Hello Everyone! ?

As a companion thread to nanna8's 'irrational dislikes on sight'.

Who, in the public eye, do you think comes across as rather a good egg?

Extra points if the celeb in question is usually found in the other camp
(is there anyone out there who actually likes Schofield or Holden??)

For me, it's Rylan Clarke-Neal.
I think that he is a TV natural, and he seems really warm and friendly.
I'd really like to be his mate.

So, which Celebs do you have a soft spot for, and why?

Thank you!

Clevedon

Another vote here for Lisa Tarbuck. She's so funny and natural. I'd love to see or hear more from her

Yes, it's weird that we don't.
I wonder if she has opted to have a laid back kind of life? I certainly wouldn't blame her

Jeremy Clarkson, David Mitchell, Rob Brydon , Lee Mack, All members of the Repair Shop, Mary Beard, Simon Reeve, Michael McIntyre, Sandy Toksvig, Graham Norton, ...... and probably many more. Don’t know why I don’t like Amanda Holden.....

Ooh, Rylan, with his dyed hair and apparently/allegedly off-screen tantrums? Eek! For me, an intellectual crush on Richard Adoade. Brilliant presenter, naturally funny, has zoomed since The IT Crowd. And of course Greg Davies... who wouldn't? smile Also, controversially, Piers Morgan. And the lovely personable Susannah Reid, who showed photos of her sans makeup and looks as fabulous as she is.

I like Adam Henson, but cannot abide Amanda Holden, also I like Carol Kirkwood always has a lovely smile.

Keanu Reeves, since I've read more about him, though I don't think he's a particularly good actor.

Fanny How insensitive of her. I know nothing about Clare Balding but maybe she was well looked after as a child, maybe the jockey wasn't so lucky or his teeth were ruined by disease. I was bullied relentlessly at school due to rotten teeth because of parental neglect. This jockey died in his 30s after taking a cocktail of drugs so he was obviously a troubled soul. People should think before they speak. Don't assume everyone's life experiences are the same as yours. Sorry rant over!

I like Dick and Angel Strawbridge, and I love Amanda and Clive from Our Yorkshire Farm. I also love Sarah Moore from Money for Nothing.

She was just pointing out that a lot of jockeys lose their teeth because of the nature of their job and didn’t realise they were his actually teeth: she assumed he just had lots of teeth missing. She really was mortified when she realised the mistake she’d made. He really wasn’t upset by it. His suicide was nothing to do with his appearance. He’d suffered a bad head injury that had affected his career and his relationships. Also social media abuse from disgruntled punters over the years wouldn’t have helped. He was the loveliest person imaginable but Clares comment would have not contributed to what happened to him.

JaneJudge Sun 27-Jun-21 11:51:03

Is it usual for jockeys to commit suicide as there seems to be quite a few that do? or develop addictions that lead to death? or maybe I have just read very depressing stories regarding jockeys! sad

GreyKnitter Sun 27-Jun-21 11:56:38

I like Phil and Holly. Also like Adam Frost, Ryan Clarke Neal, David Tennant and Alexander Armstrong. Also like Fern Britton, and Jenny Eclair. Oh and Revd Richard Coles and Judge Rinder.

Bill Bryson. I wrote a letter to him to tell him that the 99 year old blind war veteran I was reading his book "Notes from a small Island" to had laughed for the first time in ages. Mr Bryson wrote a lovely letter back saying how happy he was to hear that.

Alan Alda. I saw him in a play on Broadway once and although I was disappointed that he never gives autographs after performances, I admire the way he has worked so hard to improve communication between scientists/ medical folk and the general public.

Kate1949 Sun 27-Jun-21 12:05:15

MayBee No I'm not suggesting Clare's comment contributed to his death. He was obviously very troubled as you say. The coroner recorded misadventure, not suicide I believe.

With jockeys it seems to result from head injuries (eg Walter Swinburne) but with trainers it’s probably financial problems. And, as I mentioned, they do get a lot of abuse on social media. There’s a lot of fundraising going on in Liams name for a head injury charity. Also, as with other sports, someone needs to be ready mentally to leave their chosen sport: when it’s thrust upon them suddenly they find it difficult to cope with. Richard Dunwoody coped with it by doing lots of expeditions and charity work.

Don't think anyone's mentioned David Tennant. Adorable!
Agree Michael Sheen, Michael Ball, Ben Shephard.
Steven Mulhern
Brad Pitt

Mollygo Sun 27-Jun-21 12:55:25

Notright, I haven’t really seen much of PM since he was a judge on BGT. I did read his book Wake Up, which made some really good points, so I suppose that might count as ‘liking’.

Jenn53 Sun 27-Jun-21 12:58:31

I agree with Fanny!
