Hello Everyone smile
New thread here.
Thank you all so very much for your company on the first thread.
I'm looking forward to our half asleep, woozy 2am chats moonbrew

FannyCornforth Tue 02-Feb-21 12:21:37

Oh, that will be why I didn't see it polomint! I don't really want to dwell on bad memories and sad songs I suppose.
I've always liked Eleanor Rigby.
I like the Beatles 'story songs' like that and Lady Madonna and She's Leaving Home. Interesting that their finest lyrics are about women.

polomint Tue 02-Feb-21 12:44:24

A lot of sad memories on that thread I started. My memory was only of loneliness, but a lot of answers were memories of deaths and funerals. So sad when music can affect emotions that were in the back of your mind. Someone should start the opposite...songs which bring back happy memories

No one else here tonight..... maybe too early. I went to bed quite late but don’t think I’ve slept. As usual, no idea why but whatever it is made worse by the knowledge of having to be up reasonably early for a Zoom call. Will have a little GN read to see if that helps. Night all.

FannyCornforth Wed 03-Feb-21 03:38:21

Hello, I'm here, if anyone else is. moon
Just let the dog out / in.
Someone said that the definition of 'door' is something that a dog is always the wrong side of.
Made some galaxy hot chocolate too.
(Hope that you asleep now Kate. )

nadateturbe Wed 03-Feb-21 04:05:42

Good morning FannyCornforth. and anyone else who is awake. Just woke for the loo but still sleepy so I think I'll nod off again. Good definition Fanny. Hot chocolate sounds delicious. I have some Green and Blacks in the cupboard which I keep forgetting.
My drawer is really a medical and chocolate drawer. I have after eight chocs, malteser truffles from Christmas, and Lidls 85% dark chocolate (my favourite) Daughter recently sent some to cheer me called Monty Bojangles. Also have Rich Tea biscuits in a pretty F&M tin.
Just been downstairs as I could see the security light was on but everything fine. I think it's just the wind causing it. It's wet and very windy here in County Antrim.

nadateturbe Wed 03-Feb-21 04:11:45

This is my biscuit tin. It holds a large pkt of Rich Tea. A London visit always includes a treat from F&M.

FannyCornforth Wed 03-Feb-21 04:15:11

Good morning nadateturbe.
Your drawer sounds amazing!
I haven't tried Monty Bojangles, but I have seen them, they've got very interesting packaging haven't they?
My current weakness is Border biscuits. I've been buying lots of calorific stuff to build up DH, but it's having the inevitable effect on me, I'm afraid.
Do you have anything planned for today?

nadateturbe Wed 03-Feb-21 04:31:57

The drawer contents will last well into March. FannyCornforth. The Bojangles are wrapped individually. Packaging is very attractive.
Border dark chocolate ginger..I darent think about them! Its difficult buying stuff for others that you don't want to eat yourself. I hope your husband is improving.
Yesterday I managed to write my 2 gs a letter with some money in. They love opening them. Today I hope to paint or do some papier mache and look at one of my free OU courses. Thats the plan! You?

FannyCornforth Wed 03-Feb-21 05:07:57

That tin is gorgeous! It's obviously like Tiffany, but it also reminds me of the Moorecroft (sp?) pottery that my Mom collected.
Thank you, yes, he is definitely improving, but he still has very bad days. The GP says that he can have the vaccine in about three weeks time, which is a relief as he has got it into his head that 'they' are going to run out of vaccines.
You sound so creative! I wish that I could get my artistic mojo back. I've got such a block. sad I think that I seem to need a 'purpose' to do anything.
What OU courses are you doing? Sorry to bombard you with questions, I am desperate for inspiration! This is especially the case as it looks highly unlikely that I will be going back to work.
In case we don't 'speak' again this morning, I hope that you have a lovely day.

Nannytopsy Wed 03-Feb-21 05:38:31

Morning! We have the DGC overnight ( mum & dad NHS night shift). DGD climbed in with us at 3.38 and of course is sound asleep. I am not! I am now in her bed.

FannyCornforth Thu 04-Feb-21 02:11:53

Hello! ?Or ay-up, as they say around here
Enjoying a cup of Biscuit Brew in my brand spanking new Emma Bridgewater mug.

Mollygo Thu 04-Feb-21 05:14:39

Fancy missing all the chocolate chat yesterday, but I slept well.
Fanny I’m glad your husband is improving and can soon have the vaccine. My sister in law also worries that there might not be enough vaccine for her.
Was the mug a present? What does it look like?

Kim19 Thu 04-Feb-21 05:35:20

Hello Molly. Morning! Just been doing a bit of curtain twitching and note no more snow. The wind also seems to have subsided so I may manage a walk of sorts today. I've been doing a bit of telly catch up before I popped in here. All up to date now. Yesterday's success was a bit of sleeve alteration on a new fleece. Hate sewing but it had to be done. Didn't take that long either but procrastination was the name of the game. I'm hopeless. Another yesterday plus was that I actually noticed the stretch in daylight hours. Lovely........ life is full of promise. On that happy note, I hope everyone has a good day.

nadateturbe Fri 05-Feb-21 00:51:42

Good evening! I thought I would say hello now in case I manage to get a good sleep.
Nannytopsy your post took me back to when rhe children were young and came into our bed.
FannyCornforth in answer to your query I managed to start a new painting of a side view of a church and graveyard. I like painting buildings. I am doing some very basic free courses just to pass the time. I've done Uses of Language and Basic French and am now on 2nd French course and basic Italian. They are not qualifications although you get a certificate. But you can pay and do a diploma/degree course. Or an access course which is fun. I did an access course years ago. Its difficult to get motivated at the minute, I feel.
I'm glad your husband is improving.
Well I'm off to the land of nod hopefully. Goodnight everyone. Hope you get some sleep.. Mornings are getting brighter ?

Mollygo Fri 05-Feb-21 03:09:01

Hi nadateturbe how lovely to be able to paint. What will you do with your painting when it’s finished?
You’re right about trying to be motivated though. It’s a sort of ‘why bother’ feeling.
I’m passing the time with languages too, Dutch and Portuguese and I’m thinking of a course about Prosecco. Sadly it’s not a tasting course.
For some reason I’m wide awake so far tonight. It’s not a problem, just puzzling.
Oh well, back to my book.

nadateturbe Fri 05-Feb-21 03:46:29

Mollygo some of my better efforts are framed and on a walk upstairs but most go into a folder. I'm not really very talented but I enjoy it.
I have just started an audio book Shuggie Bain...haven't decided if I like it yet. What are you reading? What course arw you using?

polomint Sun 07-Feb-21 01:28:02

Why as soon as my head touches the pillow I'm wide awake with thoughts and plans? I guess its cos I've no time to think my own thoughts through the day as I'm.busy looking after my husband, house , dog etc and it's my only " me " when I get to bed. Tonight, in my head I'm sorting through my wardrobe wondering ill ever get to wearing some of my lovely tops again. Should I clear them out to a charity shop or not? What about all the ornaments I've collected over the years? No one in the family will want them as they are all my memories not theirs. Should I clear them away too? Maybe I'm just a bit down as I've heard a friend of a friend has been diagnosed with dementia and will be going into a home. What happens to her house and belongings sent me along this train of thought and now I cant sleep. How sad that we build up our homes with memories and poof, they are gone in an instant. Sorry to seem so morbid. 3 bailleys havnt done the trick tonight in sending me to land of nod. Sweet dreams to anyone who has reached the land of slumber

Mollygo Sun 07-Feb-21 01:41:53

Sorry you can’t sleep polomint. You sound like you have busy days with no time to think.
It’s sad about your friend and I can see why you’d start wondering about what will happen to your things. If you notice on the ‘do you collect anything’ thread, lots of us have things that make us happy, but who knows what will happen to those things when we’re gone?
I hope you’ve managed to drop off now.
Nadateturbe I usually use Futurelearn courses, and to back up any language ones I use Memrise.
Tonight’s just a ‘white night’. There’s no reason why I’m awake, I just am.

Hello to all you night owls. Been reading your contribution with much recognition of parts of myself, polomint (my lovely Mum's constant sweet). 'Stuff' can become such a nightmare for some of us. I was guilty because, of course, every item is attached to some sort of past memory or achievement but I realised my children had little of such nostalgia and, anyway, would make their own dreams along life's way. Slowly but surely I have managed to part with many items - some more difficult than others - but in the end all I feel is a calm kind of relief. Part of my motivation was the painful memory of clearing out my Mum's house after she died. Quite an awful experience. I think she collected lovely 'stuff' because of a somewhat deprived early life due to the war etc. I can't do this to my children. Furthermore, they are lads who have little interest in my beloved junk and have well established lives of their own. Isn't it wonderful that we can retain the memories even when we part with the 'stuff'. I'm definitely a work in progress!

nadateturbe Sun 07-Feb-21 05:38:05

Hello folks. I just spent ages writing a long post and it disappeared ?. My fault of course. Abridged version..thank you Mollygo I love languages.
Re clearing out I won't worry. My ever practical daughter assured me years ago they won't argue over my stuff they'll get someone in to clear it, apparently very common nowadays. But glad you feel better Kim. My mum too always had a packet of polo mints.

nadateturbe Sun 07-Feb-21 05:45:53

Polomint I had a private fashion show in my bedroom recently of all the nice winter tops I didn't get to wear this year. I'm not throwing any away.

nanna8 Sun 07-Feb-21 06:13:56

When my mum died, a long time ago now, I kept a couple of her coats and I still have them. It is just a part of her. I don't wear them because they are a bit out of date but somehow I can't part with them. Soppy date, as my dad would have said.

FannyCornforth Sun 07-Feb-21 08:14:13

Hi all ?
Hope that you are all okay, I feel like I haven't been here for ages. I slept ridiculously well last night. About 10 hours! But it means that I've had to take my tablets now instead of 3am so will probably fall asleep again blush
Kim my mom had a massive thing about polos too, she used to say that she was addicted to them. I never saw the attraction myself. I noticed you mention on another thread that you have an interesting story about your engagement ring. Would you like to tell us please? I'm fascinated by all things jewellery.
Hope that everyone has a peaceful day today. (I might be back later to talk about having too much 'stuff' - it's a constant concern of mine!)

FannyCornforth Tue 09-Feb-21 02:26:47

Hello Everyone ?moon
Just wanted to say I'm here if anyone is about. I've been awake for hours due to a painful back, but the tablets are kicking in now and I'm feeling more comfortable.

nanna8 Tue 09-Feb-21 02:57:30

Hi Fanny. Early afternoon here, a nice sunny day and not too hot. Just had lunch, sardines and lettuce on toast and a cup of Indonesian coffee.
