Hello Mollygo and welcome.
( Hint - posters are especially welcome if they bring cake!)

Puzzler61 Sat 13-Feb-21 17:59:57

Welcome Mollygo. Just read, or join in, you will soon get to know everyone. Friendly hands are always extended here.
Are you new to Gransnet?

Puzzler61 Sat 13-Feb-21 18:00:43

X posts Nannyt . I forgot to say about cake ?.

Jaxjacky Sat 13-Feb-21 18:12:23

Well done to your son Kittylester a lady friend too! Annsixty pleased you’re back ? Looks like Mary Poppins soop! Grandmabatty Chuck some snow this way please, we’ve had very little, still, there’s time. I’ve had a very productive, quietly happy day as I felt like ‘doing’ rather than ‘plodding’, whist is what I seemed to have settled for. Upstairs all hoovered, longer walk than usual, good grief it was cold, seed compost sourced and dinner all prepped. Not a great deal compared to some of you dynamic people, just had a spring in my step today, not sure why, but I hope it lasts. Attached is the minute amount of snow we had a couple of weeks ago, could do better! Have a pleasant evening all.

Mollygo Sat 13-Feb-21 18:53:33

Nannytopsy and Puzzler61Not new to Gransnet, but it was just nice to read a thread without any backbiting and lots of concern for others.
Puzzler61 Will caramelised banana upside down cake do as an offering?

Grandmabatty Sat 13-Feb-21 18:56:03

JaxJacky you are welcome to it! I'm hoping for a thaw tomorrow as I have to drive to town to pick up new specs. But a rapid thaw = flooding. Molly welcome to the kitchen. The Good morning thread started by Mick is also very soothing.

cornergran Sat 13-Feb-21 19:26:00

Hello molly. Come and chat, we’ll. be pleased to see you.

Half a dozen flakes of snow today, so cold the wind could cut glass.

Lovely photos soop, both birds and cats know where there will be food.

A huge well done to your son kitty, good luck to him for his next venture.

Good to see you ann, you’ve been missed.

Excellent news about Sam n&g. Nothing wrong with being sturdy grin.

Feet up time here now. Take care everyone.

Urmstongran Sat 13-Feb-21 20:19:25

‘Evening All’
?

Nice to see you back in the fold again annsixty knowing you’ll post again soon.

Sad news about jingle. To be honest I don’t remember her. I think GoneGirl rings a bell though. Seems she was a very popular poster with a lot of people.

It’s been bitingly cold here today. We walked to the local park to chat to our family but it was a short visit owing to the weather. Our four year old granddaughter showed me her tiny fingernails painted with hot pink nail polish. First time she’s been allowed. Mummy said only for school holidays though! It’s half term here in Trafford.

Wishing everyone here a peaceful night ahead. x

‘Goodnight All’.

brook2704 Sat 13-Feb-21 21:05:36

Well done to your son kitty definitely an achievement to be proud of
I didn’t know jingle but sorry to hear the sad news
I’m a newbie to the kitchen molly but you couldn’t ask for a more friendly thread so I know you’d be very welcome to pop in whenever you can. Thank you for the cake it’s delicious
It’s been bitterly cold today in Inverness but due to start warming up from tomorrow - time to get the garden chairs out ... ?

NanaandGrampy Sat 13-Feb-21 22:16:13

Welcome Mollygo ,

I’m not sure how many kitchen thread there have been but it’s been years and there’s rarely a cross word. People come, are welcomed, fed cake and listened to . You can browse or post it’s up to you .

We’ love to get to know you.

Charleygirl5 Sat 13-Feb-21 22:40:59

N&G how dare the vet say Sam is sturdy. That little mite needs some reserves as he has been so unwell recently and he is not out of the woods yet although he does look a lot better.

kitty that is an excellent achievement on your son's behalf. When I had an exercise bike 10 minutes was long enough for me.

Welcome Mollygo some of us have "known" each other for years and we have been accused of being cliquey but on the whole, we get on very well and try to help each other.

soop before you know it, Torben will be going to work and I know you have not seen him for ages. That cat will be indoors by mid July. I would also bet on that. I do not think she will be sitting on your lap but she will come further indoors to dine royally.

muse Sat 13-Feb-21 23:31:02

Last call of the day. The kitchen is my ideal resting place before bed.
Hello Brook2704. I still think of myself as a newbie. It must be about 3 weeks since I joined. I'm foolhardy and contribute to a few other threads where things can get heated.
JaxJacky. I miss the snow. Got quite a lot in Derbyshire. We had a "blink and you missed it"" flurry this morning in Cornwall.
Kitty. Brag away. That's a great achievement. Huge.
Urm I have a 16 yr old granddaughter who colours her hair for the holidays. I think it's blue for half term. smile

I didn't know Jingle but the news took me back to my mother in her 80's being sad at loosing her friends.

For the first time in my life I did a cake cheat. Pretty good at baking but this mix had rave reviews. I ordered a brownie with salted caramel mix in my sainsbug's delivery yesterday. 5 ⭐️ It got a 2 from me. Not tried it on husband. He'll love it. It tasted just like Nutella which I'm not a fan of. No sign of nuts in the ingredients though hmm.

Cold wet walk with Mya today. I had a long chat on the phone with a temp vet at the surgery late yesterday. She doesn't think it's a reoccurrence of Mya's last bout of 'the runs'. Sticking to the new diet and giving her some probiotic fibre. She was OK today.

All my seeds arrived today, Raised beds are ready in the polytunnel thanks to Mark. He emptied 3 compost bins to top up the beds. To his surprise he found lots of baby grass snakes in one bin. We rehoused them in another, covered them with some leaves and left them in the warmth for the rest of the winter.

Hellogirl1 Sat 13-Feb-21 23:49:57

Lovely to see you back Annsixty, glad you`re keeping well.
Kitty, VERY well done your son, what an achievement!
Muse, I`d have been thrilled to discover those grass snakes. A couple of years ago I removed one from in front of my cat in the back yard. It was rearing up in front of her, but I was concerned that she would hurt it, so I removed it to the canal bank at the front.
Soop, I wouldn`t mind betting that if the snow continues, it will drive Fern into seeking warmer accommodation inside the house, I would if I was her. Hoping you and Mr Soop stay safe, warm and well during the snowy spell.
Welcome to the kitchen Mollygo, and thanks for the cake.

Nannytopsy Sun 14-Feb-21 00:01:44

Great cake Mollygo, thank you. Sleep tight everyone.

Puzzler61 Sun 14-Feb-21 08:57:35

Caramelised banana upside down cake is a plate of deliciousness thank you Mollygo. Does the recipe require you keep the bananas until they are ‘on the turn’ to make it? I am interested in a new variation of the usual banana loaf cake.
? annsixty nice to see you again.
May I add my congrats to your son kittylester.
A year ago my DD completed an overnight hill walk in weather very similar to this weekend’s. The photo she sent me - of her with a broad, rosy cheeked smile - when she reached the top showed the elation she felt.
It makes me happy to think it is nearly seed time again muse . I hope Mya continues to improve. ?
Urmston Hot pink is a perfect choice for winter. Your DGD will want matching lipstick next ?
My DH’s mother always referred to his “sturdy legs”. They have stood him in good stead for well over 60 years! ?
Grandmafrench are you sure you are sitting on the beach this weekend? How lovely. To us in the frozen UK it seems like you are on another planet.
I hope you still find you have a ‘spring in your step’ today jaxjacky - do you have a spare spring for me please?
So the snow has reached you soop . Stay warm and safe inside and if Fern can be persuaded, invite her in for a cuddle by the fire.
Have a good day all.

Yiayia4 Sun 14-Feb-21 09:36:20

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone.?
It’s very grey here in Surrey.
Welcome Mollygo you will love this thread.
I have started the diamond art Doodle and finding it very therapeutic could get hooked!

Looks like Fern will be making herself at home very soon Soop we all look forward to that day.
Time for click and collect shopping the highlight of the week!
Have a good day all.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 14-Feb-21 10:15:55

Well done to your son kittylester

No news from Gravy Grange, haven’t been anywhere or done anything exciting!!!!

Still have snow although I think it will have all disappeared by tomorrow. Definitely a sofa and kindle sort of day!
TOYA

annsixty Sun 14-Feb-21 10:37:55

A very quick and late Good morning just to say I am not ignoring PM’S, just unable to send.
I understand that the tech dept is aware and on to it.

NanaandGrampy Sun 14-Feb-21 11:45:11

Morning all !

Happy Valentines Day to you all . In our family we share the love , its not always about romantic partners but just generally loving life, or yourself or friends.

I have spoken to the little boys who sent secret gifts to their girlfriends and are very excited about it. I love that they get joy from giving as well as receiving .

I'm interested in the recipe too Mollygo we love a bit of cake :-)

He IS doing much better Charley thank goodness . He gave us a bit of a fright there for a while.

To everyone else - Happy day all x

Jaxjacky Sun 14-Feb-21 12:52:57

Puzzler61 the spring needs a bit of oil today, but I’ll be out for a mooch in the rain later. I’m determined to buy the GC’s some premium bonds this week, the NS&I online system doesn’t recognise their address, it’s new build, but they’ve been there for 14 months. So, it’ll be a tedious phone call, as there’s nothing else going on I’m resigned to it. Muse pangs of envy for raised beds and poly tunnels, I’m awaiting delivery of my greenhouse and my allotment, which I took over last autumn, still needs lots of work. But, potatoes chitting, when I get some seed compost this week I’ll start sowing tomatoes, chillies and peppers indoors. Hope Mya continues progress in the right direction. We’re having (bought) tiramisu tonight, a pudding is rare in this house, it’s huge, so kitcheners a treat later.

soop Sun 14-Feb-21 13:43:14

Warmest welcome to Mollygo. Please take a comfortable chair and join us. No need to remain a browser. flowers

soop Sun 14-Feb-21 13:48:40

Bring on the caramelised upside down banana cake, Mollygo. Us lot are partial to cake. Home-baked goes to the top of must-taste-list. wink

Grandmabatty Sun 14-Feb-21 13:53:43

Good afternoon all. I chickened out of driving to town to get my new specs. There's still lots of snow and it's very icy and I didn't want to fall. I fell a couple of years ago and cracked my ribs so I've been ultra cautious since then. I've nothing to share today. I might bake but I've lost my enthusiasm for much. I had a lovely WhatsApp video chat with a pal yesterday which cheered me up. I cleared out drawers in my bedroom too so the day wasn't entirely wasted. Have a good day all.

soop Sun 14-Feb-21 14:01:55

N&G How dare the vet describe Sam in such an indelicate way. Sam has feelings. Sam is a dignified canine. Sam has a fine figure. So there!
I totally agree that love is about so much more than romance. It took me a good few years to understand and fully appreciate the fact.

hmm Scotland just missed winning the match between them and Wales. It was a very well played game. Sadly not Scotland's victory.

The snow has completely disappeared. The wind is as fierce as we've experienced on the west coast. The ferries are grounded.

"Our cat" hasn't put in an appearance today. Mr Soop and I take it in turns to peer through the window. Watch this space.

annodomini Sun 14-Feb-21 14:29:40

Oh that game, soop! I was alternately on the edge of my chair and hiding behind a cushion. That forward that got sinbinned needs a good b*****king from the coach. Flower of Scotland wilted slightly this time! It's nice to get the odd glimpse of the Australian tennis, but an hour at a time on BBC2 isn't enough. It's probably on a paid-for channel that I don't have.sad
