Good morning from a rainy north Surrey.
Congratulations Scentia and family, what a beautiful picture of mum and baby, lovely to see you back here too.
GG perfect start to the day.
NannyJan your hair looks lovely.
Grandmadinosaur we had an extension built 20 plus years ago when I was working full time and in my 30s it was exhausting then!
Thank you to those who have given me some toothpaste suggestions. I think I have probably tried them all but need to keep a note of which ones work better for me.
I am another who seconds Marydoll’s sentiments. The pleasure is in reading and sharing our stories. It is nice if someone picks up on something you have written, and are given support when we have our troubles. I know I am not alone with poor memory and I do sometimes write a note to remind me who said what ?
This morning DGS2 was up early so he read to me and then gave a synopsis to his brother at the breakfast table, thus both learning a new word. They have now gone off to school with DH, I have walked Freddie, got washing in the machine and washed up so time for feet up and an undisturbed cup of tea.
Visit to mum and dad this morning and school run later.
DS messaged to say he has his first vaccination next week, he is 35 and will be the last adult in the family to get vaccinated.
Wishing all a happy day with lots of ?moments

Congratulations Scentia, beautiful photo!
Have a good day everyone.

GrannyOwl5 Thu 13-May-21 09:05:40

Morning everyone not from the north Kent coast, but from the New Forest where we are having a week’s holiday postponed from last year. We have been on several long walks through beautiful countryside accompanied on occasions by some New Forest ponies and an inquisitive cow! I beat a hasty retreat whilst she and DH (who’s an ex-farmer) had a deep and meaningful conversation. The weather has been kind to us so hoping it stays dry today.

The highlight of our week was a visit to the beautiful Exbury Gardens where there were stunning views of azaleas and rhododendrons.

Another walk today before returning home tomorrow. It has been so nice to have a change of scene, although with all this walking about think my legs are getting shorter!

Congratulations to you and your family Scentia. What a lovely picture to start the day of a beautiful baby; sending good wishes and many blessings to her and your family.

Good wishes too for those having medical procedures or awaiting test results.

Hope you all have a good day.

Dogsmakemesmile Thu 13-May-21 09:09:32

Morning everyone. Dry and almost sunny here in the Scottish Borders. Congratulations Scentia on your beautiful grandaughter. Thinking of others who have tribulations and worries today. No plans bar watching last episode of The Killing this morning. Can't believe I just wrote that. Will do online shop of new clothes later. Have been having a declutter but went a bit OTT. Keep safe.

Alygran Thu 13-May-21 09:14:17

Good morning from North Yorkshire. Another sunny start.
Meeting in the park with some members of our charity later so I hope it stays dry.
Congratulations Scentia and family
Lovely hair Nannyjan
DD1 is getting her first vaccine on Friday.
Have a good day everyone. Stay safe.

B9exchange Thu 13-May-21 09:24:14

What wonderful news Scentia , and great photo. It is such a relief when Mum and baby are safely separated.

Do hope your daughter begins to improve Susan, and that she gets the right treatment.
We have nothing planned for today, cats have so fat avoided swinging on the dangling pelmet rail, but they had eaten quite a bit of my favourite fern yesterday, and spewed bits across the landing when we came back from feeding DD's bood and taking DGD to ballet. Freezer will be out of action until at least Monday sad

I have found a wonderful app that tells you where the next available loo is, very useful when waiting in a cold car parked in a ballet school car park!

Have a lovely day everyone, hoping worries abate a bit.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 13-May-21 09:35:45

NannyJan53 lovely hair.

I would just like to add to what others have said to all new readers (I really do not like the word lurkers ) , I am absolutely useless at remembering posters names and circumstances, please do not take it as a snub or clique if I /or others do not respond to something posted by a new virtual friend it is definitely not intentional, more like life getting in the way.

Please join in (and let Urmstongran know how much your house is worth ???‍♀️), this and soops kitchen are really supportive and friendly places to be.

aggie Thu 13-May-21 09:45:09

Good Morning all, my goodness , no this thread is not cliquey ! I don’t post every day but I do read about everyone’s day , mine is mostly uneventful .
It was lovely to see the new baby pic ?
Another poster has a poorly DD , I hope the Doctor sees and helps her
Sorry but I’m not good at remembering names

Grandmafrench Thu 13-May-21 09:46:27

Good Morning from a perfectly still, blue morning. Breeze from the South so we can hear the Med’ ..... above the busy birds who are singing fit to burst.

That baby girl’s expression, Scentia - she looks like she’s trying to explain something! ?. Congratulations to you all, you must be so happy she’s here safely.

Elegant, understated, gorgeous. That’s a lovely haircut, Nannyjan.

I love peonies, Gelisa, yours looks very happy! GrannySomerset, you do seem to have the best idea as to how to considerdeal with a cluttered cupboard. Hope the feeling passes soon, but remember one of the Grans’ Rules and that is we must never use the word ‘ought’ in a sentence? Grans can do whatever they like - we’ve all earned that right!
?

Regular remarks as to ‘clique-yness’ in this Thread, are from the same stable as comments regarding its ‘kindness’ and ‘gentleness’ and ‘safe-ness’. ( The latter usually said in a snarky tone by those who either want attention or an argumentative thread involving lots of insults, abuse and bad language!). Why search for that in a day? Isn’t life often hard enough? Our ever-extending Morning Club (which doesn’t close at noon!) promises everything from support and help to friendship, lots of interest, sharing and a damn good laugh, so no need to defend what we do, who we are. Post, join in, lurk, enjoy. It doesn’t matter because everyone’s welcome. Imagine wanting to criticise something like that!

Ascension means a State holiday yet another, 3 this month here in la belle France. Citizens who work will undoubtedly “faire le pont”/make the bridge, by adding a day’s holiday leave onto the day - resulting in a 4 day weekend. A lot like in the UK this resulted in a run yesterday on supermarkets countrywide - and butchers - whilst hosting families stocked up on food to eat outside. Only small difference is that BBQ’s aren’t a worry since the weather is more stable. It won’t be long before the scent of lamb and rosemary, spicy sausages and sizzling sardines will be wafting on the breeze. I’d better get started on the day before it catches up and overtakes me....again.

Hoping for good results dragonfly - for you both ?. Fingers crossed your DD’s symptoms resolve soon, Susan. Well done, grandmajet and mr Gaga - you’ll hopefully only look forward now.

Have the best day, don’t overdo stuff, stay safe, be kind to passing ? , resolve to be #lazygrans, enjoy every moment you can. Enough instructions?? ?

Big hugs, ?‍♀️?????x

Hi this is going to be a long post my daughter after a difficult pregnancy and difficult birth is finding the lack of sleep very difficult. Baby is now almost 6months and still does not sleep
during the night for more than a couple of hours at a time and she had to feed her to get her to settle again. We live a 9 hour car journey away from her and we have not met baby yet. (Going down next week). She phones most days in tears about being tired and not being able to meet up with friends inside yet. Her husband works from home and does help as much as he can but as she is breast feeding it is hard for him. I accept it has been very different for her during the pandemic but she has joined a few baby groups but she seems to think everyone is managing much better than her. She gets really cross with me if I offer any advice. This morning for example I suggested she try’s bonjela on baby gums as she is teething only to be told she does not want advice, she only wants from me understanding and me to tell her she is doing a good job which I do frequently. I tried this morning for example telling her about our plans for coming down to see them all but she got cross with me yet again for trying to distract her. She did speak to her doc about pnd but will not take the medication prescribed as she doesn’t think she needs it and her oh says she’ll soon snap out of it !!! I do wonder if motherhood is not what she thought it would be. My daughter is 38 and has a very exacting job which she loves and will go back to. I do wonder if she feels out of control with baby. I’m looking for advice for how to try to help without giving advice ???

nanna8 Thu 13-May-21 09:54:18

What a beautiful baby Scentia, just gorgeous. Cold and wet this evening and I am hugging the fire. Hope you all have a lovely day. I was thinking it would be good to see a map where everyone is - quite widespread by the looks of things.

Kim19 Thu 13-May-21 09:59:13

Scentia??. Beautiful in every way. Thanks for sharing so quickly.

hollysteers Thu 13-May-21 10:01:11

Good morning Mick and all from a breezy northwest Lancashire coast. My appetite is indifferent at the moment and I dither about wondering what to eat. A quiet day ahead sorting photographs. After 40 something years, it’s quite a haul. What makes us think we are going to live for ever? Lovely to see all the beautiful places I have been to, but bittersweet to see my lovely late husband enjoying all those trips. He managed to keep his finger half over the lens on many of them.?
Flying daughter flight to Tel Aviv cancelled, not surprisingly, so she’s on standby. She’s so thoughtful, phoning nearly every day. Wish she lived closer.
Congratulations Scentia another miracle and thoughts to Cherry, Marydoll, dragonfly and anyone with worries.

aggie Thu 13-May-21 10:01:58

Awww poor you , can’t do right for doing wrong , just listen to the moans and agree with everything !
I do understand , I was like your Daughter, my Mum was so worried that she rang back one night to make sure I was ok , and I snapped at her , I think you are right about your Daughter feeling out of control , then the tension transmits to the baby , just relax yourself and roll with the snapping !

aggie Thu 13-May-21 10:03:46

My last post was for Garryl

hulahoop Thu 13-May-21 10:08:40

BlueSapphire Thu 13-May-21 10:09:40

Good morning everyone from a cloudy and damp Northampton. Looks as though we have had rain overnight. I have the towels in the washing machine but not sure whether to put them out or not.

Sainsburys delivering at lunchtime, then settle down to finish off my wrap. I spent yesterday afternoon sewing it up and sewing all the loose ends of wool in. Now I have to do a crochet edging, but will have to look up the stitch on YouTube, as I have forgotten how to do double crochet.

Decided yesterday to move the furniture around in the smallest bedroom, but found out that the bed was too long to turn round without removing the head and foot boards, so it all went back in the same place again! At least I got to hoover the carpet under the bed which had not been done for years months.

Congratulations to Scentia on a beautiful DGD. So lovely. New life gives us so much hope.

Must text DD and see if she has booked her jab - she now falls into the age bracket being called.

Must now get on with a few jobs. Or shall I have a coffee?

Best wishes to all.

Nannagarra Thu 13-May-21 10:13:51

Good morning from the Sefton coast where thankfully the sun is trying to shine - I have a garden meet up with friends this afternoon. It does make me smile when all six of us are trying to talk at the same time! Imagine next week when numbers are no longer limited - there are ten of us!
Lots of positive news including the safe delivery of Scentia’s beautiful granddaughter, MrGaga’s encouraging progress and dragonfly and jet’s successful hospital visits yesterday. Fingers crossed that Susan56’s DD is soon on the mend. A worrying time for you Susan. I bet you’re enjoying that cuddle in bed GG13 (it’s top of my bucket list). Did you get the recipe for apple scones Still? I’d like to make them dropping hints here to said recipe owner.
Most probably another 20 posts have appeared while I’ve been typing. This is a busy thread but it’s not too busy for people to join or indeed return...
Hope every one of you finds a reason to smile and giggle today.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 13-May-21 10:20:43

Garryl our youngest GC is 16 months and is not a fan of sleeping during the night, (he has not had one full nights sleep to date). DD is on her knees, especially as she is back at work two days a week. All you can do is listen, maybe text her some days instead of ringing?

Hopefully things will settle sooner rather than later ?

Auntieflo Thu 13-May-21 10:21:59

Good morning *Mick, Annie, and all, on this wet, grey, dismal day from our bit of Berks, and I can't summon up any energy to get going, again ?, but I will in a minute or so.

Scentia, what a beautiful picture of your DD and new baby girl. Congratulations to all the family.

Must make another trip to the charity shop today, and return yesterday's purchase, for re-selling. I thought it was such a clever idea. A cradle for supporting a kettle, so that you don't have to lift it, to fill a teapot. Well, it just didn't work, for me, anyway!
I was going to try and get to the garden centre for some bedding plants, so if it's not raining, we will give it a go.

Gelisajams, that is a lovely peony. I will look out for one.
My favourite is Bowl of Beauty, just because it so regularly delights me every time it blooms, and they are just about to do that.

Sorry that there has been a bit of discord about 'cliqueyness' on here. Surely not. I have been posting here for ages, on and off,
and not found it to be so. Friendly, welcoming, supportive, but we can't all remember everybody.
There are a huge number if posters now on this lovely thread, and we sort of gravitate to a like minded person. Does that make sense, not sure, but I hope you know what I mean.

Has SheepandCattle posted lately? I miss her interesting posts. Like our lovely Marydoll, she could write a jolly post that had you smiling. Apologies if that's not allowed.

Cherry, glad to hear that the kitchen is coming along, even if you do have the odd toilet! stop along the way.

Have a good day one and all.

EllanVannin Thu 13-May-21 10:43:05

Good Morning All x.
Fine and sunny but rain's forecast----again. It feels cooler too unless I haven't thoroughly warmed up after my early shower.
I was up about 7 , a quick cup of my mud grin then into the shower to make me look respectable before an early Asda delivery. Between 8 and 9. I didn't want to appear in a dressing gown so livened myself up.

Anyway, he was here about 8.30 so after I'd put everything away I had the crumpets and hot choc. I get £10 off my next order before the beginning of June so that's encouraging. I have enough grub to last me that long now. Love to see the freezer and cupboards full.

So pleased everything went well for mum and beautiful baby Scentia, a delightful picture. Hope all goes well for the other expectant mums here. Always anxious moments.xx.

A lovely surprise when D called yesterday. I hadn't seen her since Easter as she's been so busy with one thing and another----work, lifts to and from schools, shopping and general busyness, which I understand.

However we had a great catch-up and I'm now more or less up to speed with various goings-ons. It's been a wearying and worrying past 12 months for all the family and still is in a way but at least there's a glimmer of light at the end of a very long tunnel.

I hope to see Ruby-Lou at the end of the month as she's being brought down from Durham to stay with my D for the Whit weekend so I'll get together a little bag of gifts. Her mum ( my GD ) sees her every Saturday as she travels by train from Lime St., which is nearly a full day, 3hrs each way. We've yet to know what's in store for the child as nobody seems to know what's happening with her at the moment.
We don't want her to be miles away.

I hope your DD's illness can be resolved/ rectified Susan. It's the " not knowing " which is the worrying part. x.

Anyone else awaiting ops/ appointments I sincerely hope that life is made easier flowers

Not a lot getting done today and although I like the idea of Urmston's Geisha---they shuffle, don't they ? Well I wouldn't want to get to that stage yet, colourful as they sound. I'll be happy putting one foot in front of the other for now, thankyou. grin

Take care all and remain safe whatever you do.xx

Hymnbook Thu 13-May-21 10:44:01

Morning everyone l hope you are all keeping well . It's dry and sunny here in Sherwood. I hope the rain keeps away until I have been to the post office. Waiting for my order of fruit and vegetables to be delivered. I have had a good week so far feeling well and I've managed to do a lot of housework.

Urmstongran Thu 13-May-21 11:02:06

grandMattie

All new posters - I would echo Marydoll’s comment. We are warm, supportive and welcoming, but as she says there is now a huge number of us and sometimes newbies get missed. This is emphatically not deliberate.
I hope the lurkers feel brave enough to join and, who knows, you might become one of the much commented upon regulars!

Plus in my opinion I think it’s a 2-way street grandMattie and Marydoll.

On numerous occasions I have spotted a newbie, given them a ? and a welcome - even jokingly asking about the value of their house - only for the poster to retreat not long after.
