What is so special about footballers ?

How is it that only a few footballers in the Scottish and England teams are having to isolate after several have been tested positive for Covid .
Surely both teams plus trainers, and managers , physios etc should have to as well.
One of my Dds was in a work meeting last week. Next day one of the participants tested positive. She and 10 other colleagues are having to isolate for ten days. She has missed meeting up with a friend she hasn’t been able to see for almost 2 years, missed a family celebration and next weekend a long awaited holiday. She also lives on her own so will see nobody.
She knows she is doing the right thing but is spitting feathers about the different rules just because somebody kicks a ball around a field.

It's all about the money the sponsors are being looked after sod everyone else

*Kamiso. *We should dig up Oliver Cromwell - he would ensure that everyone led a dutiful and suitably miserable life.

If you are referring to Oliver Vromqell cancelling Christmas. You need to check your history knowledge. It was parliament that tried to do that Cromwell and his family led a quiet and frugal life but never said everyone should do the same..

Also, in other circumstances I don’t care which footballer hugged who or what but the same standards should apply to all.

^Footballers don't just kick a ball around a field. It takes skill and talent angry^

Skill and talent? To kick a bag of wind around a field? gringringrin

Obviously takes a lot of skill and talent or we'd all be out there raking in 300 grand a week!

Careers that require skill and talent and earn considerably less than 300 grand a week: nurses, carers, teachers, classroom assistants, paramedics, social workers, prison officers, nursery assistants, hospice personnel, waitresses....

Get a grip!

Totally agree Chewbacca the whole football saga is outrageous! Why should the players and entourages be allowed to get away with it? Money perhaps ?! Us mere mortals have to abide by the rules and although there are those that don’t a greater majority of joe public will now be saying sod it and not self isolate if they have mild symptoms. Goose and gander springs to mind.

Case numbers through the roof in Scotland today. sad

The rise is almost entirely younger people, with 3 times as many young men aged between 15 and 24 as women of the same age testing positive. Prof Reicher suggesting it might be due to them getting together to watch the football.

You think? angry

No shit Sherlock? Who'd have thunk it?

What is so special about footballers?

I was going to say their legs.
And the fact that they dribble well.

sport rules the world - either boring football, boring cricket or boring tennis. Sports people are paid a fortune for doing for what most people would consider to be a hobby. I'm just relieved I'm not married to a sports person as you are obliged to watch them at work - the parter of an electrician or a plumber is not expected to do that

I don't understand the double standard, why shouldn't they have to wait to be fully vaccinated, the same as the rest of us? I guess it's all about money as usual.

either boring football, boring cricket or boring tennis
And on the other channels - boring soap operas or boring repeats.

Chewbacca Wed 23-Jun-21 17:34:31

That's why I dumped my tv Callistemon; endless sport, soaps and "drama" that was always the same. Yawn.

I hate football and think it has been outrageously privileged re: Covid, especially compared with, say, weddings, which might be seen as a more female interest and which remain pretty restricted.

Nevertheless, while the wedding industry is worth millions of pounds a year, the football shenanigans are worth £billions.

Nothing is special about footballers at all!

Jeannie59 Thu 24-Jun-21 07:50:34

This is one of the reasons I do not like football
Everything else stops, but not good old FOOTIE
Footbore to me

Speldnan Thu 24-Jun-21 18:15:50

Everything about football annoys me anyway but since Covid it makes me furious. The hugging which they weren’t supposed to be doing anyway. The fans who cluster in their thousands and who have caused a Covid surge amongst males. The exceptions allowed them with travel and testing.
I hate the way it dominates the TV, sport should be on a separate channel so others can still have their usual programs.

These days, absolutely nothing, excepts that they are cash cows for 'would-be WAGS'.

Lovetopaint037 Tue 06-Jul-21 10:36:35

When I hear this I always associate the decision with money. Football is big bucks and footballers treated like super humans.

Those at Wembley or Wimbledon are double vaccinated or have evidence of test result in last 24 hours. The footballers themselves are tested several times a week.
