And questions have been raised about Mr Biden’s mental, and physical, acuity. The president on Thursday accidentally called Kamala Harris, Vice President, “President Harris”.

Throughout the election campaign he has engaged in numerous malapropisms, slurred words, mispronouncing words and misidentifying people, such as calling his wife Jill his sister.

I’ve noticed he seems to make a point of jogging on stage up to the microphone to address an audience.

I’m concerned this 78 year old really isn’t as well as is hoped.

What an age for a man to be POTUS. When you think that out of all the people in America you’d think someone fitter could represent them. Kamala is waiting in the wings I suppose.

He has also called the Vice President, President Kamala this week not looking good.

Anything positive to say?

I'm expecting her to be President before his time is up. The first black President, and then the first woman President. It doesn't get much bettre, but quite scared as to what the Trumpites will do about it.

It really is astonishing that the Democrats chose Biden as the candidate. He is obviously struggling to such a degree that it was actually cruel to put him up. His physical and mental deterioration will be obvious to hundreds of millions of people across the entire world. If I was his wife or a member if his family I would be heartbroken.

At least he isn’t Trump, an incompetent fascist.

I do WWM2.

He has a speech impediment and has conquered it over the last few decades, enough that he can make speeches before the entire nation. FDR famously had polio and managed to run the country from his wheelchair with no-one knowing outside his immediate circle.

I'm 15 years younger than Biden and I can't get up a set of aircraft stairs without pausing to get my breath back due a lung condition I have.

I think he's fine.

Gannygangan Fri 19-Mar-21 20:33:32

I feel his pain.

I used to hate walking up aeroplane steps.

I had a similar fall myself but worse.

Ended up falling into the arms of a kind man as I tumbled down 4 steps. Very painful.

I was only about 24

It seemed to me in the run up to the American election that he kept jogging on to stages and platforms as if he was trying to show fitness in his late seventies.

If he hadn’t tried to skip up those steps in an effort to keep up the illusion, he wouldn’t have tripped and looked a prat.

Can you imagine the Queen being so daft?

Urmstongran Fri 19-Mar-21 20:38:05

It’s all about the optics here I agree Pantglas2.

May I ask where your information came from Urnstongran? I trust very little of this sort of news coming out of the US.

MerylStreep Fri 19-Mar-21 20:43:10

PippaZ
Take your pick. Sky news, the Independent, YouTube.

Urmstongran Fri 19-Mar-21 20:45:38

The 3 falls on the steps have just been shown on SKY news. The slip up calling Kamala Harris ‘President Harris’ yesterday was in the Telegraph newspaper.

Then again, he is not Mr Trump and therefore in the eyes of much of the world's media he is simply marvellous - and does it really matter that he can't tell you which day of the week it is?

I get that he is a really nice man who has had numerous very tragic events happen to him in his lifetime - all are well documented and I have read a lot about him.

It’s just that I really do not think he is up to the job.

And in my opinion it’s cruel and embarrassing to watch him struggle.

Alegrias1 Fri 19-Mar-21 20:52:53

There is a difference UG with a person with a speech impediment having slips of the tongue and him not knowing what day of the week it is.

He's not struggling, however much Fox News and the Telegraph would like you to think that he is.

A mini-stroke ? You can lose your balance for a split second and not realise that it was a TIA.

Goodness, you'll have the man in his coffin before Gogglebox starts.....

Nightsky2 Fri 19-Mar-21 20:57:41

Why couldn’t he just walk up the steps like any normal person.

Everyone knows he’s too old to run so why the act. He just looks ridiculous

Saying daft things as well.

PippaZ Fri 19-Mar-21 20:59:36

Let's look at such as calling his wife Jill his sister.

This from everyone's favourite - the Daily Heil - that famous supporter of the far-right who is unlikely to be glad that Biden had leap-frogged into first place on 4 March 2020

The former Vice President was addressing supporters with wife Jill and sister Valerie standing behind him after a bumper showing saw his political fortunes reversed as he leap-frogged Bernie Sanders into first place in the Presidential race.

At one point he went to introduce his sister to the crowd, but accidentally took his wife's hand before realizing his error.

Now I don't know about everyone else but I do not see senility I see a mistake as he reached behind - something I would be happy to laugh off but right-wingers might stretch the truth of something that happened a year ago, to breaking point.

How much did you fact check Urmstongran? I don't believe a word of the OP basically and won't until you show the facts behind it. I shall also report it as fake news.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 19-Mar-21 20:59:54

Right let’s now address his achievements since January.

Who would like to start the ball rolling?

PippaZ Fri 19-Mar-21 21:05:21

Please do Whitewave. This is very nasty work. Very nasty indeed. We all know the man had to overcome a stutter but that was just grist to Trumps mill and now appears to be the same of Grannies on here.

welbeck Fri 19-Mar-21 21:05:32

he was having to wear an orthopaedic boot until recently, for an injury. maybe it came off too soon.
as someone who fell recently, and has only just seen what my elbow looks like, explains what it feels like, i sympathise with the man.
maybe that red carpet on the steps could be changed to something more rubbery, with grip.

PippaZ Fri 19-Mar-21 21:07:11

Didn't Trump have to hold on to someone near him when going down stairs? That didn't make him incompetent he had been that all his life.

Urmstongran Fri 19-Mar-21 21:09:39

Not below the belt WWmk2
Didn’t he mix up his son (?) name on the hustings and his wife Jill nudged him to correct him?

Bring back Trump, please. quickly. The most peaceful president in 100 years
