Has anyone got a different perspective after watching last evenings interview?
I am be really interested to hear if any of you feel more or less pro the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Apparently the Queen wanted to hand over the the running of the Commonwealth to Meghan and Harry, a proposition they.were, at first, very interested in and delighted with. I wonder if we will ever know why this never materialised.
What I can't understand is why we as a nation have been labled as racist, when in reality we welcomed her with open arms, were so pleased for Harry that he'd found this, as we thought, lovely lady who clearly made him happy and all seemed so good. Along with everything else I found that comment really hurtful. An acknowledgement of our welcome would have been nice, but no, the RF are toxic, and we as a nation are racist! Even Archbishop Welby has been put on the spot and severely embarrassed. Is nothing beyond these two?!

What about saying the Welsh are great singers?
We are, seacliff, we are
Apart from those who are tone deaf.

The talk of the U.K. as being racist possibly holds some truth, however it is certainly out of the frying pan and into the fire,
as America has some of the most racist towns/cities that you can find. Of course if you are mega wealthy and can afford mansions have your own private beach and pay for top security then you possibly will not experience racism like your everyday person.

I am drawn to this thread like a moth to a flame, I really don’t know why.
It is rapidly approaching 1000 posts and I sincerely hope no-one will start it again.
I cannot see that anyone has had their perspective/ opinion changed, many of us had our thoughts on HandM long before Oprah and they were not likely to be derailed.

grin
annsixty the saga will continue

Get out your popcorn

It just increases my opinion that we should get rid of the royal family, I feel there is no room for self indulgence at such a ridiculous level paid for by the Tax payer.
They are protecting an alleged pedophile ( Andrew) and now some Z list actress wants her child to have a title so we can pay for him too
Makes my blood boil when there are so many food banks and homeless in this country

Lucca The Trevor Phillips article is the Weekend Essay at the end of the Comment section. He also talks about his family's struggles with a daughter with an eating disorder, which is very moving.

You could just post alternately

It’s all Meghan’s fault
It’s all Harry’s fault

Use copy and paste, it would be really quick

Joking apart though, I'm not a fan of 'thread killing'. People need to be free to post about what topics interest them and that should apply across the board. We don't have to agree on anything else, but that should stand.

A little tolerance goes a long way and often sets the example...

Casdon Sat 13-Mar-21 14:16:25

Meanwhile in the green valleys of the oppressed but still singing, we have weightier topics on our minds. I’ve probably offended half the (far too in my opinion) serious posters now, but we are inching towards 1000 posts nonetheless.

Sorry - I’m not going to be tolerant about another M and H tread and my intolerance should be tolerated. It’s not even as though anything new or original will be posted is it?

Mollygo Sat 13-Mar-21 14:23:44

I’m not a fan of thread killing either, but like Annsixty ‘I’m drawn to this thread like a moth to a flame’. I’ll try to stick to reading the tolerant posts on here instead of posting after this unless I have something I feel the need to say. 146

Hummm a bit of cross threading here - sorry- I was thinking of another type of thread killing elsewhere

I meant this thread, and you have been tolerated, even in your intolerance of everyone else's intolerance of intolerant royals.

Plus this isn't the only topic that loops round in ever decreasing circles. GN is like Groundhog Day at the best of times. I guess we just have to tolerate it.

I began to think my mind was playing tricks when I was trying to recall an episode of the Windsors sitcom. So I revisited Series 2 episode 7 “Royal Wedding Special” last night which was aired in 2018. I was astonished at how the script writers had H&M living in the US and even portrayed them doing a tv chat show interview in LA. In the scene they are sitting in the same pose as the Oprah interview with M’s hand tightly gripped on H’s.

I recommend it if you can find it. It was originally on channel 4 but when I searched for it my tv led me to Netflix.

It's weird that this thread started going really downhill with irrelevant posts just after the new thread was put up. It's almost like an exasperated venting on here about that thread over there!

The question of what really did happen on that fishing trip has exercised my mind for years.
Now it will be joined by who said what to whom and when?

elm10 Sat 13-Mar-21 14:54:19

How could someone so privileged throw away such a golden opportunity to change the mind set of so many individuals through their Commonwealth work. I am mixed race, born to a black father and German mother in 1950. No one but my parents know how they suffered to survive in this country following WW2. I feel let down, disappointed and bewildered at Meghan's interview with Oprah. Megan did what many young girls can only dream of. In my mind she has achieved her ultimate goal. Marrying a Prince and returning to her homeland. Manipulative and deceitful is my opinion. Harry I wish you well but I fear you may be suffering.
