Reading throught the threads this morning made me wonder if I should start a chatty thread, one that hopefully everyone could join in if they wished to do so.

As the Good Morningers know, after a lot of hassle with a blocked credit card, ( not me fault!), I bought a Santa lantern from Dobbies in their sale to replace one that I had, which had died.
When Santa arrived, he was leaning drunkenly against the glass, having had too much sherry on his rounds. There was no way I could fix it, as the unit was sealed.
I phoned Dobbies' customer service and got a very helpful young man, who mistakenly thought my name was Lady Marydoll I could visualise him bowing! I was going to wait to tell you all later that I have been given a seat in the House of Lords in the New Year's Honours list tchwink

We had a good laugh, when I tried to spell my email address using the phonetic alphabet, because I was hoarse and he was having difficulty with my Glasgow accent.

Anyway, I got a full refund without any hassle and the added bonus, I get to keep Santa!! tchgrin

That simple exchange has really cheered me up. It may have started out with a simple request for a refund I didn't need to even ask in the end, but it became a social interaction with someone other than my DH.
I love him dearly, but oh I do need some other company! I'm now waiting to waylay the postman for a chat!

I've managed successfully to download an app from my credit card provider, without which I won't be able to manage my account as they're closing access via the website in January.

It was worrying me no end as I couldn't get it to work when I tried before Christmas.

So huge relief!

One of my GDs her partner and Mason their child all tested negative for COVID, they were notified someone at the nursery was positive.

Walking past greengrocers in Twickenham I saw that they had Seville oranges! Hooray! I make about 40 plus pounds every year, (my breakfast is always toast and marmalade.) I have just finished the last jar. Guess what I'm doing this afternoon?!

I had a letter from United Utilities (water people) to say I had been over paying for the 3 yrs since my meter was changed and they are going to refund me just over £1k after they found the new meter was faulty.Such a nice surprise.

Oh yes, D3 has just sent me a short WhatsApp vid of littlest fella’s first words (today)
Not Mummy or Daddy or even “Hey Google” but “Get down”
Can’t stop playing and replaying it ????

Heard today that my very poorly son who has Covid is at last beginning to feel a little better, I am weeping tears of joy.

I got an email from a company telling me she could keep the second parcel they sent my mum in error.
Unfortunately not a diamond necklace but a cosy wrap for her wheelchair.
Useful when she becomes incontinent! She was not amused when my sister said as much ???

grandMattie Tue 29-Dec-20 16:33:35

We've had wonderful news regarding my little DGD, who had an operation earlier this month. Her bad/broken/bent leg is nearly straight, she is moving around on crutches rather than wheelchair, etc. All terrific!

DH is rehanging curtain pole that fell down two days before Christmas. In my book that is something to be cheerful about - it's nigh on a miracle.

I can't believe my phone typed two nephews what are in their 30s! Blooming phone.

I managed to cook a ‘fairly edible’ Christmas Dinner for DH and I. Cooking is certainly not my strong point, DD has always done it from age 10 as before that we would just have a picnic in the lounge or pasta!!
DH ate the lot and he is a fussy boy??

I left a load of books out on my front garden step with a sign: “Free, help yourself”. Later I found a box of chocolates beautifully presented and a lovely card from a complete stranger addressed to “ The Book Lady” thanking me for my generosity and saying how much she would enjoy my books. Very heart warming.

We usually spend Christmas Day with my sister, brother-in-law, two nephews what are in their 30s. Not this year unfortunately.
At about 12.30 today the doorbell rang and the four of them were outside with plastic wine glasses, wine and antibacterial wipes! We had a distanced drink. Fabulous.

BBbevan Fri 25-Dec-20 14:57:03

Just had a lovely socially distanced outside Christmas drink ( bring your own) with our neighbours. Brilliant and a good laugh.

tanith Thu 24-Dec-20 22:59:30

A neighbour opposite who I don’t really know well knocked with her young son and gave me a card and a box of organic truffles saying we’d like you to enjoy these. Quite made my day.

Surprise driveway visit fron DS2. He brought his 2 eldest with him ( 7 and 5) and they had made me a calendar for next year. We will miss seeing the whole family on Boxing Day but so be it.
After dinner we did Secret Santa ( maximum£2 ) with the grandchildren who are living with us. For the second year running GS1 who has autism managed to pick himself from the hat. He has no concept of putting it back and picking again and delighted in buying himself exactly what he wanted and wrapping it up.It gave us a laugh.

Did gift exchanges with three lots of friends on doorsteps and a quick chat, saw one DD briefly, and had phone calls and emails from other friends.Lunch with family tomorrow and all looking forward to it.?

Whitewavemark2 Thu 24-Dec-20 20:46:11

Did the rounds delivering all the presents to the family and having a chat on the doorsteps. Had a coffee and mince pies with son and DIL ( our bubble) and then walked in the cold.
Lovely to see everyone before we go into lockdown.

Sarahmob Thu 24-Dec-20 20:35:51

FannyCornforth it was about 42 hours and felt like forever.

Auntieflo Thu 24-Dec-20 20:24:51

1/ SIL came and brought presents from GS.
2/ A neighbour and her husband, knocked and distantly chatted this morning. He is recovering from a stroke and looked well.
3/ DD phoned and chatted for half an hour.
4/ Another neighbour knocked this evening with a gift of traditional Romanian cake and pastries. Delicious.

Kate1949 Thu 24-Dec-20 15:05:03

Our lovely granddaughter and her equally lovely boyfriend have just been to the door for a distanced chat. smile

My something nice for today was finding a book I love, but that’s now out of print, is available on my kindle!
