Met Police

Even going back many years the Met had a poor reputation amongst other police forces.
It is a large force so more chance of some with criminal tendencies getting in.
Makes it harder for the majority of decent police officers to do their job.

Oxfam aid workers allegations yet again , seems same applies to Oxfam and the Police force

As these three officers and their actions have recently been in the news I wonder whether there has been a concerted effort within the Met to root out these sort of people within the last couple of years.
On the one hand it might make us think that the Met must be housing a lot more officers like this, but on the other hand it might give us confidence that the Met is no longer willing to tolerate these behaviours and is no longer going to brush them under the carpet or to minimise the problem by saying it is only a small number.
I do think the Met deserves credit in a way, they could have just made sure that these officers were quietly removed from the job with no publicity, but they have been open in these cases.

When the Police are very good, I imagine they are superb... but when they are bad, it's horrendous. I have heard the Met don't have the best of reputations. I have someone in my family, out of all of us, he is really unpleasant and has a vindictive and mean character. Up until a few years ago he was in the Met so maybe my view is coloured by that.

However... how in god's name could an 18 year old get through the interview process with such vile nazi views? All he had to do was tick a box saying he wasn't a nazi and he was in.
I was a very involved in a large charitable organisation for about 10 years. I cannot begin to tell you the amount of checking up on me they did. References and DBS, views on certain subjects etc... the procedure took months to make sure I was the right fit. It sounds more rigorous than becoming a Met police officer!

As a teenager, I regularly argued with my dad (senior officer in CID) that the police had to be ‘squeaky clean’. He never disagreed that should be the expectation. He argued that the police recruits from our society, so inevitably a few corrupt officers would be identified. A 40 year career of my own, in various organisations, eventually convinced me, he was right.

Im in no way defending corrupt, violent officers. Our society in general has too much alcohol fuelled violence, including sexual violence. There seems to be a problem with officers covering for others when police are called to violence in an officers home. Skilled training and high expectations happen in some of the specialist teams.

The Met police have to be above that, they HAVE to be squeaky clean and we aren’t talking about little misdemeanours that are coming to light we are talking about murder, rape, and far right activities it cannot be swept under the carpet it has to be investigated to the highest degree by an outside organisation and it will then give the public an opportunity to regard the rest of the police with the respect they deserve
I m concerned it will be said to be investigated to appease the country

I'm sorry for those respectable and innocent officers of the Met who are tainted by the behaviour of their colleagues. I feel sure that the majority will be as shocked and offended by the scandals that have erupted this week as the general public. However, what is obvious is that the Met - and likely other forces - will have to consider a serious revision of their recruitment and selection processes. The young man who slipped through despite his Nazi sympathies must have given them pause for thought.

Unfortunately there are good and bad in all organisations, always has been probably always will be.

This is exactly why it has to be acknowledge and dealt with and not brushed under the carpet again and again
It’s why they have to call these rogue police out and get back our confidence in all the good police out there it is unfair on them and it’s got to begin at the top where a lot of the problem must surely lie

It's sad isn't it Iam64 that the corruption of some officers overshadows all the excellent work done by many forces throughout the country and indeed the bravery of many police officers.

There’s a bbc documentary called The Detectives on tv currently. It follows a Major incidence team working across Greater Manchester. It’s great tv and should restore some confidence in the police, as well as showing the level of risk they face.

I thought this meant Olive from Mabel and Olive the two renown labradors that have kept so many entertained during lockdown.

anniebach I think you know that’s a saying and not an accurate calculation of numbers, but yes you are right I think there are many more cases than ever come to light
I think it’s incredible sad that the men and women we rely on and look up too are full of such major criminal activity and I think it’s a huge problem that this then rubs off on all the good hard working police so something needs to be done and has needed doing for many many years and it needs doing by an outside organisation not internally
There have been too many instances if cover ups and side stepping and corruption for too many years

And I wish HQ would hurry up and change the title I have requested it soon after I wrote it and my fingers did their own thing and Olive poked her nose in

No BlueBelle we do not know it’s the tip of the iceberg , I am quite sure the number is more than three but you seem to be suggesting the majority given that 90% of an iceberg is under water.

There is not a great deal of respect for the police at the moment, and it is not a job I would care to do. Damned if they do and damned if they don't. Not surprising they are not getting the highest calibre of recruits.
