Good Morning Everyone,
Its dark, and looks dry and cold outside here in Brackley this morning.
Today , do a small shop this morning await a delivery of cosy foot slippers .
Yesterday, thanks to Facebook, had a request from a cousin of mine to become a friend , have used the message system to catch up on things .
Take Care,
Mick

Good morning, Mick and all early risers, from a quiet, chilly Torbay.

Facebook does do good things, Mick: I bet you were pleased to hear from your cousin!

Yesterday, I decided I should post the calendar to DH which would have been given to him on Christmas Day, had I been permitted to visit France. Having wrapped up warmly, I called in at my surgery for hearing aid batteries and a friendly chat with the receptionists. On arrival at the P.O., I dutifully joined the short queue outside. Once inside, it was to be told that, due to travel disruption, no overseas mail is being accepted at present and to try again next week. Well, that came as a surprise as I’d heard no mention of it in the media.

Feeling more than a little miffed, I returned home; at least I had given my aged joints some exercise! On the other side of the park overlooked by my flat is a care home. Seeing two ambulances there put into perspective my irritation with my fruitless outing.

I hope all of you can find a blessing for which to smile today.
e.g. Why is it best to think of 2020 like a panto? Because eventually, it's behind you!

Only two more days of the strangest year most of us have ever known!

Good morning from a glorious EKent. The brightness of the full moon in a hazy sky woke me up!
Brilliant news of Iris. She had a review yesterday. Her shin has straightened another 20 degrees, only about 15 deg to go before it’s straight! They are removing one of the gizmos, she starts hydrotherapy in January.
She is allowed to go to school when it reopens; she is now getting around on crutches, falling back to Walker/wheelchair when tired.
Her next op is in early February all things being equal. Great success! Thanks for prayers.
Started a new patchwork. Hate having nothing to do p, don3 all the knitting, crochet, etc., that I need. Eyesight no longer good enough for fine embroidery.
Have a good day, especially our very own Marydoll and all those who are sad, poorly or having difficulties. Stay safe. X

Morning Mick and all from a damp north Wales- this weather isn’t helping the dhobi wallah ☀️Is what he needs - methinks I’ll have to change suppliers from LauraNorder to Bellasnana!

Sorry to hear that some of you are still under the weather, Annsixty I hoped you’d be skipping along with your new hip! Hope your nephew is soon on the mend, what a worrying time ?

That quilt was delightful GrandMattie - you have a lovely eye for colour, as well as nimble fingers!

For those of you with lovely scenic snow and nowhere to go, I hope it doesn’t turn to dirty slush too soon or worse, ice over - mind how you go!

Will pop back later to read your doings- I have a chamberpot awaiting......?

Beechnut Wed 30-Dec-20 06:35:32

Good Morning everyone from Severnside where it’s very frosty. There’s a big ol’ moon out there making me think it was later than it is.

I’ve not heard anything about overseas mail either Ash. I’ve not got to send anything yet though.

A day for me much like yesterday, a bit of reading and sewing.

Stay safe and warm all ?

Ashcombe Wed 30-Dec-20 06:38:52

The best news about Iris, grandMattie! What a plucky little soul she is and how wonderful she will feel to be going back to school.

Sparklefizz Wed 30-Dec-20 06:47:31

Good Morning Mick and everyone. It's a very frosty morning here in South Glos. I woke up early and was hoping to get back to sleep but there was an owl hooting close by which I've never heard here before, so it was magical to lie warm and snug under my weighted blanket, cat purring by my side, to listen to it.

You will need those slippers Mick. I think it's going to be that kind of winter.

I'm afraid I haven't followed the story about Iris (love the name!) but am pleased that things are going well for her. Thoughts to all who are struggling. flowers

Off to have some brekkie now that the house has warmed up.

Stay warm and safe everyone.

Kim19 Wed 30-Dec-20 07:03:14

Good morning all! What I really appreciate is something special, however small, to mentally kick start my day. GM you have given me that with your splendid news of your Iris's wonderful progress. Don't really understand how that works in this 'virtual' world but it has certainly made me feel good. Bravo all round!

Beechnut Wed 30-Dec-20 07:18:38

Very good news about Iris grandMattie.

brook2704 Wed 30-Dec-20 07:20:11

Good morning everyone from Inverness where the snow has remained put and there’s a bit more in the forecast too. Poor DGS has a grazed face after falling off his sledge but cheered up later when making a very good snowman ⛄️
Today I’m meeting DD2 for a walk in the local woods as she’s getting stressed out about the schools here not reopening until at least 18th January and her employer isn’t really being very flexible with her hours ☹️
Great news about Iris grandMattie what a little star!
Hope your DGS continues to improve annsixty
Hope everyone finds something to enjoy today and take care all whatever the day brings ?

grandMattie Wed 30-Dec-20 07:20:55

A pair of grey school trousers has been requested!

kittylester Wed 30-Dec-20 07:32:15

Morning all from a very cold North Leicestershire.

Not a lot on here today - a little admin to do and that is all.

We still have a little lying snow but not much. The little boys from next door came round to ask if they could borrow some of our snow to make a snowman! grin

Great news about Iris!

Thinking of our gilly! Have a good day all.

Sar53 Wed 30-Dec-20 07:42:44

Good morning from a very frosty Essex by the sea.
Supermarket shopping this morning, needs must as the fridge is looking decidedly bare.
Lovely news about Iris GM, you must be feeling very relieved.
Another afternoon of cross stitch and watching tv, there really isn't much else to do. The infection rates in this area seem to be rising exponentially, and the hospitals are struggling.
I've just read that the Oxford vaccine has been approved so some good news.
Have the best Wednesday you can and stay safe everyone xx

Gagagran Wed 30-Dec-20 07:45:20

Good Morning everyone from a very chilly south coast.

Another day of not very much is on the cards but I do want to start my next click and collect order list. I prefer this method of shopping to trailing round the store looking for items and will definitely continue with it if we ever get back to normal.

Just seen the great news that the Oxford vaccine has been authorised so it should be full steam ahead now to get the jab for us over 75s.

Good news about Iris Grandmattie - what a little trouper!

Might see a few snowflakes today just as we did yesterday but it was only a short shower of wet snow which did not stick. Best place for snow is on Christmas cards in my opinion!

Keep warm and keep safe GNs. Spring is not far away now! sunshine

Dwmxwg Wed 30-Dec-20 07:52:07

Good morning from a frosty start to the morning here in north Surrey.
Great news about Iris GrandMattie, children heal and adapt so quickly, if only our bodies could keep that as we grow older.
I did manage to get a walk and do some housework yesterday. I am trying to enjoy the downtime but it isn’t me really.
A visit to mum and dad this morning, dog walk and the ironing pile has grown. They will fill a few hours.
Hope all those who are struggling at the moment have a better day

harrigran Wed 30-Dec-20 07:56:32

Good morning from a very cold NE where it has been snowing again.
Grocery delivery this morning so I will dress warmly to stand in the porch.
Had lovely messages from GDs yesterday thanking us for gifts, teenager got money to buy clothes too, she said she had already been online and bought loads. Amazing that they have a wardrobe full but not a stitch to wear.
I think it may have something to do with attending school without uniform.
Stay safe and warm.

NanKate Wed 30-Dec-20 08:02:30

Morning Mick and All.

A rather lovely sky of layers of orange, pink, blue and grey, here in South Bucks.

Had a disturbed night with occasional bouts of a tickly cough. After getting up at 3.30 for hot lemon, ginger and honey it’s calmed down.

What happy news about Iris so good to be on her improving medical journey. We all need some good news.

The Zoom Talk yesterday about underground London was fascinating. I learned that the Thames used to be much wider and shallower, this is when the Winter Fairs were very popular. I also learned about the problem with the ‘Big Stink’ due to the contaminated Thames, won’t go into more detail as I could put you off your breakfast. John Martin the Landscape architect came up with a plan the resolve the problem. The Thames was narrowed and deepened. Part 2 of the talk is today. History lesson over.

Good news that the Oxford vaccine has been approved. ?

GrannyGravy13 Wed 30-Dec-20 08:03:05

Good morning Mick and all

Very frosty up the road also Sar53 with a clear blue sky with pink wispy bits!!

No plans here today, brilliant news regarding Iris grandMattie ??

Keep safe, well and warm folks ???

baubles Wed 30-Dec-20 08:03:27

Good morning Mick, morning all from S Lanarkshire. It looks like we’ve had a little more snow overnight, my little pooch will be delighted, photo of her taken yesterday.

Facebook is great for keeping in touch with far flung family Mick, glad you got to catch up with your cousin.

Sainsbury’s delivery this morning will bring leek and carrots so I’ll get the soup pot out, that’s this evening’s meal sorted.

Wonderful news about Iris gM.
brook my DD is stressed too, I’m really not sure how they’re going to manage.

Hope everyone has the best day possible.

Marydoll Wed 30-Dec-20 08:08:31

Good morning all from avery cold Glasgow, its -3° C.

What great news about Iris, GM. I envy your quilt making skills. I'm curious, as to what you do with them, as you must have quite a few.
When I was a wee girl, I had a hand sewn one on my bed, made by my grannie. Its base was a First World War, grey army blanket. No two squares matched, as it was made from scraps of material, probably old clothes.
I'm sure it was nothing like the quality of yours !! The scraps fascinated me, wondering who had been wearing those clothes.

Ashcome, how annoying to queue up and find you couldn't
send your calendar. Did you know that anything being posted to Europe after Friday needs a customs declaration?

It's bitterly cold here, so no walk today for me, as the cold air leaves me really breathless.
I had to decline a socially distanced walk round the block with my two friends yesterday, as it was so bitterly cold. It was probably a wise move. My Covid app showed that in our small community of 3000 people, there are twelve new cases, when previously there were none. We have been in Tier 4 for weeks, so what is going wrong?

We have a Tesco delivery today, but I have noticed that the availability of items seems to have shrunk dramatically. There were no oranges yesterday!! I'm just grateful to be getting items. We certainly won't starve.

I want to apologise and am very embarrassed for my wobbles over the last few days and have given myself a shake.
The support of some very special Gransnetters and the PMs they sent, (you know who you are), has really helped me. Shielding, family worries and failing health just got to me. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

For those posters who are struggling at the moment, I'm sending my very best wishes. Take care everyone.

Viridian Wed 30-Dec-20 08:13:28

Thank you for the Thames info NanKate. My son and I are inveterate mudlarks and are fascinated by the Thames. Meanwhile, it's bright and cold here in south Cornwall. Good morning everyone!

Went to sleep listening to Frenchman's Creek last night. Always quite fancied the gentleman pirate in the book. ??? Am I even allowed to say that here?!! Tut.

Moving swiftly on, enjoy your cosy slippers Mick. Lovely continuing news about Iris, and hope things improve for your grandson Ann.

Have the best of days everyone. I'm going to do today what I should have been doing for months and get back to writing.

Lins1066 Wed 30-Dec-20 08:22:45

Good morning Mick and all. Cold and dry here on the S Welsh coast. There was a gorgeous sunset last night and a huge moon. We went for a walk in the Common yesterday, sat on a bench looking at the sea, the coastline west to the Gower was very clear, could almost see Cherry's house. Good news about Iris grandMattie. Good news too about the Oxford vaccine, a cousin's son is a biologist and he says those brilliant scientists have been working 24 hours a day.
Another walk weather permitting, we are keeping away from the seafront, too many covidiots descending on our little town. A Sainsburys delivery this morning.
Have a good day everyone,, sending a gentle hug to those who are struggling for whatever reason. Glad there is good news about your dgs annsixty.

Scentia Wed 30-Dec-20 08:24:16

Good Morning all from East Staffordshire where it is very icy and bitterly cold.
It is DH birthday today and we are meeting our DS and DDiL for a walk. DD and DSiL and DGS were to be joining us but DD snd DGS are under the weather. I do think that’s a bit of an excuse as she will be nervous of a row as DDiL and DSiL are less than friendly to one another and unfortunately DH birthday would not stop DDiL having a go. It is all to do with DSiL job offshore!!
I have a chocolate cake I bought from the shop which is vegan so we can all have a piece.?
So happy to read lots of positive posts about people feeling better.
Take care everyone and stay safe❤️

ginny Wed 30-Dec-20 08:26:11

Good Morning from a very chilly N. Bucks. We have had a beautiful pink and gold tinged sky though. I am hoping that we don’t get snow. It’s very pretty to see for an hour or so, and I’d be happy to build a snowman with DGS but that’s not going to happen at the moment.
Had a lovely walk and chat with DD1 yesterday and timed it perfectly. It started to rain just as we returned back to the car park.
DD3 ‘phoned and she is feeling anxious about various things . She needs a Mum hug ?
Nothing particular planned today. More knitting and sewing.
Good to hear Iris is progressing well and ? for all under par in any way.
Hope you all find a ?today.

cornergran Wed 30-Dec-20 08:26:47

Morning Mick, morning All from a dry corner of Somerset, the clouds are pink so perhaps we will get some snow today. The forecast is clear - we may or we may not smile. Grocery delivery, a few more Christmas decorations will be packed away and dust removal for us today. Not exciting but satisfying.

That’s wonderful news grandMattie, good luck with the school trousers. Please marydoll, don’t apologise, we all wobble sometimes, it’s a human trait so wobble away if it helps. You have more than most to manage. I’m more angry at the behaviour I observe than wobbly at the moment, my reality though it is I’m not so sure it’s helpful for me or anyone else.

On the positive side I have a telephone appointment wih muscular skeletal next week, my GP did a sterling job nagging them. Take care everyone, special thoughts for those with heavy hearts.
