What is so special about footballers ?

How is it that only a few footballers in the Scottish and England teams are having to isolate after several have been tested positive for Covid .
Surely both teams plus trainers, and managers , physios etc should have to as well.
One of my Dds was in a work meeting last week. Next day one of the participants tested positive. She and 10 other colleagues are having to isolate for ten days. She has missed meeting up with a friend she hasn’t been able to see for almost 2 years, missed a family celebration and next weekend a long awaited holiday. She also lives on her own so will see nobody.
She knows she is doing the right thing but is spitting feathers about the different rules just because somebody kicks a ball around a field.

Another point but also regarding football. Why for the next England game is a crowd of 60,000 being allowed ? Is there different risk if football is being played ? It’s not just the game but how all those spectators get to the match, absolute madness I think but I am not a football fan. I am however a very sensible person desperate to do some very ordinary activities but am patient. It all makes me very cross.

Footballers don't just kick a ball around a field. It takes skill and talent angry

However, the player was man of the match and I'm sure inside in the changing room his team mates and other Scotland staff would have been hugging him. Doesn't make sense. My daughter's friends child has to self isolate because someone in his year has tested positive - 100 odd children missing birthday parties, cubs, swimming and other activities and that means his mother has to stay in too and will be returning to work in two weeks after furlough and wanted to catch up with friends and family before this. The 8 year old is really upset.

As I said on a post yesterday, footballers are above the law! They ignore all the COVID precautions that we are all encouraged to take, and blatantly hug and spit.

its not only footballers who get away without isolating it seems if your among those who have lots of money or are a so called famous person you can get away with it and just dont care how much they could spread it around

Im hoping against hope the European fans will not come over for this stupid stupid football game. I cannot believe how they are handling this - absolutely outrageous, the whole team should be quarantined and anyone they’ve been playing against in the past week as well.

Parisgranny Wed 23-Jun-21 11:51:08

You are right and I want to know how he became infected if following all precautions ?

grandtanteJE65 Wed 23-Jun-21 11:53:18

If football players are not tested more frequently than everyone else then it does sound wrong.

The Royal Danish Ballet's dancers are tested every week and have been since the first lockdown to enable them to rehearse together, as they obviously cannot stay six feet away from each other all the time.

Perhaps something similar applies to football players?

Juliann Wed 23-Jun-21 12:07:06

I call them the privaledged. Its not right that they have one rule and we have another.

Alioop Wed 23-Jun-21 12:11:20

One rule for some. Footballers are overpaid and entitled usually, but this really takes the biscuit. Joe public would not get away with this and no wonder everyone is fed up with it all. There was more than just a couple in contact with each other unless the dressing room & showers are outside they should of all been isolating. Ridiculous!

I mentioned it before the whole point of the Euros going ahead is so that the data from a big event can be scrutinised so that governments can see if large scale events can now go ahead in the future. Players and staff attached to the teams will be tested and some, may even have had both Covid vaccinations. Each country is looking at this carefully. The Netherlands are not allowing Wales fans to the game for some reason best known to themselves.

bongobil Wed 23-Jun-21 12:11:33

One rule for football one for the rest of us!

Galaxy62 Wed 23-Jun-21 12:12:52

Different rules for the rich and powerful

Maybe it does but other people have jobs that take a lot of talent I suppose if you are ‘famous ‘or earning mega bucks you are not important.

Cossy Wed 23-Jun-21 12:20:46

It’s all madness ! I’m not a particular fan of football but my household is, it’s a job like any other (but much better paid haha) same rules should apply to everyone !

MaggsMcG Wed 23-Jun-21 12:38:45

Nothing is special. Overpaid over acting self important lazy men. With a very few exceptions.

4allweknow Wed 23-Jun-21 12:52:51

Gilmour hugging the manager! Apparently the teams have daily testing but with all the isolating supposedly done how did Gilmour and the English team members catch the virus. Amazing how the general public if one member of a group is positive all others have to isolate too but not the footballers. I don't think much about football and players generally and this certainly hasn't improved my view.

Theoddbird Wed 23-Jun-21 13:01:42

Totally agree....whole team should be in isolation.....

Gymstagran Wed 23-Jun-21 13:14:20

Its so annoying, 3 days to go in my 7 days self isolation and a negative test today. Also as test and trace dont tell you where or when I was in close contact with a positive person for more than 15 minutes I am at a loss to know when it could have been.

Elvis58 Wed 23-Jun-21 13:40:20

Its all bunkum, it seems to be as and when it suits.Apart from Joe public who abides by the rules!

Skill and talent? To kick a bag of wind around a field? gringringrin

Billybob4491 Wed 23-Jun-21 13:49:17

Its a beautiful game Chewbacca

Pammie1 Wed 23-Jun-21 13:51:55

I’m sure it does take skill and talent, but are they really worth the millions they get paid and the extortionate ticket prices which are putting the game beyond the reach of many ordinary people.

Nicks Wed 23-Jun-21 14:10:59

Mount and Chilwell not only hugged Gilmour on the pitch, they spent 20 minutes chatting to him in the tunnel, that is why they have to isolate even though they have tested negative.
None of the rest of the Scotland Team have to isolate because they have different rules to the English FA...best ask Nicola Sturgeon why she is so hypocritical. She has banned Mancunians from Scotland but wasn't bothered about all the Scottish fans travelling to Wembley last week!

Wasting your time Coastal Gran. Everyone’s too busy ranting about a working class sport and their supporters enjoying and celebrating.

We should dig up Oliver Cromwell - he would ensure that everyone led a dutiful and suitably miserable life which supposedly will earn them a place in heaven. I think going down below might be a more interesting option.
