What are you hoping for from Santa?

Hello Everyone tchsmile
I'm shamelessly asking for last minute present inspiration for both myself and DH.

I know that he really wants to exchange gifts this year (even though I choose them myself.)
I only shop online, which is just as well...

I had my eye on a Swarovski bracelet but it's now it's out of stock (I have a feeling that they do this with sale items at this time of year.)

So, what are you hoping for in your stocking?
(Obviously, a vaccine and smooth Brexit go without saying!)

Thank you all tchsmileflowers

My DH has no idea how to do online shopping and we're not going to real shops, so I have done my own present-buying on Santa's behalf. I am getting an M&S nightie, nice chocs and 4 books - Shadowplay by Joseph O'Connor, a couple of Provincial Lady books and an Indonesian cookery book.

DD2 has probably bought me more books, chocolates and posh perfume, as she often does. DD1, who is in the US, has had a big Fortnum and Mason box delivered to us, so that should have some goodies inside.

All lovely, but what I would really like is to be with the grandkids when they open their presents. Not possible with the 4 in the US, of course, but normally we could be with the 3 who are here. Oh well. At least we can watch them on WhatsApp.

mollygo can we go shares on the bag for Laura watsernames head? I would also like to slip some happy pills into the BBCs drinks. DH put the radio on the other day and the news bulletin came on. I couldn't believe how positive and hopeful and reasonable it all sounded. Then I realised it was Classic FM and not the BBC. A friend of mine has given up with the BBCs negativity and now only watches Channel 4 news.

GrammarGrandma

I would like Santa to cancel Brexit and make the Covid vaccine widely available.

.....thread says specifically “vaccine and smooth Brexit goes without saying”

Last year I bought my DH for his birthday ( Christmas Eve) a brand new very expensive waxed Barbour to replace the incredibly tatty one he has worn for years and years. For Christmas I got him an expensive banjolele. He plays the ukulele and had kept saying how much he would like a banjolele. Neither have been used once. I got off DH a pair of green Barbour wellies. Which I have worn three times. So this year we have gone joint. We now have a CD player (surprisingly hard to find), two bottles of Fynoderee gin from the Isle of Man, and a large box of chocolates from Hotel Chocolat. Can't wait to get into them, especially as I know one of our children has bought DH the new Neil Diamond CD.

All the things I would like are sadly unattainable.
Yesterday the 2 GS were showing me their Christmas tree. Beside it was a huge square box and I jokingly said ‘oooh is that big one for me?’ We looked at the label, and it was. shock. I’m equally excited/worried about its contents! Just what comes in a box that big .......?

I know what one of my gifts is (because I helped Santa order it). A rear basket for my bicycle. Next spring you will see me whizzing by on my black electric bike, wearing a red helmet off to do groceries, or going to work. Well, you may not see me since I am thousands of miles from you all, but if you can imagine...

Marmight that is exciting!
I do hope that it's not that 'tiny box inside a big box' thing.
Promise to come back and tell us!

Thanks Lucca, we can only do our best ...

It's a dog, Marmight, a big dog!!

Froglady Tue 22-Dec-20 08:38:23

I would love some books for my Kindle but my sister has already told me she won't be buying me any; although she would buy me a 'tree' book - what's the difference? At least with a Kindle book you don't need to wrap it, post it or stuff like that. Don't get it at all.

Marmight Tue 22-Dec-20 09:29:50

I wondered that FC. Something to keep me occupied while everyone opens their huge piles! It’s certainly not a dog Kitty even a full size toy one; DD is not a dog lover. I’ll try and give the box a shoogle when no one is looking, although I’ll be hard pressed to get my arms round it - and I have long arms grin.

FannyCornforth Tue 22-Dec-20 09:40:18

A shoggle! tchgrinI've not heard of that!

BlueSapphire Tue 22-Dec-20 17:53:35

helen2020 have had my Omega serviced and repaired already at a cost of around £400 each time it goes in! This time I thought I'd stop spending out on repairs and get a new one. My old one will be kept in my jewellery box as a precious memento of late DH and our 'time' together.

Greyduster Tue 22-Dec-20 18:16:04

Nothing except what everyone else wishes for - a light at the end of this covid tunnel. But I wouldn’t say no to a couple of books and a box of chocolate liqueurs.
Kitty, my DIL bought DS a saxophone a few years ago - we definitely needed ear plugs!! Oddly enough, we got rid of an old laptop today which still had a video on it of him doing his party piece. It hasn’t improved with age!!?

Maggiemaybe Tue 22-Dec-20 18:28:49

I’d quite like the blue fair isle jumper I spotted online a few weeks ago, and DH would like the red running shoes, ditto. I’m fairly optimistic we’ll both get what we want as I’ve already bought them and taken delivery, and wrapped the shoes.

This isn’t how it usually is, but we’re all saving our secret Santa money this year for a big family outing together when we get out of this long dark tunnel.

FannyCornforth Wed 23-Dec-20 07:48:12

BlueCat your present buying technique is exactly the same as mine. That way you get exactly what you want and DH gets none of the stress.
I'm a big ^Provincial Lady fan too!
I only discovered her this year. I've got most of the books on Audible. They are beautifully read by Georgina Sutton. I will be listening to the Wartime one in the next few days.
MawB I looked at the Turtle Doves website on your recommendation. The handwarmers in particular look lovely. Unfortunately I can't wear anything that's wool - even cashmere. It itches me like mad, even if it is something like 5%.
Apropos of wool - I was listening to Farming Today yesterday, and apparently the world's finest mohair is made in England.

DH home from hospital and making a good recovery.

FannyCornforth Thu 24-Dec-20 07:45:46

M0nicaflowers I hope so too. Any news, if you don't mind me asking?

M0nica Thu 24-Dec-20 08:00:34

*FannyCornforth, Thank you, Well, he is now definitely getting better and on an upward slope. He had a heart attack, and bypass surgery, which has been successful, but then picked up an infection, which got into the wound, necessitating 3 further ops. But, as I said, he is getting better now and the doctors now breeze in and out of his room at speed because he no longer has problems to interest them, just got to get strong enough to be discharged.

FannyCornforth Thu 24-Dec-20 08:03:31

Gosh, he has been through it.
He's done very well. Ah, I bet you can't wait to get him home, I hope that you are together very soon x

allsortsofbags Mon 28-Dec-20 17:59:01

FannyCornforth you asked what we made with the Magimix :-)

I made a salmon mouse on Boxing Day to use up cream and salmon, it turned out well so happy with that.

Yesterday DH made bread, it was lovely so it's now his job to be bread maker :-)

It was making bread that saw off my old mixer so it was a bit of a test but the Magimix was more than up to the job.
