I’ve realised all the threads I’ve started have been asking about things you dislike - noises, words, films etc. So let’s hear about things you love to hear, smells that remind you of a lovely memory, anything that makes you smile inside.

My first is both a smell and a sound. A stable with the unmistakable smell of horse, and the sound of contented munching of hay. ( thank you narrowboatnan). I just love it.

Smell and sound of the sea on the North Cornish Coast. Reminds me of long hot summer days wearing peep toed sandals and walking down to the beach. Floating in rock pools and eating warm pasties. Then walking back up picking and eating blackberries.

grandmajet Thu 18-Mar-21 20:27:12

I’m there with you. I can smell the pasties!

Love the smell of grated nutmeg. Reminds me of mum making her egg custards.

Smell ....mown grass
Word.....squadron leader. (V.sexy)
Sound.....blackbird singing

Nutmeg and junket with clotted cream for me?

Bellanonna Thu 18-Mar-21 20:45:09

The smell of spring in the air. The sound of the first chiffchaffs that arrive here. Also the first whiff of burning leaves in autumn. The sound of cowbells in foreign mountains and the tinkling of ice cold streams

The smell of line dried sheets and the sound of real, genuine laughter.

Pantglas2 Thu 18-Mar-21 20:48:41

Birdsong and water trickling in a river or fountain.
People laughing and children chattering to themselves
The tonic fizzing over the ice and lemon and gin
The smell of food cooking.....very few things I don’t like.

Bellanonna Thu 18-Mar-21 20:50:07

The smell of new pages in a book

Jaxjacky Thu 18-Mar-21 21:00:34

The sound (and sight) of real, makes your ribs hurt. laughter, whatever age (I snort!).
Garlic, cigarettes (ex smoker), outside food; rain on warm ground; imperial leather soap-a long ago affair.

Grannybags Thu 18-Mar-21 21:07:51

The smell and sounds of a small baby.
The sound of tyres crunching on gravel
Smell of new mown lawn
I agree with grandmajet about the smell and sound of horses in a stable

ixion Thu 18-Mar-21 21:16:15

The sound of OH's key in the lock, safely home after another too-long day at work.

grandmajet Thu 18-Mar-21 21:31:47

These are all wonderful. Thank you.

Kate1949 Thu 18-Mar-21 22:04:24

Tje sound of laughter. The smell of washing that's been dried in the fresh air.

NotSpaghetti Thu 18-Mar-21 22:05:33

The smell of hot earth in the rain.

Blossoming Thu 18-Mar-21 23:03:47

The cry of a curlew. Sound of summer for me.

grandmajet Fri 19-Mar-21 06:13:47

Grannybags, not all the smells of a small baby surely!

BigBertha1 Fri 19-Mar-21 06:20:31

Smell new bread and ground coffee for breakfast.
Sound birdsong and calls esp curlews heard on the noth yorkshire moors.

I agree about baby smells - they are so evocative and trigger all sorts of motherly instincts. Even the poo smells sweet. And baby sick just smells milky.

Words: Popocatapetl

Sounds - Please NOT trickling water or anything which just goes on and on. Drives me mad. Something that has a beginning, a climax, and an end. Like a Beethoven symphony

Smell - every evening meal

Sound - nearby waterfall

Word - serendipity

mumofmadboys Fri 19-Mar-21 10:05:02

Discombobulated! Love the sound of that word!

Witzend Fri 19-Mar-21 10:06:47

A baby’s laugh. ❤️

Gdcs’ first attempts at saying granny and grandpa (nanny and ba-pa). I never wanted to be ‘nanny’ but from them it was so sweet to hear.

All birdsong that is actually song and not squawk, like the blasted parakeets around here. Or crows and magpies, come to that.

Dh saying, ‘Cup of tea?’ ?

Newly cut grass---I just breathe in the smell. Hay as well. Wild flowers in a field. Powerful smells of flowers.

The sound and sight of a plane taking off. Magic to see tons of aircraft lifting into the air. I'm quite an anorak on the quiet grin
