Just watching an old DVD of this concert, which we found when having a clear out, but we will be keeping. People look so innocent then comparatively and I just wondered if anyone here was there. I've never been to a festival myself.

My favourite Leonard Cohen song with the indomitable Sharon Robinson.. just gives me goosebumbs

Love that song and the original poem it was based on by Cavafy. "The God abandons Anthony" dailypoetry.me/c-p-cavafy/god-abandons-antony/
Never made it to the I of W.

trisher thanks for the link.
That's the cleverness of Cohen isnt it that he can turn a poem about one subject and weave it through his songs so that it can be interpreted by the listener. Having my own Cohen fest this morning sitting in the sunshine

I don't know why this is under competitions. Meant to be under chat.

We've moved it over to our Chat topic for you, fairfraise. smile

Thanks Dawn at GN. Old music system was fixed with the aid of cotton wool buds and an elastic band in the tape deck. It's been fun listening to old stuff. I hadn't even heard of LC in 1970 and just got to know his music in late 70s.

I found Cavafy when I was about 18 and read (well got obsessed with) Lawrence Durrell's Alexandrian Quartet May7. It's funny how things come around isn't it? Not sure the books would wear as well as both Cohen and Cavafy though. I loved the song you posted and it brought the poetry back for me. Thanks so much.

I didn't know that trisher. My husband will be very interested too. I have not heard of Cavafy.
