My youngest brother was for my mum. He was literally the chosen child, who was born after my grandfather (her dad) died.
My dad told me at one point that they had only planned to have 2 but after grampy died, mum wanted the third. Her whole attitude towards him and later his children was different.
I always felt that I was a disappointment to mum - eldest brother went to grammar school, got 10 O levels, 4 A levelsthen Uni, got a degree and then became a teacher.
Me following on also went to grammar but I only got 3 O levels first time around, retook some and ended up with 7 in total, Uni wasn't for me and though my jobs were pretty good (Health Authority and Opticians) I never felt that I reached what she expected of me.
