Do you ‘spring clean ? And if so , what.....

There is more to life than cleaning. When I was younger the garden took priority although I used to redecorate the rooms quite often which meant they were clean.
Now I have a helper who comes every morning but she is not very good at cleaning but she is so helpful in other ways that it doesn’t worry me.

I agree that the tradition probably arose from the days of a winter of coal fires. I do things on an as need basis, althought I do clean the bathroom every couple of days and the kitchen every day, apart from the floor. We have a very hairy dog in need of a good haircut so there are lots of tumbleweeds of fur which necessitate vacuuming more than I would like! I don't take curtains down as we only have them in the bedrooms and they just don't get dirty or even dusty.

Sort of. It just happens as the light and warmth come. Last week, took everything out of the summer house - de-cobwebbed, chucked horrible cushions etc. This week found myself doing the dishwasher seals and filters and so it goes.

I did a major spring clean this time last year, at the start of Lockdown 1. Have lost interest in cleaning now, maybe until we can have visitors again.

I love a spring clean! Wash cushion covers, curtains that can be washed. I do all the throws and bed covers! It’s a wonderful feeling of freshness. Open all the windows! Yes you clean regularly but it’s nice doing a deeper clean!

Yes, I house clean thoroughly every year before Christmas and again before Easter.

I couldn't possible celebrate either in a dirty house!

Kitchen cupboards and pantry, plus freezer done before Christmas, windows cleaned before both festivals, all floors washed, washing and ironing seen to and the flotsam and jetsam of every day life put away or thrown out as applicable.

Bathroom thoroughly cleaned as well.

Both my mother and gr mother would spring clean their homes . Not for me with so many 'labour' savers becoming available to chose from that will and can keep our homes with that 'spring' clean look all year round.
Decorating, how ever ,I will leave to a' man /woman who can.

No I don’t spring clean, I dust and hoover most days and if I see something needs cleaning I will do it or ask hubby to do it if I can’t reach,so no need to spring clean

Nope. I didn’t inherit a cleaning gene. I just do things as I go along ... there’s always a book to be read or a cake to be baked ?

No but I try to do things at certain times of year i.e wash curtains in Spring, clean food cupboards before I start getting extras in for Christmas. That way I only spend an hour or so at a time on it and everything is automatically given a thorough clean at least once a year.

Yes, I spring clean, curtains need washing, curtain rails need cleaning and checking all the hooks are in place, skirting boards behind the furniture and carpets shampooing, I try to do a thorough clean throughout the year but there are always bits left to be done and it is nice to feel it is all done. I also try to do a full clean before Christmas so we go into the New Year with a clean house.

Sad to say I'm a slut who does the bare minimum of cleaning. When relatives were coming over last year at the time when we could only meet in the garden but use the WC if required, I cleaned my downstairs loo extremely thoroughly. I realised there were areas that probably had never seen a damp cloth in the whole 17 years I've lived here!

I work on the basis my house is clean enough to be healthy but dirty enough to be happy. When you live alone the germs are mostly your own so it's quite easy so I only really clean if someone is coming round. This year has been wierd - cleaning stuff that you bring in but what's already here gives no worries because no visitors!

I don’t deliberately Spring Clean but I do find that at this time of year as the days become longer, I automatically ‘bottom’ my house.
I usually clean the carpets, all the windows and glass doors, paintwork all the way through and skirting boards and maybe wax polish all the wood.
I’m not a domestic goddess and normally just clean whenever, whatever needs doing.
So halfway through these days of cleaning, I suddenly think, “I’ve turned into my Gran and Mum, spring cleaning” ?

I have just say down after cleaning all skirting boards and doors don't call it spring cleaning just felt in the mood .

My late mother in law whose house was always well kept used to say that nobody ever lay on their deathbed and said I wish I’d done more cleaning. ??

I think with the coming of sunny days I am more conscious of the state of my windows, mirrors and dust in general so I suppose I am more driven to clean at this time of year. I don’t deliberately set about spring cleaning.
It was very satisfying during the recent warm and sunny weather to get all the bedding washed and dried in the sunshine. Duvets, mattress protectors, pillows the lot and vacuuming the bed base. Yes, I’m turning into my mother. ?

When I take my last breathe on this earth I will not be wishing that I had cleaned more

At 19 I worked in a swiss hotel so when Spring comes around I am blighted by the feeling I have to do what my husband calls the swiss clean.
At 70 I can only do spot cleaning not the whole house at once. So I am going to start on defrosting the large freezer under the stairs and move to the kitchen cupboards to check for out of date flour etc. That's what the Spring clean means for me!

At the beginning of Lockdown last year we went through the house AND sheds like wildfire. There was nothing left with a speck of dust on...and I've just kept on top of things since although I'll have to clean the downstairs blinds again...Ugh

Spring clean the garden, house gets it all year round.

I generally clean as and when I see stuff needs doing but I’m not too keen. I do like things tidy though. Bathroom gets done weekly and kitchen surfaces get a daily wipe over as needed. However I do re arrange the furniture in the conservatory in the spring and change it back again in the autumn. Chiefly to move the sofa so that it isn’t in front of the radiator during the winter months. Each time I give the whole conservatory a good clean. I don’t do this in any other room. My Mum used to have regular weekly routine where she would thoroughly clean a different room each week day. I don’t know how she found the energy or inclination.
