Which actors do you consider over rated?

I think we should differentiate between OTT adulation for a good actor and inexplicable praise for a mediocre one. With a special category for good actors who have got stuck in a repetitive but lucrative rut. First sort - well, Coleman and Dench CAN'T be as good as they're made out to be! No-one could.

I think most of the soap actors are just playing themselves - no great skill in that. Jennie Seagrove is always the same, wooden actress in everything she does, and Anne Reid is just a basic, mumsie sort of person in all her roles.

I saw Gentlemen. Brilliant film and Hugh Grant was excellent!

Its going back a bit but I saw an old 50s film set in London a few months back on TPTV and it starred George Raft. He was totally wooden, as if someone was holding up a board with his words on and he just read them out. (Maybe true!) Johnny Depp is a more up to date one. Very overrated.

Mandy Patinkin can't comment on as an actor but a singer, wonderful.

Some people found him attractive but I never did.

Olivia Colman, who always plays herself. She’s just not that interesting.

John Wayne, Michael Caine and Sean Connery. Useless! IMO.

Hugh Grant has become a much better actor with age. Absolutely amazing in Gentlemen. Nice to see he’s shaken off the bumbling English man Americans seem to love watching

Kristen Stewart - she pretty much just does wooden, pained or constipated.

Can agree re Olivia Coleman - she's still Bev, of Bev and Kev in their 'whizzy' car.

I agree with you about Kristen Stewart or woodentop as I call her. Instantly turn off when she is in anything

Hugh Grant, Nigel Havers , Michael Caine, Danny Dyer don't know what the fuss is about. Find them all annoying

Keira Knightly and most the young actors in the soaps. The older ones are more realistic

Nicole Kidman - can't understand the plaudits for her acting and at the other end of the spectrum - Brian Blessed, who has become a caricature - please retire from interviews and panel shows, too.......

Danny Dyer is trying very hard to be a 'geezer' and failing. I don't want to sound over critical as we have watched a lot of TV over the last year (why, I wonder?) and seen many sublime performances; there are some character actors who can, with a glance, convey such emotion. However, with many others, I think Daisy is pretty appalling in Coronation Street, Fizz grates on my nerves and Dev behaves like a man trying to keep a lid on mania -what is going on with that voice? However, Jane Danson's performance as the mother of a dying child warrants an Oscar - she was outstandingly good.

I love Hugh Grant but have to agree he always played the romantic lead in the same way when he was younger. He was brilliant in a Very English Scandal as others have said. Also a comic genius in Florence Foster Jenkins. Sinister in The Undoing. Haven’t seen Paddington but might look it up.
Also adore Maggie Smith but she always plays Maggie Smith, same mannerisms, same arch looks and pursed mouth.
Olivia Coleman, especially in The Favourite, awful cringeworthy performance, didn’t she get an Oscar for it?
Can’t think of any others at the moment.

I was going to mention Hugh Grant in Florence Foster Jenkins. He was very good. Also in that film the piano player played by Howard the guy from The Big Bang Theory. He was also very good.

Another vote for Keira Knightly and Daniel Craig. Oh and Julia Roberts. Bruce Willis. Jude Law.

Danny Dyer 100%. The big I am, with the dopey stare, he drives me nuts. Fizz and her silly voice and the guy who took over the restaurant in Corrie, his voice grated me it was so nasally. Thank goodness the cops got him!

Robert Hardy comes to mind.

And I know I shall get shot down for this, but Judi Dench comes to mind also.

Glad you said that and not me as I agree with you about Judi Dench but I was too cowardly to say it first.

Nicholas Cage. Particularly in the dire Con Air, where he talked as if he was slowly winding down. "Why.. didn't.. he.. just... put.. down..the... bunny.." So bad, it was funny.

Anthony Hopkins. Good in Remains Of The Day but, in general, I think that he over-acts.

Robert de Niro. And what will your next role be, Robert? A gangster? What a surprise.

Hugh Grant plays Hugh Grant in everything.

I don’t mind actors playing “themselves’ if they’re good at it like Judi Dench, it’s bound to happen if they’re popular and in loads of things. She played a great baddie in The Notebook.
Unconvincing actors to me are ones who are really comedians, Lee Mack, Alan Davies, Josh Widdicombe, Jo Brand, Billy Connolly. One dimensional characters, too self aware, no emotional range. Others like Ricky Gervais, Steve Coogan, Dawn French can do it and get under their character’s skin but they’re a minority.

Cannot agree about Nigel Havers and he is so gorgeous. He used to be the voice who answered when you phoned a certain insurance company. I rang him so often!
