Hello Everyone smile
New thread here.
Thank you all so very much for your company on the first thread.
I'm looking forward to our half asleep, woozy 2am chats moonbrew

Hello polomint I think that question was raised some time ago but there are probably more people on GN now. I've not Joined in this chat before but have been tempted. Just taken more painkillers as it's been a bad day . Hoping sleep will takeover soon. Normally it's pain or too many thoughts about too many subjects that brings me here.

Hello Everyone /Anyone ?

Good morning all and welcome Polomint. Coping with pain is a difficult problem with which I can empathise.
Been awake for half an hour. I won't reach for the chocolate as I had a tiny slice of black forest gateau last night and blood sugar isn't great.
Just heard a dog barking in the distance and it reminded me of the barking owl. Which lead me to remember staying at a Eurocamp in a forest near Chambord. Awake around 2-3am, I heard owls calling for the first time, actually only time ever. It was magical. I stayed awake for ages just to listen. A wonderful memory.

Think I'll read my book for a while.

Hello nadateturbe and welcome polomint and lollin
Oh I love black forest gateaux! I had one for my birthday a couple of weeks ago.
I do hope that the barking dog wasn't mine! I have to keep getting her in as she barks at the foxes in the middle of the night.
I don't know if you joined us too late to read about this, nadateturbe but all during my childhood and early adulthood, my family and I had tame tawny owls. I wrote at length about it on the first Night Owls thread, but it didn't seem to garner much interest blush

nadateturbe Mon 01-Feb-21 05:04:16

How interesting FannyCornforth I must look back.
I have a photo of myself sonewhere with a barn owl on my arm. It was very heavy.

Welcome Lollin.
Going to try and nod off now.

Good Morning Night Owls,
Welcome polomint! You will find this thread a very gentle and supportive one. But definitely not dull with Fanny at the helm!

Lollin I hope you have been able to grab a few hours of sleep before you need to get going this morning.

I have been awake from 3 this morning, but didn’t post messages as my hands were too cold outside the covers and lying flat on my back, the iPad seemed too heavy! ?

Marilla Mon 01-Feb-21 07:25:45

We seem to keep ourselves awake at night with the worries of the world running through our minds. Do our husbands sleep through the night with little effort?

Lollin Mon 01-Feb-21 08:01:55

Thank you last or painkillers taken as managed to drop off, typing with weong hand for me v slow. Here's to a quieter night chat for night owls tonight

Blossoming Mon 01-Feb-21 22:47:49

I am really hoping to get a good night’s sleep tonight as I have an annual review meeting with my financial advisor tomorrow. I’ve had a cup of cocoa, my unruly digestive system has been behaving itself so far today. Just hope the ghastly ‘itchy leg’ doesn’t put in an appearance!

So for now I’ll say Goodnight Grans and I hope not to see you again tonight!

Mollygo Tue 02-Feb-21 00:08:11

Hope you get a good night’s sleep Bossoming and to all other Night Owls. I’m just about to listen to Powder and Patch and hopefully doze off .

polomint Tue 02-Feb-21 00:13:43

Well I went to bed at 10.45 and just tossed and turned so I'm now back up, sitting in chair, reading gransnet threads and having a bailleys followed by a chocolate bar. If I wait half hour and go back to bed I hope to sleep and visit the land of nod

Lollin Tue 02-Feb-21 00:55:24

Hopefully a quiet thread tonight meaning night owls all getting a good night's sleep. I can hear rain, as forecast, which on a positive note sounds nice in the quiet.

Mollygo Tue 02-Feb-21 03:29:44

It’s an on-off night and I’m about to try an amazing sleep inducing cup of builders tea. No idea why it works in the middle of the night.
The rain has started lashing against the windows again. It doesn’t help. Hope it stays quiet here, although company is always welcome.

lemsip Tue 02-Feb-21 03:35:37

snap, I've just drunk a cup of that builders tea with a few biscuits dunked in it, went down a treat. bed at midnight but awake since 2.30am.

Lollin Tue 02-Feb-21 04:45:19

I ended up managing to get a reasonable position or so I thought . Recently woken by fresh pain in wrist where i had fallen asleep in bad position.

FannyCornforth Tue 02-Feb-21 04:49:58

Hello Owls ?
Back in a mo brewmoon

Lollin Tue 02-Feb-21 05:05:02

Hello

FannyCornforth Tue 02-Feb-21 05:16:51

Hello lollin!
Whereabouts are you? I'm in Derby, it's chucking out down here. We are forecast snow, but I can't see it happening. Are you new? Sorry - I think that I read that you were, I do try to remember. I've only been here since September.
Molly, what's Powder & Patch?
Right, I'm putting on the kettle...

Lollin Tue 02-Feb-21 05:35:45

I'm going to have to try toplug my devuse in just noticed battery very lo

FannyCornforth Tue 02-Feb-21 05:37:56

Polomint, with your Bailey's and chocolate I think that you have a kindred spirit with nadateturbe. She also has a sweet tooth, and from what I can make out, may have a dedicated chocolate drawer.
Did you start your thread yesterday? I kept an eye out for it. I'm trying to think of a good thread to start. It's all doom and gloom here at the moment, as I'm sure that lemsip will agree!
Time for a slurp, I'm going old skool this morning - chocolate ovaltine brew

nanna8 Tue 02-Feb-21 06:11:06

Haven’t had ovaltine for about forty years, brought back memories. Do they still have Horlicks? I remember that, my mum used to make it.

FannyCornforth Tue 02-Feb-21 06:18:42

Hello nanna8 yes, we still have Horlicks, I think that my Nan is a fan, I think that I had it the last time I stayed with her. You've just reminded me that I ought to phone her today!
Nanna8 you are in Australia aren't you? I recall seeing a photo of parakeets in your garden, I apologise if I've got you mixed up.
I've just sent an email to GNHQ regarding all the hoo ha yesterday.

FannyCornforth Tue 02-Feb-21 06:23:50

Sorry lollin, I mistakenly thought that you were new.
I'm losing the plot...

Mollygo Tue 02-Feb-21 08:25:26

Ovaltine, Horlicks those names take me back. I loved Horlicks. Did the Ovaltine work for you Fanny?
Polomint, a Baileys at bedtime and chocolate- that sounds ?? but a recipe for heartburn for me. I might try a small Baileys Chocolate Luxe next time though now you’ve mentioned the combination.
Powder and Patch is another Georgette Heyer book. It’s about self improvement ?so I could mention it on a new post I’ve just noticed.

polomint Tue 02-Feb-21 08:27:28

I did start a new thread asking what song brought back sad memories
