Morning, I don’t have any idea why, but I had a yearning for a Royal Scot biscuit yesterday! Anyone else have a longing for now unavailable food?

Beechnut Wed 10-Mar-21 10:47:53

Foxglove I used to have a badge that said Feed Aztecs to me.

Nearest to Royal Scot are the Shorties biscuits available in many supermarkets.
I miss Barmouth biscuits - the joy of dunking, whipping them out quickly enough and melt in the mouth that had a slightly toffee edge to it!
Caramac is still available at quite a few online stores - there used to be a Mr Simms sweetshop that sold it and other old style sweets -but I think they went bust!

NanaPlenty, I think we only had them about once a year, we didn't qualify as 'posh', though my DM could be rather Hyacinth Bouquet at times!!! grin

Gwenisgrat1 There's a traditional sweetshop in Truro. They sell sherbet fountains. You can buy sweets by the ounce/lbs too. Years ago my granddaughter looked amazed when I took her in there and asked for 4oz of acid drops.

I miss Potato Puffs.

Midnight Mint choc ices.

The Frys bar that was a mix of colours (probably tasted vile, but I liked them as a child).

The lime barrel in Quality Street.

Me too Foxglove77 - though strangely i hate horlicks as a drink! But i used to crunch my way through those little packs of Horlicks tablets no problem. And the aztec bars were delicious?.

Nannan2 Wed 10-Mar-21 10:54:46

And yes Gagajo- loved all those too, my word, when did they all dissapear, maybe the confectioners should bring them back!??

I used to love Royal Scot biscuits and especially with Italian white ice cream.

Theres a lady with a sweet stall on our local market(well when we're not in lockdown!) And shes about 60-ish id say- she never bats an eyelid when i ask for 4oz, or a 'quarter' of something!?

SueLindsey Wed 10-Mar-21 10:59:38

Dark chocolate bar with marzipan in. When they were talking about the 4 minute warning of a nuclear attack in the 1960s and 70s I always thought I would keep one handy to make the most of my 4 mins.!!

They did bring back Aztec bars for a while but they didn't taste as good as I remembered them.

Iced Gems - my mother used to call the, ‘Fairy’s wedding cakes’.

posset Wed 10-Mar-21 11:01:15

Condensed milk in a tube - oh and pontefract cakes ( I guess you can probably still get those in old fashioned sweet shops)

Nannan2 Wed 10-Mar-21 11:04:58

Gannygangan- loved that too- and they used to do chocolate 'cigarettes' too.yet somehow we never really connected any of that with real smoking- just used to tear off the paper wrappers& munch the sweets.(& no I've NEVER been a smoker!)

Lexisgranny Wed 10-Mar-21 11:05:05

GagaJo. I think you are talking about Fry’s Five Boys, which had five rather sickly fruit flavoured creams. The boys in question all had very rosy cheeks and what my mother used to call turnip top hairstyles.

GreyKnitter Wed 10-Mar-21 11:10:38

I used to love some crisp type treats called potato puffs. Yummy. But then I do love anything in the way of crisps. ??

GagaJo Wed 10-Mar-21 11:10:38

Oooo candy cigarettes. Chalky but nice. LOL

The only memory I have are of the colours Lexisgranny. It was the novelty value I think.

LuckyFour Wed 10-Mar-21 11:13:03

I used to love Clarnico mint creams pce612. Are you sure they're not available. I'm going to look them up right now.

ecci53 Wed 10-Mar-21 11:13:05

Another vote for Aztecs, delicious. Anyone remember Heinz Mock Turtle soup, I used to love it.
