Here we are again
Happy as can be
All good friends and jolly good company.

Welcome. Take a seat and enjoy our opening day celebration.

brook2704 Tue 13-Apr-21 21:30:05

Lovely to see you here synonymous I’m also quite new to the kitchen so I don’t think we’ve met before. Hoping things settle down and improve a little bit for you soon
soop hope you’ve recovered from your Ronseal disaster now - what a mess it must have been - the last thing you wanted! Anyhow hopefully you got is all sorted and you’re relaxing now
I’ve had another busy day with the DGC, I love them to bits but boy are they exhausting! A boisterous 7 year old and a Little Miss 6 year old are definitely wearing me out so I’ll be having an early night soon
I hope your DS enjoyed his birthday Anno and you have your long awaited family get together soon.
Hope you get to chat with your DS muse and all is well

aggie Tue 13-Apr-21 22:12:12

Oh Galen why were you in an ambulance ?

Bellanonna Tue 13-Apr-21 23:00:21

soop what an awful mishap. I hope you treated yourself to something nice to sip afterwards, and have managed to get rid of the turps smell.

We’re all going to the hairdresser. My appointment is on Thursday.

Galen, what a strange word indeed!

Grandmafrench Tue 13-Apr-21 23:07:14

Hello lovely Kitchen peeps ! Some of you seem to have been having a torrid time!

soop's rotten time reminds me of when I picked up something from a big garage shelf of paint pots and then finding a should-be-full pot which, believe it or not, had a split seam in the bottom and had slowly and deliberately emptied itself of paint onto the shelf, onto a lower shelf and loads of other pots, and onto a lower shelf and onto the floor.....you get the picture. It was the end of a hot afternoon last year and I was fit to blow a gasket when I spotted the mess. It must have been like that for months! It's just the total unmanageableness (made-up word!) of it all - the papers and rags and bags to dispose and where to stand stuff and trying to keep clean, as well as being damned tired, that makes it such a nightmare. Hopefully the Soop family are now are scrubbed down and in pristine form? Not sure how anyone would cope with Ronseal - and you threw away the top? Ye Gods. But, on the bright side, having looked up the Hot Paprika colour, I was thrilled to see such a delightful shade. You must be so proud of your efforts - when you're not knee deep in waste disposal, that is. When you've recovered, do nudge Fern out of the way and send a pic, please?

Galen that was awfully cryptic. You should not be in any Ambulance, anywhere - explain please, so we're not worried.

Long time no speaky, Syn. Many weeks will certainly have passed since I read of your doings. Weren't you all busy and setting up and planning a new garden along with a friend's help? Think I recall that your DH seemed to be in quite a positive mood then? Such a shame that he's obviously had a setback and is suffering now and can't see that making a move towards some outside support for his PTSD will probably not only shift his mood into a better gear and give him some new resources to depend on, but it will also make such a difference to both your lives, DD as well. Still, softly softly catchee monkey, as they say. No point in insisting but he does need to be talking through his feelings with someone qualified and giving you a bit of a break from the worry and responsibility. Fingers crossed he'll see a little light very soon.

If you're all having haircuts and vaccines and jolly times with the GC's and family, I am so pleased. If you're worried or struggling, please take care and be extra kind to yourself - and patient. Things will get better, you'll see. Glad you're over a (nother) small bump in the road, GrandmaB. x. You're o.k. hopefully, young Urms?

We've had a glorious day here, warm and blowy and sunny. I quietly re-potted some plants, changed the bed linen, washed a coverlet, washed some garden furniture, spotted some coastal helicopters, pruned some jasmine (it's gone mad!), fed lots of plants, and sat in the sun with my binoculars and some fresh pineapple and was almost given a middle parting by a Sparrowhawk which crossed the garden so fast and low that I think even he was surprised.

Don't worry muse - all us Mums deserve a bit of a break sometimes from worrying about our great big kids. Hope you're o.k., Cherry - take it easy if you need.

Panache thoughts, hugs and blessings to you both. xx ??

To you all, nighty night and sleep well. Tomorrow's another day and will likely be better. Stay safe always.

?‍♀️?

Doodle Tue 13-Apr-21 23:15:06

Galen what have you been up to now? Hope you’re ok.

Nannytopsy Wed 14-Apr-21 03:33:49

I knew in my heart it was a mistake to come to bed at 10.20pm! Woke at 2.30! ?. I’m sure I can hear gentle snoring coming from the rest of you lot.
Galen it’s lovely to see you but worrisome that you were in an ambulance. Syn another kitchener who has been missed. Difficult times but has it helped having your daughter with you? It seemed that things were on the up when I last saw a post. ?
Love to the Panaches .
Off to our nearest RHS garden tomorrow (today!) so I must try to sleep again. Night night.

cornergran Wed 14-Apr-21 07:55:51

Checking in your post worried me galen, hope you were simply being transported for something routine.

Apologies, can’t keep up with everyone’s news although how could I overlook your mishap soop? Goodness, that must have taken some cleaning up.

Take care everyone. TOYA.

Grandmabatty Wed 14-Apr-21 08:02:03

Goodness Galen. What's been going on? Ambulance trips? Muse I really hope your son gets in touch. We worry about our children even as adults, don't we? Grandmafrench is this a new hair style? Waved by sparrowhawk? I once had a sparrowhawk or some such bird stand in my garden and calmly eat it's catch. It was fascinating to watch, if a bit gory! Synonymous I'm sorry to hear that your dh is being difficult about treatment. It must be hard for you. Time for second cup of coffee and then off to Argos. I'll call into the kitchen later for the news. Tata.

soop Wed 14-Apr-21 09:42:51

I wanted to say hello before the electrician sets foot in the house. Also...much painting still be tackled outside the hoos.
I shall relate other stories of whatonearthamIgoingtodonow? moments when I've more time. shock wink

Galen What's going on? Are you home? Are you in hospital, and if so, why?

Syn I am also sorry to hear that your husband has been feeling well below par. When our "other" is suffering, we do too. flowers

muse Being a Mum comes with strings. Sometimes they look like ribbons. Sometimes they are awfully fragile BUT they never break. My good wishes to you.

Grandmafrench Our weather has been glorious. Hence we've packed as many outdoor jobs into every day. So far, our efforts have been rewarding. The worst moments are filed away in my memory box. One day, I shall be able to see the amusing side of the buggerations.

Yiayia4 Wed 14-Apr-21 09:56:13

Sorry to hear all of you having problems and hope today will be a better one.
Hairdressers tomorrow can’t wait, sad I know?
On Friday we have our four grandsons coming for tea in the garden and football in the park so looking forward to it first time all together for a year.
Have a good day everyone will be back later.

soop Wed 14-Apr-21 10:02:44

I am delighted for those of you with hair dressing appointments. I've still a while to wait. Also pleased that vaccinations are going according to plan. For those with iffy after effects, I understand that they do not linger for too long.

"Our cat" is on another safari. We are not unduly concerned. She will return at her own leisure. James Herriot, the vet, described cats as being connoisseurs of comfort. I agree.

Electrician due in five minutes. The cooker grill, when switched on, blows a fuse. A light in my wardrobe hasn't worked for three years and cannot be removed because it's jammed. And so life trundles on in it's own merry way.

I'm in my decorating gear and seated on newspaper. Who knows what will be added to the fabric during today. wink

A photo of last night's lovely sky.

I hope to be back with you all later today.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 14-Apr-21 10:35:26

Hello kitchen friends, I read the comings and going’s on this thread, but nothing much happening at Gravy Grange to post about.

I am going to the gym in a while, second time this week and afterwards off for a manicure and pedicure (not going anywhere to show it off but I am hoping it will go towards the boosting of my mojo!! ). Cannot get a hairdressing appointment until the end of next week, my hair is now halfway down my back, with a lovely colour contrast emanating from routes grey/dark blonde/light blonde (according to DD and DiL’s it’s called balliage (sp) and costs a small fortune to have done professionally ?

Galen why are you in an ambulance, have you been on the falling over juice again?

JustMe Wed 14-Apr-21 12:51:06

Hello all!

Went for an early 3 mile walk this morning, and picked just the right time, bright sunshine and now cloudy here.
Cannot wait for my haircut tomorrow!

Synonymous Wed 14-Apr-21 14:07:41

Second day in a row I am back in the kitchen so a bit of a record! As you say Grandmafrench long time no speaky.? My tablet died and so I am getting to grips with a new iPad -with DD’s help fortunately!
Second jabs done yesterday so just waiting for DD to be summoned to go for her first one.
Footings for the building nearly dug out and the concrete is to be poured tomorrow or Friday, methinks more likely to be Friday as the trenches are very deep and there is a fair bit of granite to get through on the last bit. Noisy job particularly yesterday, just couldn’t get away from it at all but glad to be able to see an end to it hopefully. I think they are doing that bit every other day perhaps to give us a break, loads to do anyway.

Interesting to hear that you were watching a sparrowhawk Grandmabatty because we had an interesting experience on Monday when DD called me out to our front porch. She could hear much squawking and flapping of wings coming from behind the wheelchair ramps I had leaned up against the side window there. A sparrowhawk had got it’s claws stuck in the bottom edge of the window and was having a real panic so I shot in and got my wood handling gloves and lifted it off and held it. The power in those wings was incredible and it was all I could do to hold on to it. I only held on long enough for us to have a really good look at it and it really was incredibly beautiful. I could feel the lift generated by the wings and it was amazing The bird soared straight up into the sky and then disappeared into the woods, it was quite a moment to see a living one so close.

I very much appreciate the support ref the psychology team appointment. This morning’s post brought another letter from the hospital and when I expressed interest I was rather grudgingly shown the letter offering another appointment so all is not lost. I just need to encourage him to go with it so here’s hoping. The choice of a phone call or online appointment doesn’t really cut it in the circumstances so I think we need to hold out for something better if at all possible. Himself will be pleased to put it off anyway.hmm

TOYA flowers

kittylester Wed 14-Apr-21 15:13:14

Galen - I do hope you were wearing pearls before you allowed yourself to be put in an ambulance - standards must be maintained. Just ask soop - she remembered to put newspaper down before seating herself.

I am not pleased to hear of people having their hair done - my appointment is not till 10 May. I upset my normal hairdresser by not wanting to go into town while the epidemic was rampant as our town is FULL of students (or was!) so I think she is paying me back,

I hope you have had a breakthrough with you Dh syn. It must be a worry and a trial for you.

I desperate need a pedicure GG but, to add insult to injury, my beautician (!!!!) is on maternity leave!!

TOYA

Puzzler61 Wed 14-Apr-21 15:26:51

I’m creeping into the kitchen quietly in case nannytopsy is catching up on her ?’s in a chair by the fire. I don’t know about any of you but having a disturbed night makes me feel like a wrung-out dishcloth the next day.
I hope Galen was wearing more than just pearls if she has been off in an ambulance kitty. It would be good if she could pop back and let us all know she is alright.
I’ve been to fetch viola’s from a very rural garden shop and they had 2 resident donkeys. I am very taken by donkeys and had to go up to the fence to greet them and take photo’s.
soop if a good spell of weather makes you as energetic as a Duracell bunny, goodness knows what you will be up to come summer. Please take it easy.
To all kitchen friends in the British Isles or the South of France, I hope you are having the best day you can.
It’s divine to be planning garden dining and meeting family on trips out. My family will be doing similar on Sunday.
Meanwhile I’ll leave you with a photo of one of my new donkey friends.

Grandmabatty Wed 14-Apr-21 15:51:48

Synonymous I'm really not sure if it was a sparrowhawk but it was a fairly large bird of prey. That was brave of you to get so close and rescue one. Today I have been to Argos, picked up a sandpit and sand for dgs, then put a washing out. I visited mum who was fairly pleasant - not always the case! Then I visited my friend for coffee and cake. Then a late lunch followed by an hour WhatsApp chat with friends. I've been out in the garden weeding and I'm about to have a cuppa. A very productive day for Batty. Soop these photos are stunning. The colours are amazing. Puzzler61 I too am very fond of donkeys. They seem friendlier than horses for some reason. The sunnier weather makes people feel better. Have a good day all.

Jaxjacky Wed 14-Apr-21 16:45:23

No sunshine here Grandmabatty, well, the odd glimpse, it was beaming at 7:30, then the cloud rolled in. I too have been to a friend’s garden for a cup of tea, it was 11deg and distinctly chilly. Other than hoovering, getting a picture delivered and booking DH a game of golf, it’s been quiet. Apart from, my hairdresser txt with a gap on Saturday at 3, she’s a friend too, it’ll be a back garden cut, she’s now my best friend!
Beautiful photo’s soop houses get in the way of any pictures here and cuddly donkeys Puzzler61, although in reality they’re bristly. I’m hoping it warms up Friday as DD and the GC’s are coming for bbq, chiminea and blankets will be deployed if necessary. Wishing you a gentle evening all, especially those absent for whatever reason.

BladeAnnie Wed 14-Apr-21 17:26:50

Good afternoon lovely kitcheners. Nannytopsy please tell me you went back to sleep?? Lots of haircuts being done atm - I'm holding out until the week before the wedding. Puzzler what a dear little donkey smile - is he the one you adopted? My second vaccination tomorrow - that's come round so quickly. Hope everyone has an enjoyable evening and virtual hugs to all who are in need of a little comfort

NanaandGrampy Wed 14-Apr-21 17:58:56

Afternoon all,

Glad to hear Fern has been back Soop that will have set your mind at rest ( now don't spill anything else lol) .

I am a big donkey fan Puzzler they have such gentle natures. We adopted one on a family holiday a few years ago and she sent us regular updates ! Clever donkey.

Hope all is well Galen had visions for a mo that you had stolen an ambulance and were joy riding around :-)

Nothing of real news here apart from the pursuit of a medical item missing from my prescription that is apparently out of stock everywhere due to the boat that got stuck In the Suez canal. The Chaos theory at work I suspect !!

Happy evening all x

Puzzler61 Wed 14-Apr-21 18:21:42

No BladeA it’s not the donkey I adopted (name of Acorn). This donkey is one of 2 in a field next to a farm shop I went to this morning. Just had to get a photo.
Great news you have your 2nd jab tomorrow. I hope it is done by a gentle vaccinator with no after effects. ?

muse Wed 14-Apr-21 18:34:25

Decided to come in as it's getting rather chilly out there. Such a change from this morning when I decided to escape all my gardening tasks.

Having read the brief text from dear son this morning, my worries still weigh heavy. He has said he will ring this weekend??

I needed to lighten my spirits, so now we can go further afield, I drove the giddy distance of 15 Cornish miles for a walk with Mya. 30 mins later I arrived and at one of my favourite places. I used to be able to do the path that takes you to the steps and then to the beach. These days I do about half the path. The steep climb back is too much for my hips. There's a tea room at the car park. As needs must, I sat outside with a coffee and cake before the return journey home.

There didn't seem much point in starting gardening when I got back so had a bit of wandering through other GN threads hmm

Puzzler61 Lovely photo.
soop I had the same thoughts about the after effects from the vaccines. They do vary and for so many different reasons. Whilst some have suffered for lengthy periods, everyone (I think) has had no long lasting effects, except for making some very apprehensive about having the 2nd one. It's our this Saturday. Beautiful night sky photos.

Happy evening to all and especially our missing friends. I'm sure they are looking in on us ??

Nannytopsy Wed 14-Apr-21 18:47:54

Yes, I had more sleep and we went for our RHS trip. We had a takeaway from the cafe - a meal we didn’t plan, buy, cook and clear up! It was such a treat!
Where art thou Galen ?

Doodle Wed 14-Apr-21 19:35:22

muse You have said in the past that he always phones you when he is feeling bad. Perhaps the fact that he will wait till the weekend means he is ok. I do hope so.
Galen the mistress of intrigue. Pops in to leave a cryptic one liner then leaves us in suspense. ?. Hope you are ok.
Hope all the kitcheners are well and coping ok.
TOYA ?

brook2704 Wed 14-Apr-21 20:00:47

Such beautiful photos muse hope you don’t mind me asking but where on the coast is that? We’ve done a lot of walking the South West Coastal Path and just wondering if we’d actually walked that bit and probably visited the tea room too ..
It’s been another beautiful day here in Inverness, clear blue sky for most of the day and not much wind. We had a lovely walk this afternoon after dropping the DGC at home, It’ll be another early night for me as I’m happy but exhausted...
