Congratulations to Boris and Carrie who got married today in Westminster Catholic Cathedral. Just that really. I love weddings, doesn't matter who the couple are, I always hope it works out happily.

I’m still in touch with wife No 2. There were 2 others after her.
It was wife No 2 that I found hiding in my house. That was a fun evening ? Even better, she was one of our employees and we all had to go to work together the next day.
I was the first person she phoned when my ex had his eye on No 3 ( he loved a bit of wedding cake ?)
Me and my daughter laugh at his antics. My daughter has me in tears of laughter over him.
At my daughters wedding, myself and partner, wife No 2 and partner and ‘our’ ex were all at the same table, fabulous day.
No point in holding grudges. It only harms you.

he loved a bit of wedding cake ?
?

We went to a wedding where ex-MIL was a guest of honour so there were three mothers there.
The bride said she loved her ex-MIL, pity about the son.

Well, my marriage break down ripped me apart and I felt that I’d let my children down. I lost the only family that I’d known since my own parents died. I’m not holding grudges. We’ve always been there for each other and always will be but nothing will take away the pain of the two years when there were three in our marriage until I couldn’t mentally cope with it any more.

Don't you have to read the banns in England? How could they keep it a secret?

Urmstongran Sun 30-May-21 22:18:32

Maybe none of the people who were in on the ‘secret wedding’ blabbed and those who weren’t invited obviously aren’t churchgoers otherwise they’d have heard the banns being called each week.

Ellianne Sun 30-May-21 22:21:41

There must be a way to get a special licence to marry without reading the banns. For example people who are dying might decide to marry quickly with no time to wait.
My parents had their banns read in Rome to marry but were married in London by special licence though I can't remember why.

I googled ?

"From 1 July 1837 it has also been possible for a marriage to take place, without banns, in a District Register Office or in a certified building (usually a Roman Catholic or Nonconformist church or chapel), either by Certificate or by License, both issued by the Local Superintendent Registrar."

Crikey believe me he is not an alpha malegrin. Unless you mean that all the husbands of the people who have managed to remain faithful are somehow less of a man?

Boris definitely is an alpha male. But an alpha male is not necessarily a womaniser, so there's no disrespect to any alpha males who stay with one woman.

In what way is Boris an alpha male ? Genuine question.

I think this list describes Boris pretty well. Whether you think he's good looking or an 'effective' leader is a matter of personal opinion of course. But he is a leader not a follower.

They're Keenly Aware of Status.
They Tend to be Good Looking
They're Effective Leaders and Exist at the Top of Their Status Hierarchies.
They're Confident.
They're Extroverted.
They're Visionary.
They're Successful with Women.
They Don't Shy Away from Conflict.

Definition taken from a website called The Adult Man.com???

Ah well.

BlueSky

Loved Carrie’s look, even though I’m not a fan of wedding dresses, especially the garland of white flowers which looked lovely with her long blonde hair.

Me too, BlueSky. I thought the dress was perfect for her.

Ahhh, we have the answer. No banns necessary in a Catholic Church. Thanks Alegrias.

I also thought Carrie looked boho chic. That’s just the right expression to describe her look. She looked very lovely. It’s not my style, nor my daughter’s, but it was lovely.

“Wow! I don't think I've ever seen such a perfect couple. She looks incredible - radiant, Boris looks handsome as hell and they are absolutely made for each other. Let me be absolutely clear - this is a marriage made in heaven and one of the great romantic stories of our time has now been consecrated in holy matrimony.”
That sums it up for you all and it’s so good all his children were able to attend.

I'm just thankful they got on with it, without hoo ha, and pretty much in private. Good for them. I wish them luck in their future life together.

I still think he's a rubbish PM...

I thought the dress was ok, although I wouldn't have paid £3,000 for it, but does no one else feel that the whole look was more suited to a teenage hippy not a 33 year old woman? As for the flowers - perhaps if it hadn't been to big. It looked as if it was going to slip down over her ears at any moment. We already know that Boris is old enough to be her father but this look really underlined it.

You wouldn’t have had to, it is reported that she rented it for under £50 (daily rental £45 to be exact) for the day.
Very much of her generation, is Carrie.

Haha! I love that. Go, Carrie! ?

Maggiemaybe Mon 31-May-21 08:19:44

That’s a bargain. I hired my wedding dress and veil back in the 70s. It cost me £34 then.

BlueSky Mon 31-May-21 08:44:59

Great idea if she did rent it, can’t see the point in spending that amount of money for a few hours’ wear.

Lucca Mon 31-May-21 09:18:46

Good idea but £45 seems unlikely! I just checked and to hire a wedding hat near me costs from £54 so surely a dress would be considerably more ..
Could have been mates rates though

nanna8 Mon 31-May-21 09:31:26

I think she looked nice, very pretty. He looks a bit old for her more of a ‘father figure’. Good luck to them

Ellianne Mon 31-May-21 09:49:14

I agree with the "father" looking comments, but no one dare mention that Macron's wife is "mother" looking and is a quarter of a century older than he is.

Mine cost 33 guineas in the 1960s.
I still have it somewhere, Carrie could have borrowed it if she'd wanted vintage not boho chic!

There must be a way to get a special licence to marry without reading the banns.
We didn't have banns read and had to have a special licence signed by a priest who also had to be a solicitor (we managed to find one).

The BBC have it. Well, I think it's great news. Good luck to the pair of them - and Wilfred.

Absolutely, some very nasty comments on here. Let him without sin comes to mind. If it was anyone but Boris, they wouldn’t bat an eyelid.

Good point Ellianne - wasnt she his teacher too?
