Nicknames for neighbours

We do have nicknames for neighbours, more to help know who we are talking about than to be disrespectful. We have an abundance of Daves so one became 'the godbod' as he always pops a religious newspaper through our letterbox. Another, the neighbourhood watch Dave. I bet my husband is electrical Dave.
New neighbours have become the Wonderful Family as I heard that said so many times before I met them. They are indeed a lovely family!
As child I remember my dad calling neighbours The Tinks as they were always fiddling with their car.
Just wondered if we are alone in our nicknaming of neighbours?

The Glums - in the 4 years we lived next door to them, never saw them crack a smile once.

Hoskin' Harry - next door to the terraced house I lived in as a child in the 60's - we didnt need an alarm clock as the 6am hacking from heavy smoker Harry did the job every time

We have neighbours who we call Mr and Mrs Skip as they are continually having improvements to their house , another one is called Moan , real name Joan , no explanation needed ?

We’ve lived in our house for 15 years and have only spoken to one set of neighbours once. I don’t even know their first names, they are very reclusive but appear to have very regular domestic habits which you do pick up on after 15 years. Every second Monday morning winter or summer, rain or shine he gets his ladders out and cleans the windows - beautifully I may add! He’s always referred to as Mr Window Cleaning Man and even my children refer to him by that name now.

We had one awful neighbour who used to spy on people and sometimes made malicious allegations against them. We called her "Telescope Teresa."

My husband always referred to one of our neighbours as Fat Man so his wife became Robin.

"job" not jib!

I don't really have neighbours, not close ones anyway! My husband and I moved to Scotland in February this year. There is a garage next door (no trouble, does MOT's, but has a jib elsewhere, so the garage is not often open. Above us on this side of the street, only open fields - though there are some more houses a good bit further up (and a farm). We do have houses opposite, and have so far only met a "Jim" and a "Joe" (both elderly men, presumably widowers). We have lovely views from the back of the house, looking out to sea (again, only a road, some distant houses, the remains of a broch, a distant Cemetery and a Castle)!

I've got "next door upstairs" " 'er underneath" and "John Wayne", so named because he pointed a gun at the young window cleaner!
It turned out to be a replica but not until the armed response team had been deployed! That was quite exciting ?

I thought it was just us who did this for fun. We have the Gallaghers, the Chief, Shorty (he always wears shorts no matter the weather). Not to mention the Parkers and Julie from down the road, don't know her surname. A lively bunch of neighbours I wonder what we get called?

Funniest thread I've read for a while!

'Yetti'or 'Big Foot' was the guy living in Flat above. No idea of spatial awareness, clambering across the floor like 'Big Foot'. Another neighbour named 'SKY News', (always the first with breaking gossipy news)!

We have a Mr Hat. Always wears a hat, no idea what his real name is

We have names for some people who walk by our house, one is the Scottish widow as she wears a long black coat, like the insurance advert, another is Burglar Bert as he always carries a swag bag and we imagine him going on a 'job.' We used to have a man nearby who was always working on his house, so he was DIY man, another who worked as a telephone engineer, so he is alway telephone man! I do wonder what name people call us!

One rough couple at the end of the road we call The Numpties with the goings on there. Next door Mrs. Vampire as never goes out and the man at the end of the close Mr Odd Ball. Oh dear all sounds a bit bad really but not meant in malice. True of each household.

We live opposite The Clampitts (for those of you who remember the Beverley Hillbillies). They're the only ones my husband given a name to, as they don't abide by any Covid rules, keep their bins at the front, and have a drive full of vans and a caravan. Makes us sound a bit snobby. The rest of the neighbours all socially distance and are very aware of rules etc.

A family that lived down the road from us we nicknamed the Klammers as they had three skiing holidays per year, another neighbour at the bottom of the cul de sac we nicknamed Mrs Alan Whicker as she was never at home, always driving off somewhere with her toddlers in the car seats. My husband calls one neighbour The Spanish Fly as she’s from mainland Spain, one man is nicknamed Mike it is, because he’s welsh and that’s how he introduces himself. A problematic young lad was nicknamed Torchy by my husband as he had committed arson a few times. An elderly lady was nicknamed Mink and Sable after her two poodles. One elderly chap is Leeds John, as he comes from Leeds. My husband nicknamed one young girl Olga Korbet as she used to attend gymnastics classes& be outside in her leotard.

Terry the Tit and his wife Very Very Thick her registration is VVT! Fortunately they have recently moved thankfully as we were nearly coming to blows.

(they came out of their flat)

GrannyBettie Wed 19-May-21 13:52:17

I once worked with someone who called her neighbours "The J Edgars" because they always had the vacuum cleaner out.

halfpint1 Wed 19-May-21 13:48:43

I was once ringing my Mum's doorbell and her youngish flat neighbours came out. To my horror they referred to my Mum as 'Mad Laura'. She was a quiet woman , a bit forgetfull at
that stage but I couldn't imagine how she'd earned that
horrible nickname.

Lin663 Wed 19-May-21 13:42:20

Mr Grumpy lives near my elderly parents, he complains and sends nasty looks over when I briefly park outside their house, rather than in the allocated parking area, to unload their weekly shopping.....hope he never gets old and needs a bit of help!

Sjonlegs Wed 19-May-21 13:41:46

Ah I love this post! We have 'The Gaybours' (the gay guys next door), Spice & Dice (he likes to smoke weed and she's just a bit well ... dicey!), The GodBores (the religious family over the road), The Reverend & Mrs Green (ex Rev & wifey).... We used to have Mr Naked Man over the road ... tbh I was sad when he moved out - he had absolutely no problem flaunting his (rather impressive) naked bod at every given opportunity! Shucks!

Foxyferret Wed 19-May-21 13:35:23

We are Dog man and Dog woman as we have 4 Labradors. We don’t have nicknames for our neighbours except for Stevie Wonder next door. Gave him this name as he is always working on his house so we all wonder what he’s going to improve next.
