The changing face of Gransnet?
(1001 Posts)I am a 'lockdown-joiner' to this forum, welcoming the opportunity join in with others who are similarly 'shut inside'.
I have been wondering whether people have found that the site has changed in any way over the last year?
Themes/quantity of posts/membership/patience/tolerance?
Just curious!
Good points Laura Norder .
I wonder if it could be argued that forums such as this one have a duty of care just as it has been declared some television programmes have?
Hi all - thanks for your patience while we come back to your questions.
To clarify, we will always investigate reports, and not just take one user's word against another. When we receive a report this does not mean we will delete the post or suspend the user, but we will only take action where necessary, and not just because of the number of reports, so rest assured, a user will never be banned because another user dislikes them, and chooses to report them. If you're concerned that a post is on site when you don't think it should be, please do report it to us and we will take a look.
As we have already stated, bans and suspensions are not something we take lightly - and we will always contact the user with a number of warnings before taking such action. If our warnings are ignored, and the user continues to break rules, sadly this leaves us no choice but to take further action.
We're sure you'll appreciate that we can't discuss a particular user's circumstances publicly like this, and as it can vary so much from case to case, we can't get into details about specific disputes.
Doodledog - we're sorry you didn't receive an explanation behind the deletion. We're looking into this now, and we'll be in touch soon.

*GNHQ*. If a banned poster has not broken a law of the land then please reinstate.
By banning someone who lives alone, having nursed a very sick husband and having been widowed and then living alone through a national crisis which leaves many with gransnet as their only lifeline.
Are you going to be accountable for the possible repercussions of your actions?
Same question to the poster/posters who report such people.
Absolutely agree, LauraNorder
Very good points LauraNorder

Brilliant post.
And this is to you, Justine Roberts. Read the post @17.13 then think long and hard about your caring sharing Gransnet.
And to the 2 poster who reported ( I do believe there were 2) as I was reading that thread when it disappear, I hope you read the 17.13 post.
Am I correct that posters are also banned for sending nasty private messages and not just for what is written on here?

Good post LauraNorder, and I will second that.
GNHQ? What is your reply to that please?
Are we dealing with the newest moderators here or has this thread been brought to the attention of those at the top of the chain of command?
also your post of Mon 01-Feb-21 17:05:17 which is a good summing up as is that of GillT57, if I may mention names.
N&G What we are is a cash cow.
I agree, this is a commercial enterprise, not run for our benefit, but for profit.
Why should they care about anyone's circumstances, how distressed anyone is by their knee-jerk decisions as long as the £ still role in?
Those who shout loudest about being bullied often do not see that they can be bullies too, driving members away over the years.

Callistemon ?
But if the person concerned did manage to rejoin under a new identity, what assurances would she have that someone wouldn't recognise her posting style, "grass her up" to GNHQ? Why on earth anyone would do that is beyond me. Reinvented posters are only discovered if they are reported, I am sure GNHQ don't micro analyse every post to check.
Hello all, we're given as much detail as we can on this thread and our Netiquette is here too for you to look over and which should answer all of your questions.
As we've explained our aim is to make Gransnet as welcoming a place as possible for everyone - open enough for robust discussion, but safe enough to feel that you can do so without being bullied. This is why we ask that everyone stick to our guidelines. If it becomes clear that a user is unable to do so then we need to take further steps. We know it is impossible to keep everyone happy on a site like this and there will be some of you who disagree with our decision, but it's worth noting that we don't make permanent bans without ample warning and good reason.

And to StellaGransnet please reconsider.
Really feels far too draconian... no bullying took place. That is nonsense.
StellaGransnet
You are missing the point.
I have figured out who the thin dog lady is and I really can't believe that she could be banned.
She has always been one of my favourite posters and I really hope that she can return.
Absolutely Lauraorder.
I second that - please reconsider StellaGransnet. You must realise that as so many people want a reinstatement the person concerned is very far from a bully. She has offered endless support to many people and it would seem that things she has written have been misconstrued.
This has left a very nasty taste in the mouth Gransnet!
Agree with Callistemon, Lauranorder and Dragonfly.
GNHQ
Could we please have a definition of what you see as bullying?
It is a serious allegation, and it would be good to know how you are defining it.
You are just repeating the same old same old stellargransnet
We cannot ‘behave ’ if we don’t know what that behaviour looks like
The person who has been banned is an intelligent well thought of poster if they can be banned then any of us can and may. well be
You cannot punish without knowing all facts and you cannot know all facts by listening to accusers or ‘reporters’ only
After trying to keep quiet about biba for some time I've "known" her on forums for some years. Not just this one. She has created this kind of crisis situation before - I gather also a recent ban.
@biba - as it happens so regularly, try to look at it from other people's point of view rather than blaming others all the time.
Pecs analysis on a previous page was spot on.
I'll probably be banned too, but this has gone too far.

Thank you. It needed saying. Lots of us knew but didn't know how far to go with posting that info.
I am so disappointed by GNHQ’s responses. On this forum people to whom I quite often have opposing views have posted in support of the banned poster as have those with who m I would often agree.
Almost without exception we have come together to protest at this ban.
GNHQ you still have not answered posters questions.
1. Set out the "rules in clear and concise terms ie. why can we ask about a missing poster on one thread but not on another?
2. What do you perceive as bullying? It seems that often its a case of the same person crying foul when all that happened was the post was written in a way that could be misconstrued.
3. Why not give the accused an opportunity to apologise to the offend party and possibly explain their intended meaning.
4. why is there no right of appeal? Even GNHQ can get it wrong!
