Allegedly, hanging one's washing out in the garden ruins the aesthetic look of the place [shock]

I think Germany has some fairly strict rules about hanging washing out as well.
I agree with GrannySomerset on this. I used to love seeing a line of white nappies blowing in the wind in the days of terry nappies.

One of the great pleasures in life, a line of washing blowing in the breeze. (especially if belonging to babies and grandchildren)

2nd great pleasure the smell of outside dried laundry.

3rd sleeping on freshly laundered sheets.

Not all lockdowns tea in china could spoil that pleasure

Oopsadaisy has just reminded me of holidaying in Florida.
We went for 3 weeks and midway we arrived on Anna Maria island and wanted to wash some clothes.
Draped them over railings at the front of the apartment, and a voice boomed out of a sound system “Get that darn Laundry in - no Laudry allowed outside!!”
I felt like a naughty schoolgirl.

So Edinburgh residents were told by a building developer. A "no washing outside" clause has been written into their title deeds. Completely unreasonable imo. Their gardens their private space!

I wouldn't be happy living in a place with such silly, superficial rules. All fur coat and no knickers comes to mind.

I like to see a line of washing blowing in the breeze. Can't find anything offensive in washing drying outside.

When we used to holiday in Florida the houses that we rented often had a huge garage with a clothes line in it, plus a tumble dryer, no outdoor washing lines over there either.

There are many communities in North America where hanging out laundry is illegal.

30 years ago a colleague had the same clause in a town house that she bought, so it isn’t a new ‘thing’, just unreasonable, there are some new estates that don’t allow you to park near to your house at all, if you stop to unload your shopping, a camera picks it up and you are fined.

It isn't the whole of the city, in spite of the headlines, just a couple of new developments. The developers must fancy themselves posher than Morningside. I hope the buyers read their deeds carefully before signing, and buy somewhere less Hyacinth Bucket.

Mine's out on the line as we speak. I love how the clothes smell when they've been dried in the fresh air.

I rented a flat whwre there was nowhere to hang washing outsoors. Several people put up a line in their garage and left the door open. I couldn't as the owner had some property in there and I was worried about it being stolen if I left the door open. Luckily I had a dryer.

It’s satisfying to see your fresh washing blowing on the line outside. My line is behind our garage so offends nobody.
I’m not keen on seeing a line of grey washing (if you know what I mean), or washing that has been hanging outside for days ?

My washing is hung in the garden all the time I wouldn’t buy something without outside space to enjoy including hanging out the washing.

I would hate not to be able to hang my own washing out in my own garden.

Here in Brussels it is illegal to hang washing where it can be overlooked.
It comes from the 40/50s when there were a lot of migrants into the city and they strung washing lines across the streets above the Trams,,, wee bit dangerous.
An English friend who had just moved here put a whirly thing in the garden and had the police at her door within a week.
I would love to put a washing line in our garden but no chance.

I wouldn't buy one of those properties - and I can think of a suitable place to stick those title deeds! ?
