I'm delighted for their whole family. Lovely! I found his spontaneous enthusiasm decidedly pleasant.

He's a new dad with a baby son which is lovely. Too many miserable people on GN just now.

Yes imo and that of many online sources it is derogatory. You don’t really hear it much these days but I would say it sort of means ‘slag’. If anyone used it to me in RL I would be horrified.

Meant to add I too dislike the use of bint.

I have little time for royalty and their hangers on but my goodness what a nasty comment OP.
They seem to be a decent, down to earth couple. I wish them well.

When I lived near Plymouth in the sixties, the word ‘bint’ was commonly used for a girl, maybe slang imported by the visiting sailor population. It seems to have gone downhill in its meaning since then!

The word is Arabic for girl/daughter and was first introduced into English with the occupation of Egypt in the C19. Even then it started to mean ‘bit on the side’. I remember my uncle ( who served in the ME during WW2) using it during my childhood ( I guess he’d picked it up there) and my mum shushing him with a pointed look in my direction.

We had two delightful daughters and eleven years later had our amazing son, so I know how delighted they must both be. And I am very glad for them too - they seem like such a down to earth couple

What an unkind OP! I haven’t seen the clip in question but I don’t think I need to, to know that pouring scorn on someone for being delighted in the safe arrival of a new baby is mean-minded.

Denigrating one person’s delight doesn’t make anything better for anyone else. I think new life coming into this world is a sign of hope and joy.
