a better day today marydoll and bellasnanna
Lovely kitchen jax well done and love the tree Lins
Take care everyone and take care whatever the day brings ?

Stilllearning Thu 17-Dec-20 08:45:42

Meant to say, lovely kitchen Jaxjacky, enjoy!

Grandmafrench Thu 17-Dec-20 08:52:21

Good Morning everyone from South of France where sun’s half up - better than me! I’ve seriously overslept on the day when I needed to be up and at ‘em! ?. This will now be followed by a number of bad words ? and some serious tail-chasing! Just wanted to wish you all a day in which everyone finds a moment of joy, calm and a smile.....

See you tomorrow. Meanwhile STAY SAFE. ? Hugs and good wishes to all. ?‍♀️?????

baubles Thu 17-Dec-20 08:53:23

Good morning Mick, morning everyone. It’s dreich here in S Lanarkshire again, no idea if there’s to be any improvement today.

I really would have to read the posts with pen and paper to hand in order to be able to comment on everyone’s comings and goings. Suffice to say that I’m thinking of you all, admiring your handiwork, your kitchens, your DGC and your pets. tchgrintchwink

Those of you with health problems, worries, and sorrows are very much in my thoughts today especially Grammaretto and Beauregard. thanks

I’m going back to read all the posts now. Wishing everyone as good a day as possible. .

Alygran Thu 17-Dec-20 08:54:31

Good morning from North Yorkshire. The sun is shining in a clear sky ?
Off for a socially distanced walk with a friend this morning then if it’s dried up a bit I will pick up the rest of the leaves in the garden.
Love Iris’ new clothes. She will be delighted.
Marydoll take it very easy today. Thinking of you flowers
Hope today is kind to everyone. Stay safe.

Greyduster Thu 17-Dec-20 08:54:56

Good morning, Michael and all GNs. It shaping up to be a clear dry day in South Yorkshire, but boy, it’s cold! I have to sort out a final present for DD today, then my work is done! It’s been a struggle not only for me this year but my SiL has been scratching his head too. Other than that, a quiet day in prospect (aren’t they all, one way or another? Considering we do so little, this week has flown by!). Have a good safe day, folks.

Anniebach Thu 17-Dec-20 08:56:05

Good morning Auntyflo and all x

Gelisajams Thu 17-Dec-20 09:00:34

Yay! It’s dry In Morecambe Bay this morning for a change. Not that it will last beyond today.
Good morning everyone.
I’m very impressed with GM’s sewing. It puts mine to shame! I finished GD’s dress and shorts yesterday, but I’m not terribly happy with them. I think I will pop down to Kent for some lessons. wink I do quite a bit of crafting, but I’m ‘a Jack of all trades’ rather than a specialist. Anyway it’s finished and the room tidied up. I won’t start anything else until the New Year.
I expect we will stay in tier 3. Our cases here were lower than Cumbria which was tier 2, but we had to be included with Lancashire. Tier 3 or not, our cases locally have crept up so I’m not expecting any change. It won’t make much difference to me personally as we will continue to keep away from people until we get a vaccine.
My iCloud download has brought back photos I’d long since forgotten about. It was good to look back and see the GC playing rather than now when they have themselves buried in their phones and tablets.
Take care and stay safe everyone ?

Susan56 Thu 17-Dec-20 09:02:17

Good morning from Shropshire.

The little terror Henry is on his way.The divine Miss M is coming too as school broke up yesterday. She says she is staying for seven days?

We will be using zoom tonight for the first time as M has online Rainbows.

Marydoll, please rest and take it easy today.

Lins, your tree is lovely and how fantastic to have an ornament with such a family history.I too was wondering what 1/9 would be in today’s money. The new rules in Wales mean there is no chance of us seeing DH’s parents, nearly a year now since we have seen them.

grandMattie, the trousers are lovely and the knickers are a work of art too.

Bellasnanna, I usually go on Compare the Meerkat for car insurance, then phone my current insurer to say I have a better deal and often they will match it.Have last years insurance certificate with you when you are filling out the forms as they ask for all sorts of information.Good luck!

Jax,I have kitchen envy!

Doodle, hope Mr D had a comfortable night and that you are able to see him today.

Have a good day all and stay safe.??

Mapleleaf Thu 17-Dec-20 09:04:33

Good morning all,

Greyduster has our forecast spot on. It looks set to be a much brighter and drier day than yesterday.

Pilates class this morning - the last before Christmas. I must try to ensure I do some practice before class resumes again in January.

Pleased to report that I finished wrapping all the presents yesterday - I just had a couple that I was waiting to be delivered, so that’s a job done and dusted.

Another lovely tree today, Lins and a nice new kitchen jaxjacky. You must be p,eased that time t is all finished for Christmas.

Well, I must go and finish setting up for my class.
Take care ?

Mapleleaf Thu 17-Dec-20 09:05:56

That should say “you must be pleased that it is all finished in time for Christmas”. The gremlins are out to play ?.

Grandmabatty Thu 17-Dec-20 09:19:09

Popping back to send ? to Marydoll and ask her to do nothing today.

Urmstongran Thu 17-Dec-20 09:24:32

Good morning everyone from South Manchester where it’s dry and seems mild at 11°C. Similar to Malta really Bellasnana but we won’t be going any higher I daresay!

Going out later (when I can peel myself away from this iPad - Himself calls it my arm extension cheeky bugger) for bit & bobs. The shops are just downstairs in the lift anyway! Pick up boots from the cobbler, nip into the post office, then into Boots Chemist to collect my stepfather’s Christmas present. Himself had the marvellous idea of ordering him a jigsaw on line made up from one of our digital photos. Brilliant! He’ll love it - it was taken about 5y ago of him and my mum at a celebration birthday in Spain. Lots of colour and happy memories for him as he puts it together. Not easy buying something for an 88y old man.

harrigran you know us lot as friends for starters and any birthday wishes would total around 60 before you even move out of your chair! Marydoll what can I say? No wonder you’ll be exhausted and anxious a bit. I do hope your angina has settled - rest up now please. Lins great tree and how amazing the puppy isn’t interested in it!

Right - time for my second cuppa. Himself is a bit slow this morning - you just can’t get the staff these days can you? I rang him on his mobile from my bed and he laughed when I said ‘is the kettle broken?’.
????

Hope Thursday is good to us all. Thinking of gillybob as ever this time of day. I know we all miss her very much. Wonder if Manchester will come down into T3 tonight? Hope so, it means we can eat out as booked restaurant dinner on Christmas Day. If not I’d better put these on a low light later today ....

Keep safe everyone that’s the main thing. x

Ps great you came over into soops last night corner. Anyone else ready to join us newbies?

HeyHo Thu 17-Dec-20 09:36:27

.....and the sun is shining here on the Devon/Somerset border. Himself has gone off for a little bike ride, hoping to be back before the bus to the nearby town. With his dementia - this could be doubtful! He is at the stage where he thinks he is fine, but everyone else knows he isn't........ makes for an interesting life.
Hopefully I will go out this morning for a coffee with my daughter, and another of our chats about her recent marriage breakdown -

But it's a lovely day, as I say, in these here hills. I noticed some crocus beginning to peep through the soil yesterday. and hopefully at some point today I will get to do some watercolour painting - teaching oneself is a little hazardous I am discovering.......

this is my first post on this thread hence the ramble!

LauraNorder Thu 17-Dec-20 09:39:03

Woke up earlier than usual and came straight to the end for one of Pants Aberfalls gin and orange marmalade cocktail, I know, I’m shameless.
Oh yes, nearly forgot, good morning Mick and all from dry, calm Anglesey.
The auction for the house next door started yesterday evening and will close at 1.30 today, I’ll let you know how much it goes for Urms, and you’re right, I can pop in and out when I wake earlier and also join in at soops kitchen which does look jolly inviting with food and drink too.
Will now read the thread and pop back later.

MawBe Thu 17-Dec-20 09:42:36

Good morning all - a second go at waking up, frustrated by Hattie wanting out at 5.30 - too early to get up but too late to go back to sleep so I read for a bit, nodded off and now have a thick head!
Anyway, it is lovely and sunny, a huge improvement on yesterday’s rain so I will get out, deliver the last 3 village cards, return a couple of parcels via the Hermes drop off shop and then.....what?
Mick am I being obtuse, but please enlighten me , what is a “pre build” ? Racking my brains but feeling less than bright!
Too many interesting posts to comment on but wish you all a gentle day.

Urmstongran Thu 17-Dec-20 09:43:11

I see President Macron has tested positive for Covid Grandmafrench.
? ??

brook2704 Thu 17-Dec-20 09:51:55

A very warm welcome HeyHo ? I hope you enjoy this wonderfully friendly thread and become a regular visitor!

Urmstongran Thu 17-Dec-20 09:54:58

A huge welcome to you HeyHo! It’s always lovely to welcome newbies to this bestest thread of Mick’s. Enjoy your coffee with your daughter. Mum’s always have the best listening ears don’t they?

Btw you omitted to tell us the value of your ? (a la the Daily Mail). It’s very important piece of information.
?

EllanVannin Thu 17-Dec-20 10:22:30

Good Morning All x
Lovely and sunny so far which gives you the oomph to get things done. Slept the sleep of the just last night and woke at 10 to 8, a fab night.

Last of the cards to go off today---in the hope that none of them have died. These are school friends, past neighbours and one I trained at hospital with.

I'll be phoning D today about the Covid cases that were found on the Stena ferry to Belfast, which didn't leave from here. 6 of the cabin crew had been infected and another 15 somewhere. I'll be bothered about her calling, just in case. This is all getting on my nerves now as I want my Christmas food next week. Even if I'd had my vaccination I wouldn't be covered until after Christmas.

Ah well, I can make the mince pies today and get them out of the way. There'll be just me eating them but that won't be a problem. grin

Marydoll, I'm assuming that you have a Nitro-spray ? They do help if you have a spray before you know you're going to be stressed out . I do feel for you. x

I'm sitting tight for delayed deliveries and yesterday was listening out for one for my neighbour as she had to go out so left me the message. Needless to say nothing arrived after the company telling her it would be yesterday for delivery and I was scared to use the hoover in case I missed him.

Lovely trees and kitchens. The kitchen colour gave me an idea to tell D for when she has her big job done next year, it's lovely and her kitchen is massive so hopefully the end result will look as lovely. She's having a " middle " bit ( forgot what you call them )

Must get cracking seeing that I didn't hoover yesterday, so take care all and stay safe whatever you do. Thoughts to our Gilly and to those who aren't feeling up to scratch. xx
