It appears that we now have some of our old friends back where they belong here with us in the kitchen. I couldn't wish for anything more uplifting during this sad and trying time.

I couldn't wish for a better gang of on-line pals. Whatever qualms you may have regarding the pros and cons of GN, just remember that I appreciate all the support you've given to me over a number of years. I would hate to be without our daily gatherings. They help to keep me the right side of sane.

Afternoon all, just popped in to say how wonderful to see you back in the kitchen Izabella I've missed you and your delightful descriptions. Glad to hear that your husband's eyesight is much improved.
We are just back from taking our Sam ( 8 months on Friday ) for a walk, a rather misty afternoon but plenty of birdsong in the hedgerows here too, it did raise the spirits.
I'm sorry to hear of your unwell pets Muse and N&G and trust that they will be better soon. It is indeed strange visiting the vet at the moment, it was hard handing our pup over to the vet's assistant to have his second injections at 3 months but by all accounts he was fine, I'm sure your Sam will be too N&G.

I've completed the thirty minute pedal to no place. At the same time I've been listening to a tape of late night jazz. My favourite tracks are Sarah Vaughan & Billy Eckstine singing 'Passing Strangers' and Peggy Lee singing 'The Folks Who Live On The Hill'.

I'm feeling rather dreamy. Away to feed Fern. She has perfected the art of looking at me through the window with an expression that melts my heart.

Hello Yiayia4,I’ve just done the same as you. I feel my hairdresser makes a far better job of it, but that will be a few weeks’ wait I fear. Meanwhile it’s all looking better than it did recently.

We are safely home with Sam a long list of issues :-(
His neck is infected and we wait to know if it IS a cyst or something more sinister. He has put on a kg since Christmas and coupled with a thickening of the neck the vet is concerned his thyroid is not working, His heart murmur has worsened too. So lots of tests to decide the best course of action for him poor lad.

AND she feels he's either going deaf or already deaf.

When I trained him as a pup I used hand signals as well as words so we hadn't noticed an issue. But when the vet gave him commands he didn't know what to do.

So we're a bit worried about him. One simple spot and we discover he's falling apart.

He has just been video called by the little boys who wanted to make sure he was ok ( We know who's important in this house. They call this Nanas House and if you ask who else lives here they happily reply 'Sammy' - sod poor old Grampy!!)

So I am off to spoil my boys after a traumatic afternoon. Hope everyone else has fared much better x

Hi Bellanonna retired hairdresser here, but I still think my hairdresser does a better job and it’s a treat to be pampered for a few hours.Hopefully one day soon.

I’m another relative newbie on this thread Izabella and it’s lovely to ‘meet’ you. You have a wonderful way with descriptive words. I felt I was looking out of that window with you!

We took my stepfather to his pre op assessment for his second cataract removal and he was delighted to be given a date to have this done in just over two weeks time! His appointment lasted just shy of two hours. He said he was in and out of about six cubicles and felt the assessment was very thorough.

I didn’t post last night. Everything seemed out of sorts so I decided to keep my own counsel.

Time to go and mash the potatoes. Steak pie with ale gravy is about ready! x

NanaandGrampy worrying times with Sam, fingers crossed. You ladies have reminded me to order some more hair colour, I might go a shade lighter, no one will see it apart from my husband, who may well not notice, but it makes me feel better. Leftover Christmas turkey now curried with some mushrooms, an easy dinner with some ‘ding’ rice, a brilliant invention. Death in Paradise later, have a pleasant evening all.

How old is Sam? The older they get the more precious in my experience. My first spaniel lost sight and hearing but her zest for life was little diminished.

I’ve frequently thought that our internet access is the Portuguese equivalent of Kintyre. Definitely has a mind of its own, but things might be changing. There has just been a nice young man (well he had a very cheerful smile) climbing and changing the wires on the telegraph pole outside that supplies our cable internet access. I’ve added a photograph but it doesn’t show the long hooks on his shoes very well. It was fascinating to watch how he managed to scale and and carryon working on the pole.

Sorry to hear about poor Sam's neck N&G, the vet sounds as if he is on the ball with all the tests and hopefully he will find the cause of the infection very soon. Sam is a beautiful spaniel and clearly a very important member of the family. I wish him a speedy recovery, give him a cwtch from me.

Reassuring to hear that your step father had such a good experience Urm and that he won't have long to wait for his cataract operation. He is the second person I've heard of this week to have a speedy cataract op, though my poor cousin in North Wales has been waiting ages for hers.

Hope your internet is sorted soon dustyangel that young man certainly has a head for heights, I do not.

I agree re that young man up the pole- I can barely change a lightbulb nowadays hence when I renewed my lightbulbs I bought 10 year ones so some may well "see me out".

Good evening. A late and increasingly rare post as I am not out and about at all. The garden is covered in several inches of snow and yet some posters in the south have daffodils starting to show. I am just tiptoeing around GN at the moment; being seen and not heard.
Lovely to see you izabella and what good news about your husband’s eyesight.
I have made savoury scones and left them on the side. I was inspired by a cookery programme that I accidentally watched this afternoon - I didn’t turn the tv off after the news. They have turned out better than usual so I’m not embarrassed to leave them on the side for the midnight snackers and tomorrow morning.
A Netflix recommendation that entertained me this week is “Cheat”. Let’s keep on keeping on. Night night.

I've spent the evening cooking blackberries (from frozen) to make a syrup for colds. Usually this is done in Sept but I couldnt find any in our hedgerow then.
The supermarket was selling them off so Ah Ha I thought, I know what I'm going to make with them!
The kitchen smells heavenly.

Got a call from the carehome yesterday about my 100 year old Mum which was concerning but hopefully it is a UTI which can be treated.

Left some freshly baked scones on the side with butter - calorie free!

I have my first jab this morning, feeling fortunate and a bit excited. By April, it’s possible we can return to our usual day a week Care of our 4 younger grandchildren.
I’m inspired to make scones, after reading Feeling’s post. Maybe cheese scones and I’ll make soup to have with them.
Mine will be calorie free as well dragon. They need to be - I’m increasing in this lockdown.

Thank you all for your kind wishes for Sam. He got us up at 4am to go out and that is very rare , he can usually sleep for England.

He's looking very sorry for himself now as the infection on his neck continues to weep so now he has a huge solid matt on the back of his neck which is driving him crazy as he tries to scratch it. A cone of shame wont keep him off it as its in just the wrong position to today he will be wearing a fetching toddler sized t shirt !!

He's 8 in a couple of months Iam and you're right , he is precious to us and even more so to his best buddy Cooper who has never known a life without Sam.

Its a hard lesson for a child to lose something he considers a friend. Hopefully this can all be resolved but it was such a shock to go from what was effectively a spot to a series of issues.

I like the sound of the blackberry syrup Nams what a good idea.

I am off to fritter the morning away in the West Wing as we wait for the vet to call. Sending everyone some happy thoughts today !
