Good Morning Everyone,
Its a grey but dry start here in Brackley this morning.
Plans for the day bus to Buckingham ,and then Bicester , but returning direct back home .
light lunch , with cycling on TV , and maybe a Chinese Take Away later.
Take Care,
Mick

Beechnut Sat 19-Jun-21 06:14:11

Good Morning everyone from a dull Severnside.
I’ve just finished my second cuppa of the morning as I’ve been awake for ages. Unusual for me but I did feel tired yesterday and couldn’t even keep my eyes open to watch Downton Abbey.

I hope I’ll get on and do some shoe cobbling today. My sandals could do with another hole on the straps.

Have the best day you can all and hope there were no phone calls to divorce lawyers yesterday Marydoll ?

Ashcombe Sat 19-Jun-21 06:20:31

Good morning, Mick and all who follow on a bright morning in Torbay.

Like you, Beechnut, I’m enjoying Downton Abbey, an oasis of calm amidst the current football frenzy!

I do appreciate the many responses from folk here to my post yesterday. The pub where I lunched on Thursday, brook2704, is one which DH and I visit regularly when he’s in town so I feel at home there. On this occasion, the majority of the clientele were holidaymakers who were probably curious about this single lady, whose name was known to the staff. I did recommend the plaice that was on special to some sitting nearby so perhaps they thought I was on commission!

After much research and several phone calls, I’m no closer to booking a trip to see DH olddudders in France. Whilst it remains Amber rated by the UK government, my annual travel insurance won’t cover my trip and the difficulty of arranging (plus the cost of) the required testing is a deterrent, too. DH is equally disappointed but he is still awaiting his second vaccination so we shall be apart for a little longer. Thank you all for caring about us; it is heartwarming.

Enjoy whatever the weekend has in store for you! ?☀️?

Good morning Mick, morning all from cool and cloudy South Lanarkshire.

Such a difficult situation for you both Ashcombe.

A busy but enjoyable day in the shop yesterday. Several customers turned out to be visitors from all parts of the UK, mainly catching up with family and friends but two or three were on touring holidays. It’s good to see people enjoying life again.

The hearing aid seems to be working for DH, I don’t want to jinx it though so fingers crossed he doesn’t find it as annoying as the last ones.

I’m hoping for a delivery of yarn today to get on with my crochet but other than that I have no real plans.

Wishing everyone a peaceful day.

Dwmxwg Sat 19-Jun-21 06:37:43

Good morning all, no rain here this morning.
Just off out to work. Will visit the gym on my way home and look forward to reading all the posts this evening.
Hope everyone enjoys their Saturday

cornergran Sat 19-Jun-21 06:38:51

Morning Mick, morning All. Our corner of Somerset has cloud cover as it did all day yesterday.

Grocery shop and catch up accomplished yesterday if later than planned I’m not sure what today will bring. From choice we don’t venture far on summer weekends, traffic often at a standstill. May return a top to a local store, love the top, it just doesn’t love me grin.

Hope there is a smile for us all today.

grandMattie Sat 19-Jun-21 06:39:58

Old morning from a dull, still E Kent. I’ve become so used to the wind/breeze here that I feel slightly suffocated when there isn’t any.
I’m so sorry that you can’t make it to France or ice versa due to CV19, insurance and vaccinations, Ash, it must be so hard. Courage, mon brave!
Short but lovely visit from my (huge) “baby” yesterday. His son, to his great pride, is the tallest of the family. This makes me the shortest adult in the family. I’m 5’10” tall!
Doing nothing again today - might sew, might bake, might..
Have a good day, all you lovely GraMmingos. Catch a passing flamingo, a smile ?... ???☀️??

monk08 Sat 19-Jun-21 06:46:10

Good morning all from the Black country, cloudy start but dry rained most of yesterday.
DS coming this morning bringing the boys, Dil is doing a triathlon. If it brightens up we will go to the park, if not Thomas train set will be all over the floor.
Urms if your reading have a safe journey and enjoy your break.
Thoughts with missing posters ? and may you all find some ?.

Susan56 Sat 19-Jun-21 06:52:21

Good morning from West Wales.

When we arrived yesterday we found out DD had booked us into a rather lovely hotel. We always pack an overnight bag just in case we can’t face the drive back on the same day.We are looking forward to our hotel breakfast and then a walk along the coastal path.

We will spend the afternoon with DH’s parents and drive home tonight.FIL is very weak but in good spirits although his voice is just a whisper.Very emotional especially for DH.

I will send Cherry and Lins another wave before we set off home??

Hope blossoming gets on ok today and that yesterday wasn’t too awful for her.

I hope things are sorted soon Ash so that you and olddudders can be reunited??

Thinking of EV and all our missingfriends, grandmajet,Auntieflo and all unwell and all who are worried.

Have the best day possible everyone??

Good morning from a windy grey Great Yarmouth. Today’s plan is to spend 4 hours on the Broads on a boat. Hopefully it will work out better than yesterday when our boat trip was cancelled at 8am. The weather was torrential rain all day. We wandered into the town when my weather app suggested a lull in the rain but it had that wrong! We couldn’t have been more soaked if a bucket of water had been poured over us. Drying our wet clothes in the little camper was challenging to say the least. Fan heater on but so it didn’t get too hot windows open!
To top the day off the crab sandwich I had bought for my tea had bits of broken shell so it wasn’t nice at all.
A better day is hopefully on the cards.
Thinking of all with far more serious problems.
Take care and stay safe everyone ?

brook2704 Sat 19-Jun-21 07:16:36

Good morning mick and everyone from Cambridge where it’s grey clouds with lightish rain. Yesterday when I arrived here we had such heavy rain - a real downpour. It didn’t dampen my spirits though as I’m so pleased to be here
Sorry to hear your FiL is so weak Susan it must be upsetting to see him like that
The DGS have both got swimming lessons this morning and then we’re going somewhere later but not sure where yet!
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings ?

MawBe Sat 19-Jun-21 07:20:43

Good morning all from N Bucks where it is cool, grey but has stopped raining for the time being.
I didn’t want to preempt Mick but I could have opened up 4 hours ago after what the French call une nuit blanche with all sorts of things troubling me. My SIL will now be nearly 3 hours into his 211 mile bike ride across England “following the sun” - from the Isle of Sheppey to Burnham on Sea . I am such a worry wart, I wish people would tell me about those things after they are back safely
I probably made it back to sleep after he had set off at 4.40 .
If you see a group of men in Lycra anywhere across the South of England, please give them a wave! ??‍♀️ ?‍♂️ ?

Good morning everyone from a windy and overcast start to the day here on the east coast of Fife. Yesterday was such a beautiful warm and sunny day which we enjoyed by going with our friends to our favourite restaurant in the Bonny town of St. Andrews. I wonder what today’s going to bring I think I’ll have a rest day after the excitement of yesterday’s football game. Himself will also be suffering the after effects of that bottle he brought out i heard him from far away on the phone chatting excitedly to family and friends about the game and thought is he never coming to bed. As we are going to meet up tomorrow with our family I think himself will be buying a couple more football tops for our 2 wee gs. They’ll be so chuffed. We always take them a surprise of sorts when we meet up.
Have a good day everyone and hugs to those who are in need of one. Sending you a few of mine. wink

GrannyGravy13 Sat 19-Jun-21 07:40:34

Morning Mick and all

Happy Birthday Urmstongran ????
Safe journey today.

Ashcombe what a problem for you and your DH.

MawBee good luck to your SiL

Well it’s not raining yet? We are off to see DH’s brother who is very poorly, he is getting palliative care at home, my SiL is exhausted and obviously extremely emotional. We will then go to my sisters (about 7 miles away) and stay overnight.

Keep safe and well folks ??‍♀️

Good morning everyone from a dull grey morning here at DD's in East Northants. At least it's not raining. DD was mightily relieved yesterday that she had her riding lesson in the dry, as it had stopped raining in our part of the woods at about 4pm.

Did not do a lot yesterday; a quick tidy round before my weekend away, and finished my third book in ten days.

No plans afoot for today as the weather is too unreliable. Will probably be watching the rugby semi-finals on tv this afternoon. I'll be able to get on with some knitting.

Wishing all a pleasant day.

maydonoz Sat 19-Jun-21 07:51:46

Good morning all from a dull and cloudy Welwyn, Herts, at least it's not pouring rain like all day yesterday, on the upside no watering is needed for the beans that are climbing their way up the canes.
Later this morning, we're expecting a visit from DS1 and DGC before we do a small shop.
On return home we need to change the part in the toilet cistern that causes the flush to work, it will be DH doing the job with my help. Hopefully that will go according g to plan, meanwhile, luckily we've got our downstairs toilet so no problem. Sorry to go on about this topic first thing in the morning!
Weather wise, I hope the day will be a bit drier than yesterday, but I expect there will be some showers.
Wishing you all a pleasant, restful Saturday with as few cares as possible.

harrigran Sat 19-Jun-21 07:54:41

Good morning from a bright and sunny NE.
DD and SIL visited yesterday and brought me some shopping from Aldi, I love their goats cheese.
Sister and BIL will call briefly today, he likes to make sure I am caring for the plants after his hard work.
Had message from DS last night with photo of letter from GD's school, at end of term concert she will be awarded the art prize for junior house. Very proud as she also passed a violin exam this week and sat her grade 3 piano exam. She is year 6 and transferred schools during lockdown which is quite difficult for any child.
Have a good weekend.

Lins1066 Sat 19-Jun-21 07:55:29

Good morning all from a cloudy S Welsh coast, forecast is for some sunshine later.
I know how you feel Maw our son did a charity cycle ride down to Poole with the RNLI boys two years ago , that was 176 miles, your SIL will be fine.

So sorry that you can't get over to France yet Ash.
I'm sorry that your FIL is weak Susan though I'm sure it is doing him a power of good seeing you both. Enjoy your walk along the coastal path and safe journey home ?
Not much planned today except a delivery of fruit and veg and a walk with Sam, who is a year old today.
Have a pleasant day everyone.

Pittcity Sat 19-Jun-21 08:01:48

Good morning from a grey but dry Colchester. I will venture out into the garden to tidy up some plants that were battered by the rain of the last 2 days. Can't do much else until the patio is finished...no idea when as the rain is forecast to return.
Otherwise a quiet weekend here.

Love to all x

glammagran Sat 19-Jun-21 08:02:18

I haven’t posted on this thread for a while though I do read most days.

My family all met up with DD1, DS and DD2, spouses and the 5 GC’s last Saturday in the garden of a lovely pub in beautiful weather for the first time since sometime before the pandemic began. It was magical seeing everyone together. Even the 7 week old latest GS was on good form. Nobody can quite believe his age. He’s already nearly 13lb. He was 8lb 2oz at birth but he lost none of his birth weight. He’s constantly hungry, so DD2 is rapidly disappearing before our eyes! The other GC were so good with the 2 much younger ones. Lots of play equipment was available in the pub garden. We were at the Craven Arms in Enborne. I mention it because I know at least gransnetter lives in West Berkshire.

B9exchange, your gluten free Yorkshire puddings looked marvellous. I have a sister with very severe coeliac disease who is having a lot of further investigations as she is unable to tolerate a huge array of foods now due to the long term damage of her gut lining. She barely weighs 7 stone. We are the same height (5’4”) and I am 11 stone 5lbs. I would love your recipe as this is one food item she can tolerate.

I’m one who does feel uncomfortable with the antagonism that appears on some of the threads and feel Gransnet has changed since I joined in 2017. The same agitators are always present. It would be a great shame to lose any of the regular posters.

Very best wishes to those with anxieties and who feel unwell. Hoping the weather picks up again soon. I’m definitely a sun goddess.

dragonfly46 Sat 19-Jun-21 08:09:49

Good morning from cloudy Leicestershire.

Sorry your reunion is not anytime soon Ashcombe. This virus has a lot to answer to.
I am a worry wart too Maw so know how you feel.
Harrigran what a clever GD you have.

I must plant some bulbs today and try and rescue my various peony plants which have been beaten by the rain.

I hope your brother is improving kitty.

NanKate Sat 19-Jun-21 08:11:49

Good morning Mick and All.

It’s a cloudy day here in Southbourne/Bournemouth. It tipped it down yesterday but I had pre-booked tickets for the Oceanarium, which was excellent. However we were pleased to be wearing our waterproof trousers ?. Off to the lovely Compton Acres Gardens this morning. The shop is good too ? and the Cafe, better take my purse.

Alizarin Sat 19-Jun-21 08:16:16

A sunny good morning from south Cornwall. Was kidnapped by both sons and whisked off to the beach last evening with all the grandkids. Somehow they enabled me to sit on the sand and then got me up again without dislocating my new hip. It was so good for me, all that young company. The picture is my youngest grandson in flight.

Some very sobering stories here today. Life can be very tough. Virtual hugs to all.

I'm off to the town centre market soon to visit the book stall.

LauraNorder Sat 19-Jun-21 08:26:53

Good morning Mick and all from a rather grey Anglesey.
Is it Urms birthday? If so, very happy birthday dear lady ?.
I know how you feel Maw, two of our sons cycled from Leicester to Anglesey, I of course imagined motorways and reckless motorists, when in fact it was apparently cycle paths and wonderful views all the way. While I was worrying myself silly they had stopped overnight in Chester for a massage, a Chinese meal and a good nights sleep.
No word from Grandmajet, if you’re reading please know that we are all rooting for you and hope you come back here soon.
Hope you’re okay Auntieflo and feeling a bit stronger today.
All the best to all with worries and pain even if those pains are just irritating husbands.
Have a good day everyone and remember to be a bit cautious and stay safe. ?

Oldbutstilluseful Sat 19-Jun-21 08:27:12

Wonderful, joyful photo Alizarin. Oh to be young again. Thank you for sharing and I’m so pleased you had a lovely evening with your family.
