Sorry but I feel somebody is digging their heels in here not wanting to lose face or something.
Good Morning Thursday 13th August 2026
I am a 'lockdown-joiner' to this forum, welcoming the opportunity join in with others who are similarly 'shut inside'.
I have been wondering whether people have found that the site has changed in any way over the last year?
Themes/quantity of posts/membership/patience/tolerance?
Just curious!
Sorry but I feel somebody is digging their heels in here not wanting to lose face or something.
I agree Lucca
Yes, that would seem to be the case
Some years ago biba was banned from this site. But not under this name.
Oh, what went wrong on the "Disappointed in Captain Tom" thread? It has been deleted!! Not in the spirit of Gransnet and they don't see it going well!
That must have been a sudden deterioration. I posted about 15 minutes ago, it wasn't aggressive on there then, just people with different opinions and have just been back to take a look.
Stellagransnet- please may I have an answer to my question- I have asked it often enough but it has been ignored. Why am I on a final warning for life when I have done nothing criminal?
Good lord, I’ve just peeped on to the disappointed in C Tom site, decided not to post as I have mixed feelings. 10 minutes later it’s gone. There was nothing untoward that I saw.
Please answer Charleygirl another poster who is always reasonable. Hope she doesn’t mind my saying is also alone and potentially vulnerable.

Ditto
Good grief!
And, I think you should take final warning from Charley and EllenV (and anyone else who has one.
It is cruel in the extreme!!
Come on Gransnet this isn’t on and don’t just roll out the same ole same ole
THIS IS NOT GOING AWAY
So why are 10 pages suddenly missing?
Hello all! I joined recently so I can’t comment on how it has changed this past year. I can say how much I am enjoying this site. People seem very friendly. I stumbled upon this site but can’t remember how or where. One thing that I enjoy is reading the responses from the UK. I’m in America and we use some words differently but we have a lot in common.
Are they? There are 23 for me now, and it was 20 not that long ago, so I don't seem to be missing any.
I’ve been on GN since it began and I do think there has been a change in how the site is moderated. There were many feisty threads in the early days and one or two posters locked horns on occasion, but in the main the reminder to ‘play the ball and not the (wo)man’ was encouraged by posters rather than GNHQ and instead of deleting posts or threads willy nilly the moderator would occasionally post a message of caution if things were getting heated. The moderators then seemed to be reading the threads in real time and not waiting for a poster to direct them to a ‘problem’.
In all my years on GN I have never, ever, reported a post - except for spam or to draw attention to a poster who was wanting to connect to GNHQ, for example to correct a mistake or merge threads. Some years ago I was targeted by a newish poster who made life rather unpleasant (she was threatening to involve herself in my real life work), but I removed myself for a short while and when I returned she’d been banned and hasn’t returned.
To go straight from a warning to being banned is draconian in my view. An initial suspension, of say three months or so, is in most cases enough of a deterrent for most people I’m sure. My husband is fond of saying that if you only have a hammer then everything needs pounding. If the Mods are not reading the threads themselves then every reported post is isolated from the context as a whole.

Could we please have a definition of what you see as bullying?
It is a serious allegation, and it would be good to know how you are defining it.
Yes, a definition would be a good idea rather than vague references to guidelines and "don't say anything online that you wouldn't say to someone's face".
Well, I don't think anyone has said anything in a post that they would not be prepared to say in person - in fact I think everyone, including the banned-for-life poster, has been remarkably restrained in their expressions of exasperation.
No they are back Elegran how strange.
I too have been on the site since it began, and I agree with Grannyactivist
If this was a court of law and a jury were involved, there would be no case to answer. The majority of people on here have agreed that there was no apparent bullying to warrant the lifetime ban.
I too believe it's a matter of losing face. The integrity of GN has been compromised by this debacle and there are no winners in this mess.
It saddens me to say that on at least two occasions, I contacted HQ to say I felt that the banned poster and those on a final warning were the victims of collusion and concerted goading, with the hope at the very least of getting them suspended. I know for certain, that I am not the only poster who felt this way.
I am not naive and admit that the posters involved can be quite forthright and outspoken, but they are genuine. Better that than the fake posters who invent idyllic lives to seduce us.
I also stressed that HQ have a duty of care to be mindful of the mental and emotional wellbeing of ALL their members.
I have grave concerns for the wellbeing of the Gransnetter in the midst of all this. A great injustice has been done and she cannot defend herself. Therefore we have to try and do it for her.
Many of us, who are extremely vulnerable, rely on GN for the social interaction and companionship that we are missing during these difficult times.
It has been a life saver for me. To deprive people of that is cruel. I am so sad and angry at what has happened.
posters should remember their manners when posting anything, do as you would be done by in what you say.
Fennel thank you, very brave of you but posters need to know the truth.
I was aware of this from another source too, not Gransnet.
It seems that GNHQ are prepared to believe whoever squealed loudest and I am surprised that they have not taken a long, hard look at their decisions, considering the strength of feeling on this thread. So many, who may differ on other subjects, are in agreement that an injustice has been done and that more injustices are threatened.
Well said Marydoll.
Marydoll , what a well composed post, making all the right points.
GNHQ. Please can we appeal to a higher authority. We don’t like your decision and we want permanent banning rules overturned an replaced by something less punishing.
Who is on charge please, and may we communicate with that person and air our complaints?
Marydoll, totally agree with you, I think that the moderators don't see to be able to understand what the majority are saying, all the responses so far are not addressing our points .
