And questions have been raised about Mr Biden’s mental, and physical, acuity. The president on Thursday accidentally called Kamala Harris, Vice President, “President Harris”.

Throughout the election campaign he has engaged in numerous malapropisms, slurred words, mispronouncing words and misidentifying people, such as calling his wife Jill his sister.

I’ve noticed he seems to make a point of jogging on stage up to the microphone to address an audience.

I’m concerned this 78 year old really isn’t as well as is hoped.

What an age for a man to be POTUS. When you think that out of all the people in America you’d think someone fitter could represent them. Kamala is waiting in the wings I suppose.

Nigel Farage did not get all he wanted - he didn’t get a seat in parliament or any UKIP/Brexit party MPs. He didn’t get the treaty he wanted either - control of fishing waters , N.I. still in customs union etc. So hardly the most successful politician ever.

He got Brexit, though. And was deeply feared by the tory party. So much so that they have now become UKIP.

So not really total failure.

To be fair though Alegrias1 whilst people may accuse the royal family of many things, I think it’s pretty safe to say that the queen hasn’t lost any of her marbles. Not that I think Biden has either. Age has nothing to do with this. Sadly we all suffer from physical decline though.

Several posters have said he's too old for the job. Double standards unless those posters are also recommending the abdication of the Queen on the grounds of age.

It’s worrying that when anyone shows the smallest bit of patriotism on GN they get called populist or now the in phrase white supremacist.

I'm intrigued by what you think you are being patriotic about. The USA isn't, for the vast majority of us, our country.

Galaxy Sat 20-Mar-21 09:01:34

I think that's a fair enough point. I can imagine what would happen if I started a thread on the Queens health and perceived frailty

There have been numerous posts on patriotism on GN, and those of us who are proud to be English are generally used to being called populists and accused of jingoism, it’s becoming repetitive and frankly quiet boring.

Meanwhile it’s totally ok to be proud of being Welsh, Scots or Irish?

The difference is that The Queen has taken a back seat before Covid-19, with Prince Charles and Prince William taking over most of her duties.

She is not running the country.

Didn't Angela Merkel do a bit of swaying and holding onto things for a while? She seems fine and very capable.

BlueBelle Sat 20-Mar-21 09:11:26

Sorry * monica* if my posts gave that impression it wasn’t intended I totally agree with you and what you were saying and I know you were supportive of Biden (bloody written word my fault for wording or spacing it wrongly)
Farage did not get us out of Europe otherwise he’d be riding triumphant not slunk away back to the woodwork, we were pulled out by a right wing lying government and a turncoat of a man who changed from being a supporter of EU to saving he skin by changing his stance

No I wasn’t unfair to you Umstrong you have acted disingenuously pretending you are worried about the mans health it’s a disguised (not very well disguised) ploy to discredit him in a concerned way Thats worse than coming out and saying what you really think very passive/ aggressive

Galaxy Sat 20-Mar-21 09:11:50

She should step down then. Absolutely ridiculous to pretend she is head of state then if she is not up to it. I dont believe this but you cant have it all ways.

You don’t have to be a Trump supporter to be concerned that all is not well with Joe Biden. It is no longer between him and Trump. If he does have early stage dementia and it worsens then it will be Kamala Harries who takes over. I find all these criticisms of Umstrong very distasteful. I don’t agree with you Bluebelle. Time will see how it all pans out but it’s not going to be Trump, at least not till 2024 and then it will be up to the American people.

Pot? Kettle? BlueBelle you are now attributing me with thoughts you think I have. Stop please. I am genuinely concerned. I have eyes to see.

suziewoozie Sat 20-Mar-21 09:45:17

JB appears to have a very strong experienced team around him unlike Trump whose team changed regularly and who were no great shakes yo start with.

*Just to make myself clear vegansrock. Farage wanted us out of the EU and he wanted to enrich himself at the expense of the rest of us. He wanted power and he wanted to be seen as a man of the people. He didn't really care about anything else except as a stepping stone on the way to getting us out of the EU.
I certainly don't support him in any way, shape or form.*

Sounds like Nicola Sturgeon who wants out of the UK at the expense of anything else ? how strange.

So do the majority of Scots and they haven't needed any winding up with incessant and blatant lies to come to that conclusion.

The democrats have a history of choosing unsuitable candidates for president
PGAgirl

The Democratic party pick the candidates and the people elect the President.
Are you saying that Republican choices over the years are more suitable than Democratic ones?

???

Firecracker123 Sat 20-Mar-21 10:18:53

Actually support for Scottish Independence is falling after the Salmond and Sturgeon fiasco.

Some people must have their heads in the sand, Queen Nicola has been giving a party political broadcast every day and Ian Blackford at PMQs week after week going on about independence if there ever was a one trick pony party they certainly fit the bill.

Oldwoman70 Sat 20-Mar-21 10:19:19

I have no strong feelings about Biden's policies (I'm not that au fait with American politics), however, as I am someone who can choke on fresh air and trip over a piece of paper I do find the comments about his health and mental capacity to be unfair. Unless you have access to his medical records no-one should be making assumptions about his health.

Casdon Sat 20-Mar-21 10:27:42

Again the same people and the same arguments- how have we got from Biden being allegedly past his best to Scottish independence, digs at other nations have nothing to do with the original post?
The material point is surely that falling down some steps and stumbling over his words doesn’t mean he’s not up to doing his job. The two don’t correlate.

M0nica Sat 20-Mar-21 10:28:47

^The democrats have a history of choosing unsuitable candidates for president
PGAgirl^

Democrats: Kennedy, Obama Carter, even Lyndon Johnson and Clinton

Republicans: The Bush family, Nixon, Trump

I rest my case.

But it does appear over-the-top concern and one whipped up by the right-wing press both here and in the US. It seems you want to be concerned Urmstongran and it seems that you want to be concerned because it fits with your personal politics.

Callistemon Sat 20-Mar-21 10:34:28

I don't even need a piece of paper, Oldwoman70 and no, I don't "have falls", I am just clumsy. Perhaps it has always been undiagnosed dyspraxia as mentioned above.

Anyone can trip at any age

Let’s all meet up again next Saturday after Biden has had his first live interview for state tv next Friday 25th? I shall be interested to see how he handles questions without a teleprompter.

That does sound a bit “rubbing hands with anticipatory glee”
