My understanding of the current EBay rules ( and I did use eBay until the change) was that if a buyer claimed that the goods were faulty or didn’t turn up, then the purchaser could be reimbursed from your account, difficult to prove otherwise. So money in and out of your current account.
There’s a lot of unhappy e bayers on other forums.

Direct Debits are used by all kinds of organisations to take payments which vary from one month to the next - electricity bills and phone bills for instance. If there is a dispute about a bill, you just contact your bank to cancel a payment until it is settled. It is no different to using a credit or debit card on each occasion to pay the invoice.

I wouldn’t like a third party having direct access to my bank account. What happens in a dispute and the buyer wants their money back?
Pay Pal didn’t take money from you bank account, but operated as a separate entity.

i am a regular seller on ebay.
instead of using Paypal and having the Paypal charges they now pay directly to your bank account. There is quite a delay with the payment showing in your account but this is mainly due to banks working on the 5 day week.

Bluebelle Direct Debit isn't an agreed regular amount . (That would be a Standing Order) A DD is an agreement that they will take whatever is needed each time. If you don't spend anything, you don't pay anything.

I don’t understand that last post cornishpasty
I haven’t sold or bought for some months so what fees do you mean? I ve cancelled the DD

If you look on the community board a lot of people are very unhappy and seem to find they are paying more in fees now not less
It all looks very complex to me

cornishpatsy Tue 18-May-21 19:05:52

The DD is for fees before it came out of paypal.

Agree it is easier to know the money will come straight into your bank account when you sell, rather than having to log into PayPal and ask for a transfer.

As far as I am aware, when I buy something the money comes off the credit card I have lodged with them, not my bank account.

Bluebelle Hi there don’t panic!
It’s all fine and a much simpler method than payment via PayPal.

When selling, your purchaser pays immediately you dispatch and within 48 hrs EBay notify you payment is on its way.
There are no more PayPal fees.

When buying there is no change.

eBay need updated bank details to send payments and for purchases that will come direct from your bank account not PayPal.

As someone who sells a fair amount on EBay I am much happier with the new system.
I’ve been on it since December.

I still don’t understand why they ve set up a Direct Debit on my account surely DD takes out a certain agreed amount every month ?? How does that work
I m now going to cancel my account I think, as I don’t understand why they are setting up a DD ...for what ?
I understand about the paying etc now going to eBay instead of PayPal but I don’t understand£ the DD set up

Does anyone on here sell on ebay and have any up to date information as to their new payment system? I had a message from eBay (and it wasn’t a scam) about their new payment system both for buying and selling (which has always been through PayPal) it would now be done through them and no longer PayPal so details to be given to them I knew it was bone fide so gave my details Then they sent an email back thanking me for my details and for setting up a direct debit which I didn’t do but they have
Well before I delete my whole account I wondered if anyone else had more info as I ve looked on eBay and seen others asking the same question but not seen any answers
Thanks
