I was so saddened by the interview with harry and megan , why would two people who have got exactly what they wanted are happy to create such pain for others

^Yes, yes, stiff upper lip, don't you know chaps? Salute Mater and all that.^

Yes yes, some of you will end up killing yourselves but at least you won't look like softies.

^In my day we lived in a paper bag in the middle of the road. Be grateful you've got shoes, what what!^

That’s just silly.

You think?

Mr. B has red hair, wonder if he has royal blood?

EllanVannin Tue 18-May-21 09:55:46

In support of the Queen, some people aren't " mummyish "---I'm not, but it doesn't mean that I ignored my children or didn't love them or do anything for them. They were/are my life but I don't have to smarm over them.

Affection wasn't shown years ago such as it is today, no matter who you were but it didn't mean that parents were " cold ".
How ridiculous to find fault in this way and making a big issue of it.

Anniebach Tue 18-May-21 10:00:56

Lillypops. Thank you . I can remember a book written by an
American Kitty Lester or Lister, it was banned, she claimed the
Queen mother conceived the Queen and Margaret with the aid
of a turkey baster ! The book was ridiculed .

Callistemon Tue 18-May-21 10:01:03

Annie. The book is called The Royals. By Kitty Lester. The quote is page 462 Printed in 1977 , not sure if it is still available

Who know,s who to believe.

Exactly.
Certainly not some book written by someone who has a penchant for pearl-clutching fiction.

I presume you mean Kitty Kelley, American journalist, not Gransnet's very own kittylester!

Peasblossom Tue 18-May-21 10:03:06

Do you mean Kitty Kelley. The American journalist?

She has no access to anything except opinion and paparazzi stuff.

Like I said the Queen has four children who rally round her in times of need. Not so bad.

Callistemon Tue 18-May-21 10:06:54

There is lots of film like this, some shown very recently on tv after the Duke died, of the Queen and Prince Philip playing with their children.

Peasblossom Tue 18-May-21 10:07:31

Charles did say he had “the most magical grandmother”.

William said he thought his grandfather was really funny.

Meghan says she just rings the Queen up and asks how things are going.

All sounds pretty normal family stuff to me.

Callistemon Tue 18-May-21 10:15:17

The train greeting is the one always picked out as symbolic of HM being a cold and distant mother. One photo is not evidence.
Their lives in the spotlight are so different from most of ours. Who knows what goes on in private?

Alegrias1 Tue 18-May-21 10:43:19

Who knows what goes on in private?

How true. Makes you wonder how there are people on this thread who seem to know exactly what goes on in the private homes of Meghan, Harry, and everybody they have ever interreacted with. Even to the extent of knowing exactly what goes on in their heads. confused

maddyone Tue 18-May-21 11:01:55

We don’t know what goes on behind closed doors in anyone’s family, do we? But we do know what Harry has chosen to speak about. To criticise the First Amendment whilst accepting the hospitality of his adopted country is very rude; it’s very poor form. He’s been brought up in an entitled way and now appears to think he can say whatever he wants to, despite running the possibility of offending others. My evidence is that he has been filmed criticising the First Amendment. It’s not what I think, it’s what he’s done.

maddyone Tue 18-May-21 11:02:45

My darling little granddaughter has beautiful red hair. It’s gorgeous. I hope we have no links to the royal family ?

Smileless2012 Tue 18-May-21 11:03:17

We don't know what goes on in private but thanks to H's never ending tirade of self pity, if what he says is true, it is no longer private is it.

Boz Tue 18-May-21 11:10:05

He has his Mother's penchant for using the Media for his own ends. Ended well for her, didn't it?

EllanVannin Tue 18-May-21 11:13:14

I wonder if Harry would have done all this if he'd been married to someone else ?

Anniebach Tue 18-May-21 11:13:33

Boz yes he is doing what Diana did, use the media and complain about the media .

EllanVannin Tue 18-May-21 11:16:56

You're telling me, Boz.

theworriedwell Tue 18-May-21 11:22:49

I think it was a BBC documentary in 2017 when Harry said this about his mother dying, "How you deal with that? I don't know. But you know, he was there for us. He was the one out of two left, and he tried to do his best and to make sure that we were protected and looked after, But you know, he was going through the same grieving process as well."

Think it was at the same time that he said he was happy with the group decision that he and William would walk behind the coffin.

Does he lie, does he have conflicting memories? Who knows but that doesn't sound like the father he has recently described.

Boz Tue 18-May-21 11:32:35

I had differences with my Mother but I would never, ever, have gone public with my complaints. It is mean, cruel and unnecessary. Just not done. He is being manipulated.

EllanVannin Tue 18-May-21 11:35:53

Manipulated, brainwashed and coerced----all a far cry from what he'd been used to.

Jabberwok Tue 18-May-21 12:06:26

I agree with the above and that the Harry we saw in 2017 on the subject of his mothers tragic death is completely different to the one we are hearing now. How strange is that? I am at a loss to know what to think, all I do know is that trashing your very elderly grandparents whom you profess to love, virtually on a weekly basis in public is bad enough, but when one of them is dying it's just diabolical by anybody's standards. Making money on the back of your dead mother is equally dreadful, as for your poor father whom you were once so generous about, but apparently was actually a dreadful parent, well what's your agenda? Why are you doing this? It can't just be for money? Surely not! Your brother? Of course jealousy it would appear is the motive, money too?! All this of course being played out on the world stage. The Queen is said to be very anxious about what these two will say next, true or false. Whatever way is that to treat your grandmother who loves you enough to give you a year to completely make up your minds as to what you want to do with the option of coming home? What father would finance you for that year? I know my parents loved me but they wouldn't have done that nor would I have wanted them to. Perhaps Granny and Papa were too generous. All very sad and not at all admirable. Upsetting the Americans wasn't a very neat move either. Poor dim Harry, best to keep quiet about things you don't quite understand, Criticism can be offensive!

Lucca Tue 18-May-21 12:12:08

That’s a hideous comment.

Yes it is, BUT?!!
