It would have been my mum's birthday yesterday too. A popular day!

It is chucking it down here in SW Herts too, DH moaning because he wanted to cut the grass and do the hedges before the invasion starts tomorrow.

Ash your fresh plaice lunch sounds amazing!. Grandmafrench I’m glad you enjoyed your get together lunch.
Sar congrats to your little GD. You must all be so proud.
Baubles sympathy on the hearing aid problems, DH wears his when he remembers, but after having them for many years, I am not sure they make that much difference. Of course it is all just down to me mumbling... sound familiar? grin

The gluten and dairy free crumble has turned out to be a gooseberry upside down cake as I though something cold would be less hassle. Still to do the trifle for Sunday, now do I make the whole thing gluten and dairy free, or a separate one for DS1?

Still missing a cat sitter for our trip to Scotland in two weeks, just had a 'ping' from a possible, have to go. Keep dry everyone!

What a super photo of your Mum, Maw. We’ll always miss them. I lost mine 2 years ago tomorrow at a great age, but it still hurts. A Psychiatrist friend of mine always says that’s the last little bit of childhood!

Could you ask dear Rosie to contact Alizarin? I feel compelled to put her in touch for all under-bed retrieval jobs that A can’t cope with yet, due to a new hip. This could be Rosie’s chance to get out of bed … and shine! smile

Good morning everyone. Scottish Borders currently sunny and blue skyed. Wash done, breakfast dishes away, bathroom next and then physio. Desert Island Discs keeping me company. Watched great broadcast ( not sure if correct word) from British Museum last night. Curators of the Thomas Beckett exhibition showed us round the various artefacts and narrated his story. Great to be taken out of my head and house. Have become very insular. Think the programme is available on You Tube. Have a good Friday.

So right about the end of childhood - plus the uncomfortable feeling of losing the “cushion” the generation above us provided against our mortality.
Rosie also attempted to squeeze under the sofa yesterday evening chasing a spider. The sofa does not have legs just the approx 2” clearance of the castors, but she got the tip of her nose in and wasn’t giving up.

Morning all, Marydoll had a smile (grimace’) about your husband’s denial about being deaf, mine insists it’s me turning away when I speak or having the telly on too loud….despite me repeating things over and over.
Our grandsons imminent wedding in two weeks is still on but lots of rearranging, masks, a marquee, social distancing, oh dear. I hope we still get there. Already postponed from last year as many others are.

What a lovely picture of your Mum Maw.

Good morning from a sunny (do I feel a nip in the air?) east coast of Fife I’m getting excited for the day ahead, an early lunch with friends in the beautiful town of st Andrews however it’s debatable whether it’ll be inside or outside, followed by a good nap getting ready for that important football game on tv where no doubt I’ll be hearing himself cursing swearing and shouting from afar. shockThe flags outside the house should get many aroused. wink

Have a really lovely day Elizabeth

DGS1 “granny does too much lemon juice make you crazy?”
Me “no, why?”
DGS1 “think I had too much on my pancakes”
5 minutes later see photo ?

Good morning from Market Harborough, Leicestershire. Currently raining but lots to look forward to. I retire in less than a month. We have a new GD due the same week - DGC no 5. And a new extension being built imminently. Very exciting.
The lift of the ban means that we are now able to mix with siblings and partners too - I'm one of 5 and my DH is one of four.
All in all... happy days!
Sending everyone else positive vibes! xx

Maw and Alizarin ?? so true about the end of childhood, the safety net's gone.

amselerin Fri 18-Jun-21 11:52:55

Good morning Mick and all from hot, hot and humid Lueneburg. 33° at moment, could be up to 36°later. I could do with granmafrench's swimming pool. Marydoll, yes it can be very hot and humid here - as you know. I have been shopping, but from now on, I am just chilling. I shall read all your mails later. Lots of people are spending the weekend at the Baltic sea - I wouldn`t like the traffic to get there. Even though we need the rain - 30 % of the trees or there about are suffering from the luck of water - I am quite happy with this weather. Especially as we can`t go on holiday.
Have a good day all.

Thank goodness for lunch breaks.

2nd good morning from sunny Cornwall. Had a long read of all posts whilst waiting for MrM to sit down too.

Steady does it Mick. Hope the TV keep you pinned down and engrossed. With with other about GP.

Nannagarra I have my eyes peeled for a kite. One spotted locally and made the news and apparently they have been spotted close to us. Your photo wow

Will there be a photo of your creativity Beechnut? Love seeing everyone's crafts.

Jax Sounds like the rumblings and aches have ceased. Glad you've had some of the wet stuff for your new plants.

Grandmafrench Updated photo attached - taken at 8:00am. MrM has had to put a longer ladder down the abyss. I'm dumbfounded at how much these 2 men have done in 4 days.

As I read through the post and make notes, I see more rain mentioned. Fingers crossed a little will arrive here tomorrow - no weekend digging

Ali. Are you staple free now?

Sars53 Well done GD. Does she have a favourite author?

harrigran Two lots of good wishes: DD can stay longer by your side and the other for DH. Hope he copes with the injections.

Safe journey susan

Lins1066 Thank you for the grass seed information. Mya has been scratching her ear to the point of rawness. Vet saw nothing yesterday "clean as a whistle" but now I wonder.

Love the photo Maw. I miss mine too. Lost her to the dreaded dementia 15 years ago.

Yummy Yorkshire Pud photo B9. Well done. Must plant goosegogs next year. Very fond of sharp fruits. Rhubarb tart this weekend.

Hearing aids are getting a mention today. Must put mine in before I sit down for food with MrM. My excuse is, they hurt my ears when wearing ear defenders. Have them on this morning ?

Phew - lots of news today to catch up with. The hunger pangs are growing.

Had an upset of sorts yesterday. Almost ready to set off to see a new kennel with Mya. Lady rang to say that she'd turned a lady away who was dropping off her dog. It hadn't an up to date dog cough vaccination. Was Mya up to date? Quick ring to the vet. No. She should have had it when I took her in the other jab last December. Apologies from them? So it was a visit to the vet and not the kennel. Mentioned her ear. Recommended E45 cream. Surprised but am trying it. These grass seeds do worry me.

Building control have passed first part of the drainage.?Infill now starts. Part two in a week's time when the 2 massive tanks are in place.

I started this nearly two hours ago. Still not had lunch as I had to break off to get on to building supplies for a long list of materials needed asap.

Bound to be loads of errors in this post. It's not getting a read through. I'm starving.

Enjoy the rain or sun. Take care and tread carefully everyone.

Not the best day for us. Woke up to find a metal garden sculpture we commissioned from an arts student has been stolen. Presumably for scrap value.

B9exchange Fri 18-Jun-21 22:35:08

That is really sad Emily, do you think it was for scrap, or might it turn up on eBay? It looks very unusual, at first glance I thought it was an elephant, then a flying saucer, but then I saw the snail shell on the top! Perhaps you can enlighten us?
